I made myself this one, as I liked what I saw when I made Michaelson one of these. Instead of using pure beaver dress felt, I had a 50/50 beaver/hare blend, thick western body on hand, and since the original hat was thick, I felt this was the way to go. Crown height on sides is 5 inches, brim width is 3 by 2 5/8. I used a number 2 block to get these results. Yeah, I know this is not an Indy fedora, but Fedora did give young Indy one of these, so I guess that qualifies it. regards, Fedora

That's a cool looking hat regardless of it being Indy related or not. I think you may end up with a whole line of hats if you keep this up Fedora. I'm sure people will be wanting to order this next!

Not to get this sidetracked but it probably will......Why is this called the "Abner Fedora"? In LC it gave no hint that the guy (Fedora) was ever Abner at all......Where are people getting that it could possibly be him from?

My understanding is that in every draft of the script except the final the character was named Abner. However, in the final script his name was just Fedora. Steve that is a great looking hat!

I took their change of the character's name to Fedora, to simply mean they had chosen not to tell the story of Abner Ravenwood. I don't think they wanted to be pinned down too much with that reference, and instead left it open for future development. By just calling him Fedora, they removed any ties to it being Abner IMO.... which is much better. The Fedora guy in LC, guy never struck me as the sort of fellow Indy would study with, or even be a professor at all. I always pictured Abner as being more studious than adventurous anyway. Of course, this is just my take on it...and I didn't mean to derail the thread any farther with it. Ken

If there was a Greek God that made hats his name would have been Steve!

Another option that I think Michaelson and Indiana Ken like, is that "Fedora" might be "Forestal".

Yeah, but I always assumed Forestal and Indy were the same age for some reason. Fedora and Indy were not. I also kind of figured he was some kind of professor as well. Like Indy was in competition with him both at work and out in the field.
I've always just thought the "Fedora" guy was some rogue Indy modeled himself after in appearance and I never tried to look much deeper into it.
If that story is true that the character's original name was Abner then I think it was changed for that exact reason. I think Spielberg and Lucas figured this guy was to much of a thief to be Abner.

Thanks guys, you are too kind. The truth of the matter is after working on the Raider's fedora for so many years, any other hat is a piece of cake compared to my all time favorite hat-the Raider's fedora. The Raiders fedora is the hardest to pull off, of any hat I have made. Marc and I worked on the block shape for a long time. We tried so many different block shapes, and that in and of itself was a great learning curve. I think we are both to the point that we can look at a particular hat and envision what block shape we need to pull off a particular look. Thanks again, it means alot to me. Regards, Fedora

That hat is freakin' awesome Steve! That's the first time in 15 years I even CONSIDER wearing something else than the Raiders Fedora. Regards, Marc
