For a split second after I read the title of this thread, all I could think of was ROB SCHNEIDER...you know, of "Duece Bigalow" fame... and my gut reaction to that was "wow, that kinda stinks, I guess". But ROY SCHEIDER, well, that's obviously different. It's a real shame, I loved JAWS and his role in it. It's definitely one of my favorites...great movie and he did a great job in the part. How old was he, anyway (the link isn't working for me at the moment)? He didn't seem that old... -GCR

Wow, that would be a horrible mix up wouldn't it? ;D I'd imagine he'd have a few fans that would be upset if he passed away. ;D Roy was 75 and I guess he'd been battling cancer.

Ah, yeah...cancer, that'll do it. Lost both of my Paternal Grandparents to cancer. Boy, that is a real shame, especially since 75 isn't really all that old these days...

That is sad news. He was always an under rated actor. He had a real understated Bogart type quality about him. My favorite film of his was Sorcerer in which he and a group of men on the run agree to transport two truck loads of nitro leaking dynamite through a South American jungle. There's an awesome rope bridge scene and he even wears a fedora in the film. Get it from Netflix sometime. I guess he'll always be remembered for his "need a bigger boat" line.

Along with the "Jaws" movies for which he is so famous, I enjoyed Roy in "Blue Thunder" as well. He will be missed...

That's too bad about Scheider. I also loved him in Jaws...but my favorite of his roles was Popeye Doyle's sidekick in The French Connection.

I'll have to check it out sometime. Thanks for the tip, Havana!

I had never heard of that film before but it seems to be a pretty popular film of his because it's been mentioned in just about every obit I've read. I'll have to check it out too...

Sorcerer was a big budget remake of a 1950's classic called The Wages of Fear. Unfortunately, it tanked at the box office probably due in part to the confusing title. Watch it and see if you can figure out where the title comes from. Nobody I know has a clue. Despite that, it is pretty good and very intense if you get into it. It was directed by William Friedkin.

Well, when I hear the word "Sorcerer" I think of someone that messes with potions and chemicals.....
After reading a little about the movie and how his character has to deliver this highly explosive material I just assumed that they got the odd title from thinking along the same lines as I did.
