Take a look..... Superman's fabled Fortress of Solitude has been depicted in films as a vast complex comprised of enormous crystal beams. Fans know that it built itself from a single crystal in the far north.
Imagine the surprise of miners when they actually found it! Not in the frozen north, but buried a thousand feet below Mexico's Naica mountain in the Chihuahuan desert.
This has been quite a year for Superman fans; the deadly remnants of planet Krypton were discovered in a mine in Serbia this past April (see Kryptonite Discovered By Scientist).
Actually, of course, the Cueva de los Cristales is a purely natural formation consisting of enormous beams of gypsum. Some of the crystals are as long as 36 feet (see photo).
Geologist Juan Manuel Garcia-Ruiz has described the probable origin of the crystals in the journal Geology. The cave was drained by mining operations; for millennia, however, the crystals grew in mineral rich, 136 degree Fahrenheit water.(Cueva de los Cristales)

It would be a really cool find, but..... that picture looks photoshopped to me. Anyone else getting a fishy vibe from this one, or do I just need to clean my eyes? Ken

Yeah, I'd say this one definitely looks a little suspect. I mean, I'm no expert at PS (not by a long shot) but there's something that seems a little "off" to me in this picture...
Hey PH - Where the hell do you find this stuff, anyway? ;D

;D ;D Guys, there are still some natural wonders left in this world and not everything is a PS pic. I know....after doing my own stuff I tend to question everything I see now as well. This however is real and a place I believe you could visit. Here's a link..... www.naica.com.mx/ingles/index.htm

I remember when the story broke to the AP. I seem to remember watching a video on it. I think it's legit.

Well, yeah......there's no way they faked all of those pics and made up this whole thing. I think it's pretty cool and I don't see why someone would be suspicious over something like this. It's not the first time I've seen amazing shots like this from things formed in caves deep underground either.

I don't question the existance of natural wonders at all, as I look forward to opportunity to visit such places one day. The photo in this case, looks out of perspective. It really looks like a PS job to me, even if the place is real. Just be sure to look for a control panel of sorts, if you ever go there. It plays these really cool holographic projections of Superman's dad, and contains a little history of the universe... as an added bonus. Ken

Yeah, I think the column on the left is the one that brings up old footage of Marlon Brando......oddly enough....it's from The Godfather though.
