Hey everybody,
the new batch of rawbodies is ready to be shipped and should arrive within a few days. I can't wait to see these new bodies, as they'll be even better than what I got so far (it'll cost me too, but more of that later).
First of all, I gave my felter new tolerances on the thickness, that - after he had recovered from the first shock - got him to call me a rather special customer (politely said ). I'll take it as a compliment, even though it CERTAINLY wasn't ment that way. But I know now, that I'm pickier than other of his customers and it is a gain for MY customer IMHO.
I also got him to put up to 20% more fur in each rawbody - without increasement of the thickness. So these new bodies will be denser than anything I've handled before
Being a paranoid when it comes to taper, I inquired about a water repellent that my felter would recommend for their felt... Now, here comes the BIG deal: he offered to water proof the felt AS IT'S BEING MADE!!! I have NO idea how that should work, but my felter assured me to have gained great results with this treatment in the past, so I bite the bullet and paid the extra requested.
All in all these improvements, will add 20% extra costs per rawbody, which I'll pay from my own pocket. I really can't wait to see these rawbodies and hopefully they'll be everything I hope they are (but than again, I was more than happy with what I got already, so why shouldn't they).
Now here comes the bad news: the German state has decided to raise the value added tax from 16 to 19% from the 1st. of January 2007 (mind you, these aren't the only taxes I'm paying, but this is what goes off each hat immediately). With the higher priced rawbodies and the other factors Steve mentioned in his thread already, I - unfortunately - am forced to forward these extra taxes (and ONLY the taxes) to the customers. It ain't much, but then again I think it's too much nontheless.
So, for the hats ordered after the 1st. of January 2007 I will be forced to charge 308€ plus shipping I'm not making a dime more on the hats by raising the price and hope that the commitment I put into my hats by the improvements mentioned above will add an extra value worth more than 8€ for those who has decided to go with an AB Dlx.
Regards,
Marc
