well here is the diary I have been working on the past 6 months. I never have had cramps in my hand before,at least not for so long.hehe, but it all paid of in the end. I want to thank Indy Magnoli.without him I could not have made this replica at this level. he has helped me and answered all my boring questions about this prop.so Tony, thank you for your help the diary is redrawen by me.only 5% of the diary still remains original scans.but unfortuanley the firm that scanned the original pages could only get the details in the really simple drawings :? .like the 3 trials.that is still an orginal scan.I have not done anything to it.but I had to do the really hard drawings my self like the bottom venice window and scraps and pages like that level of challange, thay were soooo hard to get right.but it looks pretty good I think the diary is based on the Hero prop and a bprop.I mixed them both and added alot of invented drawings.manuscript text.maps.clues,ect... it's not a story diary like many do these days. (I did it to in the past)but it's more like the hero prop without repeated pages.it's like a tool in search for the Holy grail (and it's actaully the first completed diary ever by me) well here are the pictures.please tell me what you think of it.

Great job, I see diaries w/ this level of craftsmanship go on ebay for over a thousand dollars. I have had a similar idea in mind w/ tracing over an existing template and i think now that i see this, i must try. Very inspiring.

thank you.it took me about 6 months to research, draw, write everything.to be completley honest there were times when I felt like giving up,but I am glad I did not.if I ever would have sold this it would be around a thousand dollars.I know it sounds much, but when think of 6 months with hard, hard painstakingly, cramp up my hand months it is actually a fair price yes I have added alot of invented pages to fill the diary.matched the style of the original prop, and of course the most important thing the handwriting.this diary is based on the hero prop and the bprop.I mixed them both.but no story.it's just like a tool in search of the grail.just like I always pictured the grail diary.not a personal diary with thought's and feelings and such-no,no..... this is how I like it the invented ones: lion.sword and cup.templar knight.melchisezadek with cup.mary and rose.Dome groundplan.manuscript text next to the original sword.kneeling knight with cup.knight without face.tomb of Sr.Richard and venice map.asphalt lake+spirit and grail.holy lamb and manuscript text. and much.much more in the diary wich I have not taken picture of.yet! feel free to redraw my images.that's just flattering.it's all about sharing.that's what the forum is about. Thanks again Holt

Please explain the "stamping and printing" method. You know I plan to do my own hand-made diary replica and I am curious as to how to do some particular images. Many are obviously hand-drawn, like the stained glass window, but some seem "printed"...Like the knights in armor that can be seen completely black while the contours and details are clear (like a negative image) example from my "low cost" diary replica ...How is that achieved ? If it is hand-made, I don't think I can fill the image in black ink without accidentally overlaping on the small clear contours and details ?! By the way, in the movie's storyline context, how would H-Jones would have made such images in his own diary ? He couldn't have "printed" them directly on the diary's pages, and it doesn't seem like a "cut-out" image glued-on either.

well first of all I did very small amount of stamping.this just done on a few pages.I did most of my diary free hand.but about stamping.if you have photoshop or microsoft publisher doesn't matter wich.when you do have an image you want to stamp you turn up the contrast and lower the brightness so that what is black on the image becomes a hole lot more blacker.a really thick layer of black.then you mirror the image and print it on high glossy paper.when you have done that you turn up with a mirror image of the drawing you want on the glossy paper.be carefull though...the ink is very wet since this is glossy paper.now open the diary and place the glossy sheet face down on to the page.close the book and put some heavy weight on it.leave it for about 5-6 minutes.open the book and voila you have the image stamped.now you jus have to fill in the rest of the stamp.take your time and fill in.
and yes H-jones could not have done this ''printing''method.it does't make any sence how this is done in the early 1900.well I just think this is done by h-jones with a caligrafer pen.and much of the ink is worn of so it lookes like a rubbing...I dont know...but it's an idea...
hope this helps a bit? Holt

2 more questions for Holt...you're gonna think I'm a real bugger but... What kind of pens/ink do you recommend for making my own replica ? And I am a bit puzzled ! About your diary you say " it's more like the hero prop without repeated pages. it's like a tool in search for the Holy grail " I know that an ideal blank journal for making the diary is about 200 pages or more, if they are like about only 60 original pages in the hero prop (all that I could find) and yours is a replica of this verison without any repeated pages...how (with what) does one fill the rest of the journal's empty pages ? I know you added some of your own pages to your diary but certainly not enought to fill more than 100 pages ?!

the pens I use a thin tip from thickness 1 to 5.they are called edding 1880 drawliner.but be shure that you use a waterproof pen.I did not because I scanned after drawing and laserprinted them out.
as for the ''hero prop'' title for my diary...aas I said above I used about six months on the diary and about 3 months from those six in research.so....yes I have enough to fill the diary with own invented pages to match up the story and drawings, and I finded alot manuscript text that tells clues about the grail lore. some pages are also still left blank in the diary as in the original and some pages have letters and telgrams glued to the spreads
hope this clears out these questions

Is the use of waterproof pen necessary because some "aging" might be needed on the diary's page after having written/drawn on them ?
Ah...So basically, you drew the images and wrote the text on separate pieces of paper, scanned them, laserprinted them out and then assembled the diary itself using the printed pages ? I was on the impression that you hand-made the diary directly onto a pre-assembled journal .(the way I plan to do mine)
On a different thread you mentioned... "I will soon be producing and selling my own diaries "... So you'll be printing those "scanned" hand-made pages, then assemble more diaries right ?

well yes the waterproof pens are important to use.cause if you apply coffea aging onthe pages the ink will blled .that's not god.
well when I did my old diaries I drew images in a allready bound journal.but not this time. beacuase I wanted a diary that was 99% accurate to the real thing,so thats why I had to work with seperate sheets of paper so I could fail many times without had to bind a new diary.this way I could just trhow them away and start over again.when I came down to the point were everything was perfect I binded it in to a diary.
yes this was the diary I was planning on selling.but I cant be selling.I will not take the risk, because of the LFL breakdown.I am shure that I would get the same letter from the Lucasfilms layers as Magnoli did.cause it's so close to the real diary as what Magnoli's was,and he got one for shure.so....
and I have put so much effort in making this.so the price would be very high.this would be almost like a collectors item and not just ''another'' diary replica.see?

Thanks, I will get waterproof ink pens just in case...Although I did purchase the journal in the "pre-aged cover and pages" version, but I might want to add more aging depending on how it looks.
Bummer !
