Yeah, Patterson started this on COW just when I was gathering information about all 3 movies and trying to get more information about the Fonzie jacket (from the Smithsonian). If anyone knows anything about the various aspects of these leather jackets, please help us out. I know that the X-1 jacket is a Vanson and the X-2 jacket was a Bates (I have confirmation from Dawn at Bates Custom Leather) but I have no idea about the X-3 jacket, which of course is my favorite. Here is the best shot you will ever see of this jacket: If you have any input, please help! You can either post here or you can join here. Or both ;D 5150barandgrill.com/forum/profile.php?mode=register&ruid=2Either way, your input is extremely appreciated!!! (Again, if this violates any board rules or the personal beliefs of the mods and admin here, please delete this post.)

Well, I don't have any info on the jacket but I just wanted to say you don't have to worry about this violating any board rules or personal beliefs here. Pretty much "Anything Goes". That being said I would have to agree with you that I liked this jacket the most out of all three of the movies. I've heard their making a movie just based around him so who know's what jacket he'll be wearing in that one.

I don't think the x3 jacket has the articulation that is being referred to. My friend had the 1st of the prototypes made at Wested, it has the stripe going all the way round the arm, does not have the kidney detail on the back and does not have the shoulder detail (the thin V over the shoulders). But the arms are curved and it looks cool. This is a size 52! So it's going to look a bit baggy looking there's an awful lot of leather there! On a later visit I saw a revised version on his bench, this now has the 'kidney' panel (albiet narrower than the screen version), the stripes now go half way round the arm. (I'd perhaps move them slightly higher up the arms too. He still hasn't done the shoulder detail (this could be achieved with just stitching and you will have to get him to cut it tight (and short) for the right fit. All that sounds a bit negative... but it actually looks pretty good. I'd be tempted to get it made in horsehide and distress it myself.

I hate to divert you to another forum but some of the guys on the forum listed below have been working on the Wolverine jackets for a long time, much like the Indy fans have. They've been dealing with Wested and others trying to get some accurate replicas made with mixed success. It's my understanding also that X1 jacket is Vanson's, the X2 is a Bates, and the X3 was privately produced by some Canadian costume shop which has never really been identified. It seems that X men fans are about evenly split between the X1 and X3 jacket when it comes to choosing their favorite. The Bates from X2 is a distant 3rd. I believe it has also been estabished that the Cyclops jacket from X3 was a Bates. The X1 is easily my favorite. www.superherohype.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=08ee705118ced04adff14ebaf6c3f08f&f=97

That is one exactly one of the sites I was referring to. I did notice Wested's attempts at the jacket, which is all well and good. I am just trying to track down the original manufacturer. Even looking at the Bates jacket one would think that it is a poor knock-off and they made the original. There is just something tacky-looking about a bright shiny colorful jacket. Yet distressed, it looks awesome. It is the same with the WOW jacket and the House, MD jacket. Thanks guys.
KT Templar, I saw the Wested vs. Vanson comparison and the back panel is quite different. Thank you for the input.

That Bates jacket in X2 didn't even look good in the movie. It was too shiny and looked ill fitting on Hugh, in my opinion. Hugh was super buff in that film but looked wimpy with that jacket on. The drape was terrible. It looked very thin, more like a fashion jacket than a real motorcycle jacket. The X3 was a definite improvement over the X2 version. Louise Mingenbach was the costume designer for the first two films. She's known for often altering ready made items rather than doing 100% fully custom wardrobe like most costume designers. Much of the clothing that she provided for Starsky and Hutch was purchased off Ebay and then sometimes copied where mulitples were required.

Judianna Makovsky was designer for the third film. She worked on the Harry Potter movies and National Treasure as well as the NT sequel (Nic Cage, again!). Do you know anything about her?

I don't know much about her but I believe that her background, prior to Harry Potter, was in costuming contemporary dramas and comedies. I think she's been in the business since the 80's.
