Just watched this. www.apple.com/trailers/fox/fantasticfourriseofthesilversurfer/I thought the first film was pretty good but I thought they could have done some things better. This new one looks pretty fricking cool from the teaser and looks like it might be better than the first one. It looks like they've nailed the look of the Silver Surfer from the comics.......Anyone who's read the FF books knows Galactus can't be far behind.

No Oxygen in space...looks good. I am surprised they are making a sequel considering how lousy the first one was. *Can't believe I mispelled "lousy" - "lowsy", what the *&%# was I thinking ;D

The first film got bashed quite a bit by most of the "fanboys" that frequent these sites, especially AICN. I never understood it personally. I think they only two things I really found fault with was they could have used a cgi Thing and they missed the mark with Dr. Doom. It was almost like they copied they whole Norman Osborn plot from Spider-Man 1 and used it with Doom. Other than that I enjoyed it and my kids enjoyed it when they watched it.
Believe it or not the film did make a lot of money and I think they wanted another shot at making an even better movie.
I've never been a big FF fan anyway. The two comic book heroes I liked the most were Spidey and Batman.
I'd say the first FF film lands somewhere in the middle as far as comic book films go.

I think it has potential, but I always thought that the FF should stay in comics. I don't think they transfer over to film well, at all. The Thing and the Human Torch are great characters, but Mr Fantastic and Invisible Girl,......They suck! Seriously, if anything can be more unbelievable in a superhero, it's stretching power. LAME! Invisible girl,....now that's great for film ,...a hot chick like Jessica Alba,....that you CAN'T see, lol. Anyway, I hope this one is better than the first. 'Blues

You're right about Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Girl / Woman....the characters have always been kind of "bland" for my own personal taste. Of course you can't blame that on the actors because it's the way the characters are written.
Reed could be written more like an "Indiana Jones" type character....brainy prof. or scientist who has an adventurous side that gets him into trouble.
I think the films prove that the FF can be translated to the silver screen but they need to be handled by a more "seasoned" director. Someone who has had years of experience doing Sci-Fi / Adventure stuff. Raimi has done a fantastic job with Spidey as far as I'm concerned. It's a matter of finding the right director to match up with the characters.
From what I've read Marvel is trying to buy back the rights to alot of their film characters so they can make movies themselves and have more control of how they are portrayed on film.
If they'd switch Invisible Girl's power to just being able to make her clothes disappear then I'm sure it would be a huge B.O hit! ;D

We could also say that Cyclops and Storm made for bland characters and could have ruined the X-Men franchise. The problem I see with superhero films is just a plain lack of thought on the writers' and directors' parts. They could compensate for bland characters by hiring good actors, and any power can look good with the right special effects, but they refuse to listen to the masses and do it right just the same.
