Hey all, was in a hobby store the other day, saw this and thought "I can't leave this here." Havana's mini trucks got me to thinking about putting something together (this store has a lot of those WWII vehicles, btw) and when I went to the planes section I just had to pick this up. (And it's such an ugly plane but it's so Lao Che.) Anyway, if anyone's interested in putting one of these together, I think they're most likely in current stock at hobby retail stores.

Hey Tone, I was actually looking at getting a model for each of the "travel" aircraft in the series and painting them the correct colors as they appeared on film. The Tri-motor and the DC-3 (i think) from LC wouldn't be much trouble finding. Its the Shorts Seaplane from Raiders that would be the most difficult. I've held off on the others until I've found that one.

Neat project. Was it a Shorts or a Sikorsky? I really don't know which type it was.
Regardless of their availability, the Tri-Motor is out there in case someone might be wanting a side project.

I saw that same kit at Wal-Mart. It's perfect for Lao's plane. It's a real classic early airliner. You'll also see one in the Untouchables and The Rocketeer.

Hey, I hope you guys do put these things together and post pics when your done. I love the work Havana did on both of his model trucks. Is it possible to find the right parts to make custom models of all of the vehicles in the films? Tone- According to the indygear page with the airplanes the Raiders seaplane is the Short Solent Mark III Flying Boat. I have tried looking for this model and have found nothing. I do not know if Sikorski had something that was a close enough design.
Maybe the Shorts Sunderland could be a close enough to start with.

Wow, Havana thank you very much for doing that. I knew I was missing some but all I could think of were the main ones in each film. That list is going to help the people searching to build these vehicles from the films out a lot. Man, I can't believe some of the prices on those though. ;D

This is a really cool find I used to build a lot of Models, that is why I am so impressed with Havana's Trucks. I'd love to see this plane and the Last Crusade tank assembled. Cheers, G-MANN

Thanks, conceitedape. I'm amazed at all the resources Havana put up here for the other items. Here I just thought this Tri would be cool as something to do; but for model enthusiasts, there's been some terrific info on where to get all kinds of other stuff! I've only had the patience for one model -ever- and that was a Millenium Falcon back when I was 22. I'm very curious about my own capabilities to put something together now with the intent of making it look real and weathered. I didn't realize there was so much stuff out there!
Thanks for the leads, Havana. The "Tri" is only $12.95, btw. So anyone watching their budget could pick one up and not break the bank also.

I would like to encourage anyone who's willing to try making some Indy movie models or Indy era models. It requires patience more than money but can be a lot of fun. Your results don't have to be perfect. Just enjoy it and do what you can. Conceitedape, Shorty's car was a replica of a 1936 Supercharged Auburn Boattail Speedster. How's that for a long name? Auburn was a division of Duesenberg and Cord. That car is a really odd choice for Short Round to be driving because it cost $17,000 new in 1936. And that was in the Depression! They only sold about 1800 of them before Auburn closed it's doors. Gary Cooper, Tyrone Power, and Clark Gable all had one. It was also heavily featured on the old Remington Steele tv series if anyone remembers that show. I think the only plausible explaination could be that Short Round stole it from one of Lao Che's rich patrons. Having Shorty drive that car would be like having him pull up in a $300K Bentley today.

Havana, Nice call. It would've been an extra slap in the face to Lao if they escaped in a car stolen from him! Or maybe Shorty just stole the fanciest car he could find 'cause he was into the 'bling'!! ~Jace
