Does anyone know what this movie CLOVERFIELD is about?
The few previews I have seen look interesting.

It's a cross between the "Blair Witch Project" and "Godzilla". Basically this creature attacks New York around New Year's Eve and you follow this group of friends as they try to escape the city. You spend most of the film viewing everything threw a video camera similar to the way they did the Blair Witch movie. So everything is kinda realistic and shaky. Some of the scenes look a lot like footage taken during 9/11. I think the filmmakers want to make it seem as realistic and terrifying as that was.... I've seen sketches of the monster and the things that come off of it. I haven't seen what someone call the "3rd stage" of the monster. Supposedly there is something else that happens after it attacks and starts dropping these things off of it. It looks interesting and I plan on going to see it when it comes out.

Hey Guys, I just got back from seeing Cloverfield. Its a pretty cool movie but I didn't think it was great. It is a good monster movie but there really isn't much of a story. It did give me a little motion sickness watching it, the whole movie is made to look like it was filmed with a home video camera. It certainly has allot of scary scenes. And all I'll say is the monster is humongous.. It tears up everything. I would rate this movie about 7 out of 10. I felt like if it had just a little something else it would of been great. But I think its certainly worth seeing in theaters, don't wait for video. Go see it... Sincerely, Prof.wex

Yeah, I saw it tonight.......I pretty much agree with everything Wex said.......I still couldn't shake the "Blair Witch meets Godzilla" feel of it though........I honestly really didn't care about any of the characters.....Maybe Hud....I...dunno....it just didn't really set any of them up that well.. I was sitting on the edge of my seat for most of the film.... It never really explains what the creature is or where it came from. It's certainly the nastiest "Giant Monster" I've ever seen on film and the little things falling off of it where freaky.....So kudo's to the filmakers for coming up with something that would kick both King Kong's a$$ and Godzilla's a$$ at the same time... I think the thing that really impressed me about the film is how realistic everything was done. If this just randomly showed up on the net without warning people would sware it was real footage.....They captured the feel of 9/11 perfectly....... Of course.....I thought the ending sucked. I knew it was going to end that way...... I have to agree you need to see this on the big screen at least once to really appreciate the effects and the "feel" of it. It's 80 minutes long so you don't have to sit threw much exposition about the characters you really won't care much about anyway before all H*ll breaks loose.

I'll give a more in depth review when I have time to write one out. Probably tomorrow.
But I'll say this: It was probably the best monster movie ever made, simply because the story isn't about the monster. It's about everything going on because of the monster. It was a brilliant character study that could have been just as good had it not involved a "thing." I mean, honestly, if this had been about 9/11 or the Holocaust instead of a creature it probably would be up for some Oscars...not that the acting was all that phenomenal, but for some reason character pieces like this tend to get attention. Especially ones that involve a pressing love story, as this one did. Now you can disagree with me all you want, but go back and wacth it again (if your eyes and stomach can take it) and in your head, replace the monster with terrorists and tell me it isn't the exact same film.

I made up my mind for sure. I won't see this movie. I never understood why anyone would see a movie about 9/11. I can't see myself sitting in the movie house eating my popcorn and watching it like all it's just a movie. When it happened just a little while ago. ......and if you can replace the monster with terrorists and it's the same movie? aaah talk about creapy. 9/11 should not be thought as a movie. aah Thanks for saving me some money and time.

its weird... i loved the movie and i hated it... i loved the fear and realism it created being filmed through a video camera... and the fact that these people did not all of a sudden become heroes like day after tomorrow and i am legend... these were real people lost in a nightmare reality and i feel like it caught that perfectly... i think that this movie will be much better if they made a sequel in the perspective of the military... to explain everything....

I'll probaby have to side with Oak on this one. I'm always up for a good monster flick but anything that reminds me of real life 9/11 style terror doesn't sound like entertainment to me. I just find the parallels too disturbing. Setting such a story in New York, just seems to be in bad taste.

There was something AFTER the credits in the film? I didn't stick around.......I actually heard a few people complaining about the film after it ended......One guy was sitting there looking shell shocked mumbling that it was the dumbest film he'd ever seen...... Which I disagreed. I thought it was good.....just not great.

Yes, at the end of the film...when we are back at Coney Island, there is a scene where the camera looks out over the ocean and something (supposedly a satellite) falls into the water. And after the credits, staticy voices say:
"Help us...It's still alive." So, sequal probably on the way.
Also, those of you that saw it, I was completely blown away by the music during the credits. It is a composed piece called "Roar (Cloverfield Overture)." That friggin' rocked my socks!! It was damn epic.

I spent many months trying to find a CD with the "Roar" overture by Micheal Giacchino, i have been listening to MG constantly for the last ten years and that was one of his greatest pieces of music in his career
plus on the DVD there are tons and tons of hidden easter eggs, including a "prequel" news footage of an attack on an oil rig,set hours before the new york arrival, some details about a protestor going to that oil rig to protest about secret experiments with cryptic messages to his girlfriend, made to look like a "youtube blog"
its all very sinister stuff, the way he tells his girlfriend "...they FOUND something.... or they BUILT something..." implying that a secret government organisation was behind the whole thing
its gotta be the best monster movie ever, because the producers/writers said that things you cant see are more scary, and you only catch brief glimpses of the monster during the whole film, a foot here, part of a leg there, an extreme closeup of it leaping onto helicopters and stomping on military tanks...
