Yeah, I read about this last night and I was getting ready to post it in my movie thread but I had to logoff and never got around to it.
At least, according to this report, the writers I like are still attached but Cohen apparently does have the job as director. So right now for me it's 50/50....... I mean every director has to have at least ONE good film in them. Maybe this will be Cohen's!

I didn't like the idea of making the son as a major character. Do they think Brenden Frasier and Rachel Weiss can't carry the movie? I was also disappointed at the idea of a new mummy. If they're going to stick to the previous storyline, why not bring back Arnold Vosloo for a final showdown? The could call it The Mummy's Revenge or something like that. I guess I'd never cut it as a Hollywood executive I just can't understand their decisions.

Yeah, I see your point, but......
They've introduced the kid so now were stuck with him. At least he'll be an "adult" in this one so we won't have any of the "cute kid" nonsense going on.
By the way.....they say he's going to be an adult but that could mean anything. At 18 people are considered adults.
It would have been nice to see Arnold Vosloo show up again but they pretty much got rid of him for good in the last film. I kind of like the idea of a new villain.

I like the initial rumor that it was going to be a prequel but I guess that was just hot air.

If it has a asian theme then why is it called the MuMMy?

IndyFan, Mummification existed in other cultures. The Egyptian culture is just the most well known for using it. So just because the third Mummy film has an Asian theme doesn't mean they can't have mummies in it.

I saw that the on the news the other night. I wonder if they plan on killing her character off? Ah, I just hope they get someone else as nice to look at as her. If they do I'm happy. I'm not as "invested" in this franchise as some of the others....like Indy.

Well I am! ;D
No Rachel Weisz, and Jet Li as a mummy villain? I think I'm going to skip this one.

I met Rachel Weisz before she became famous. She was a doll. My friend did a portrait of her if I'm not mistaken. I do remember him telling me, "Dude, she's going to be a star.", and he was right. Tenyon, why don't you see about taking her place. I'd go see anything you were in. Yum.

Well, she's already got the action look down so maybe there will be some open auditions in her area for the film. Maybe Tenyon could get a role as a love interest for Rick's son who's about her age in the new film.

Jet Li is one of my heroes, I'd love to see him in a big-time picture; though I'm not sure how Wushu would fit in with ancient Egypt.
But it might just be a rumor, because I think he's still working on "Rogue" with Jason Statham right now.

I like Jason Statham, so any new movie with him fighting is one I'll look forward to! How many people here have seen him as Frank Martin in "The Transporter" movies? Cool stuff. Ken

Lmao, I would not dare to take the place of the gorgeous lady Weisz, not to speak of her amazing acting skills, but cutting Eve from the Mummy is like cutting Princess Leia from the Star Wars movies in my opinion (I'm sorry but I just love Brendan and Rachel together, they form a perfect team). And yes, Jet Li is fab, but his strength lies more in the fighting scenes than in the acting bits, and personally, I like a mummy with a little more depth (yes yes, funny joke opportunity).

F rom Kt's link in the casting for hulk thread I saw theyre still looking for a Alex , ! theyre looking for a sporty 21-22 year old so its gonna be 12 years after mummy returns at least. I don't know what to think of it. Lets see where this will go. Iam very curious.

The only thing I have any confidence in is the writers they've hired for the the film. Other then that I'd say the movie is doomed.
Tenyon is right. Weisz and Frasier had great chemistry and along with the guy that played the brother are what really made the films the hit they were.
If the film is coming out in July of 08 and Indy comes out in May of 08 and deals with the same "theme" which is basically father and son off on adventure then that could be another "nail in the coffin" for the Mummy 3.

I'm agree as well that Rachel brought a nice balance to the Mummy movies. Her presence and chemistry with Brendan were key in making the first two movies work. I'm also not sure how a Mummy movie will play out, when it's not set in Egypt. We shall see what they have planned... but, I'm not as excited about seeing it now. Ken

I just saw on IMDB that it will take place in China and the Mummy will be the first emperor of Qin, played by Jet Li.
It's kind of funny, because a while back Li played an assassin plotting against the emperor of Qin in Hero. And he's also played a student of Huo Yuanjia prior to playing Yuanjia himself. I think the man is running low on ideas. ;D
