I've recently made myself a BA and MA in Photoshop from the fictional college in H.P. Lovecraft's stories, Miskatonic University.
Has anyone attempted to make Indy's degrees from his colleges? I know that he got his BA from the University of Chicago (and is Masters, too, I think), but I don't know where he got his PhD. from.
Also, would anyone be interested in having these in your collection if I can get them to come out?

That sounds kinda cool and I don't know of anyone off the top of my head that has tried to make them..... Hey, I'd settle for a fake regular diploma.....Make me a doctor! ;D All kidding aside I'd like to see what you can come up with.

Of course ! That is one of the things I could't find in all the inserts and other Indy stuff to print.

Well, I'd like to start with his Bachelor's Degree from U of Chi-town, since I'm 100% positive he graduated from there. But I need some help with my facts. -Did he get is Bachelor's in Archeology or Literature? Because I thought that he didn't turn to Archeology until his Master's. - Where did he get his Master's and PhD. from? I think he got his PhD. from the U of Paris, but I can't seem to find anythin on it. There have been users over at The Raider and Club Jedi Master Kenobi that have done them, but the images are dead links so there's no help there. Obviously I'd like these to be as authentic as possible; I want to get the names of the different University Presidents at the times Indy would have been there as well as some of the staff. It is pretty easy getting the offical seals of the colleges from Google, so that's not a problem and I've got a ton of fonts. Here are my homemade Diplomas from the fictional Miskatoic University, but resized to fit: And here is my Student ID: So do you think we could make this a group project? I've already put in a lot of R&D.

Unfortunely I can't tell you much to help, but if it works out, I'd love to get one.

Any body on this board fluent in French? If I'm going to do Indy's Master's and Doctorate, it needs to be in French since it is established that he went to the University of Paris (or the Sorbonne). I tried using an internet translator, but it just translated every word, not the sentences.

Here is the prototype, resized, obviously. I used the text from a real Diploma from the U of Chicago (but from 2003) and just changed the fonts and positions of things. I am waiting to get the actual names of the University President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1923, just to make it accurate; I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have to make up the name of the Department Chair. Input would be appreciated.

It's coming along great. I believe that "Indiana Jones and the Peril at Delphi" states that Indy graduated from the University of Chicago on May 23, 1922. I'll have to verify it this evening.

Oh, good. I just finished reading Dance of the Giants not even twenty minutes ago which is one book after Delphi, which kind of game the idea to do this project.

Stefana, that would be excellent!! I need the wording I've created for Indy's diplomas from the Sorbonne (U of Paris) translated into French, since I doubt it was printed in English, . I am currently waiting to get some facts before proceeding but your help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, the Archivist at the U of Chicago has returned my email and gave me the names I needed to make the Bachelor's diploma as authentic as possible. Still waiting on a few other details before rolling out a second draft for your viewing pleasure.

I posted this in the "Photoshop/Video Editing" section, but it has received zero reads in almost thirty hours or so, and I thought I'd give it a try in this thread just because it is important to me and I kind of want an answer:
"I am in the process of finalizing Indy's bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago. I made it Photoshop, but when I tried printing off a couple of test ones, on different paper and I noticed something that upset me. The smaller sized fonts are blurry and pixilated, no matter what I do.
I've tried printing the file as a PDF, a JPEG, a BMP...various other picture files. Then I got the bright idea to print it as a word document. Still, the small print was blurry and not at all prop quality.
So I tried it on another printer, hoping it was just that. My wife tried it on her uber-fancy printer at the archives where she works. Still, pixilated and blurry smaller fonts. To make sure it wasn't a printer issue, I typed up a document with small fonts--the same kind used on the prop diploma, and printed out. That worked just fine.
Any suggestions? Any help?"

Hi Nick,
There may be a couple of things happeing here.
1) Make sure your image is set to at least 300dpi/ppi, less than that and you will get fuzzies on printout. Sometimes if you are just printing in black and white you may even try higher, but usually the standard is 300. (Image > Image Size > Resolution 300 pixel per inch)
2) The other thing is... photoshop is a bitmap program. All the text is broken down into pixels and then output. The jaggies between the pixels is making them blur.
If you use something like Illustrator or Coreldraw ... even Word, the text data is kept as mathematical vectors, that is when the printer prints it is is scaling down from smooth lines not the jaggies of the bitmap image.
Of course technically when you print out something it is rasterised in the printer, but a raster image and vector text are treated differently in a printer so come out differently.
One way around this is to remove the small text from the image and import the bitmap/psd/tiff into a vector program and typeset the smaller text into the resulting page. That way theoretically you should get smooth small print. Eg. place the image in word and type in the smaller text in word.
However, if you save the image as jpeg you will be back to square 1 as the image will be reconverted to bitmap and the same jaggies.
To avoid this you might be able to save as a distilled pdf but that is more a complicated matter.
(Like mud, huh? Sorry!)

Wow. Thanks Templar! I'm not going to pretend that I understoon more than half a dozen words in that, but I appreciate the help. I can look up that stuff and how to do it. I just needed a starting point.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I've been busy since the strike ended (hooray!?).
I'm going to try for a second version of the U of Chicago diploma. I'm hoping that if I increase the number of pixels per square inch, the detailed font won't print off so distorted and fuzzy in the smaller print.
I should have something by this weekend, so if those of you who posted above are still interested, let me know and I'll put a rush on this.

Okay, here is my almost-final draft. I have made it so that it is high-grade photo quality, so that when you print it out, the letters in the small print won't blur. Oh, and special attention to detail was paid to get the name fo the acutal University President at the time. I was unable to get the other names from the archives. So, who wants one? The actual doccument will print out at 8.5" x 11". Please send me a PM if you are interested. These look really nice if you print them on kind of a yellowed resume paper. I put my Miskatonic Diplomas in nice frames and they look pretty authentic. A friend acutally thought they were real until he looked at the dates.

Can you make me one too??? I could save myself plenty of time, money and nerves while studying to become a physcian! I wonder who will be up to the challenge to replicate Indy's transcripts ?

It is very well done. I was thinking though, wouldn't 'Junior' be abbreviated? I'm not sure at all about it, but I thought I would ask since it jumped out at me.
You know what would really set this off is if there were some school (stamps) seals on the diploma. They are supposed to have the school seal or some sort of seal, aren't they? I know Magnoli seems to be very good at getting that sort of stuff. I have absolutely no idea where to start getting things like that.

I believe that Indy studied archaeology under Abner Ravenwood at the University of Chicago, and got his degree in Archaeology there. His graduate degree in Linguistics was received from the Sorbonne in France.

One more thing. As I mentioned in a previous post, Indy's graduation date should be May 23, 1922. I think it is coming along great!

His graduate degree in Linguistics was received from the Sorbonne in France. I always thought that Indy went into Linguistics to please his father, but after meeting Abner (and presumably, Marion), went into Archeology in France, hence the tension between him and HJ, Sr. Or at least that is how I preceived it.

I chose to have Juinor spelled out in full because I do not know Indy's middle name; and I wanted the formal look of the three names. The actual seal for the University of Chicago is located just under the name of the school on the document. It isn't fancy because they are just printed on. Though some diplomas have them stamped on, that would just be too hard for a printable document.
