I dropped in on Indy Breineder today and he was shocked at the colour of my AB. We put both our hats together and he's right - mine has faded incredibly. Especially since swimming in the sea, it's really bleached out. The top pinch is almost tan!!
Looks like you don't need to spray bleach on your hat afterall!! I'll try and take some comparison pics later in the week.

So the salt water somehow caused the hat to fade even more? I didn't know that would do that to an AB.

I'm sure that with the righ techniques a good hatter could bring the original color back to life again Regards, Marc

OK, these are indoor shots and not natural sunlight so the colours are a bit off - however you can see the contrast between the two hats. The darker hat is Indy Breineder's AB, which although freshly reblocked, is actually a slightly older hat. The other is my year old AB that has been worn daily in rain sun snow and salt water - with no reblock to date. Originally it was the same colour as Indy Breineder's, in fact under the sweatband it still is. Of course, in sunlight my hat is actually a nice brown - not grey!

That is quite a difference. Still it's a Magnificent Fedora any way you look at it. Just a little more SOC appearance. Cheers, G-MANN

Looks good Pagey. Now, if you guys will remember, a couple of years ago I mentioned that I was going with a little darker color than what I thought the orginal hat was. The reason is due to the fading issue. I figured by the time you guys wore the hat in the elements, it would fade to a better, more accurate color. If the hat had started off a lighter brown, it might very well fade into a blond colored hat. The good thing is, the fading is only skin deep. To get the original color back only requires a moderate pouncing. Fedora

Wow.... Pagey I think your hat looks better now. Since it's been out in the elements it's distressed to look more like the SOC look. Like I've said before the more these hats get beat up the better the end up looking.

:)I was so amased when pagey came back from his hollidays when I first realized the change of his hat. Actually, I was thinking that his hat looks just like taken out of the TV and put onto is head AND that I have to wear my hat even more often

Good show Pagey! So... how does it wear... now that you had to stuff the sweatband, pull the ribbon tighter, sew the side of the front pinch together and wait for three months, so the telescope creases would settle? - I bet there's a wire in that brim too ;D Regards, Marc

Ummmm.....WHY would you go swimming with that or any hat like that anyways?
All I know is that when I went swimming in the ocean, my clothes stank very badly afterwards and I felt like someone rubbed a nasty solution all over my body due to the salt. I have to think that hat must be throwing off some nasty smells about now unless you really, really thoroughly soaked it and washed it off when you were done. On another note, the hat still looks great!

Plus, it's a great way to get those much sought after Cairo salt stains on the hat too. Ken
