This is an antique Austrian M/1861 officers sabre - shortened (shortly after it's manufacture) in order to be carried as a (sea-)cadet's sabre or as an officer in training's sabre. The Austrian M/1861 officer's sabre is quite common - but original shortened examples are quite rare (I have examined it quite throughly; the shortening og the blade is - as far as I can tell - not a modern conversion). This paticular example is made by Weyersberg and Stamm in Solingen - one of the bigger suppliers of military bladed weapons back in the mid. 19'th c. The stamping on the blade is still wery clear. I found it at an online auction house - and because no one bidded against me i got it for D.Kr. 760 (about $ 135). That is an inredible price! The blade is nicely patinated and there are remains on the original gilding on the rings on the handle - the handle is cracked (that is almost unavoidable) but the original wire wrapping on the handle is still in place. But, what I like most about this sabre is the that I instantly gets an urge to yell "Yarr - avast ye!" and start swashbuckling every time I pick it up. I really need to make myself a pirate costume soon Regards. Jakob

That is a real beauty you got there, and it looks so good. The corrosion and the used look always makes me love such swords more than all shiny new ones. A big Yarr! to you JEEP!

Thanks Stefana; PM me if you want some tips about aging your cutlass to make it look like it's an antique. Regards. Jakob

Wow, I just saw that sword. It looks great. I'd love to get something like that and display it on my wall. Very cool, Jeep

hey swords!!! me likey swords!!! i have an extensive sword collection myself.
last summer i got myself an Indian Cavalry style dress sabre, that goes perfectly with my Temple of Doom outfit as it's the right kind of shape.
I am currently photographing and cataloging all my props and weapons in my collection, some replicas, some originals, some to my own design custom made, but nowhere to hang them all yet... got to finish decorating before i decide where they're gonna go
