Well, lambskin would be my choice, as that is what the original Raiders jackets were made from. Plus, from what I've seen, the U.S. Wings jackets look to be a bit heavier / bulkier than a normal Indy jacket (like, say, a Wested or G&B or especially a Todd's), so I would imagine a heavier hide, like goat, might make an already bulky jacket a bit bulkier...and frankly, for me, when it comes to Indy jackets, bulky is not my thing (but that's just me ). NOTE: I just cruised through the U.S. Wings "Indy jacket" page, and I couldn't help but notice that the cheapest jacket they offered was just under $300! In my opinion, if I were you, I'd take a good, long look at some of the other jackets out there before I dropped that kind of money on a U.S. Wings jacket. Some of the other jackets on the market are more accurate as far as details go, and in some cases, may cost about the same, or even LESS. Just a thought. There isn't anything wrong with U.S. Wings, after all, I just didn't realize they were going for nearly $300 bucks a pop at a MINIMUM. That seems steep to me. Well, regardless of which jacket you end up with, I hope it's everything you want it to be...and oh yeah, don't forget to post some pics! Oh, and I almost forgot...welcome to the lounge! -GCR

I agree completely with GCR. Lambskin would be most like Indy's jacket. If you plan to wear the jacket in a little rougher conditions or need more warmth, goatskin is a better choice. I would also really consider buying from Todd's Costumes, Wested, or saving for a G&B Expedition before getting a U.S. Wings. They do seem to make nice jackets, but do run really large size-wise, and are not very accurate to the Indy details. At that price, you have better options for sure. And... welcome to Indy Lounge! If you feel the need to go with a US Wings jacket, especially the Lambskin here is a warning. I have had 5 Lambskin and 1 Goatskin jackets pass through my hands. The lambskin varied GREATLY on the first 3 jackets (1-3) . Both in color and texture. The last 3 (3-5) were all identical and were just like the one Stefana posted.

They are on our list as one of the options for Indy style jackets, though I have no personal experience with them. I can tell from looking at the website, that the pattern is wrong (it has cuffs and hidden snaps, for example), and it isn't offered in lambskin. As you can see from the price drop, they really used to be quite expensive: www.leather.com/aviation/indy.htmEven though the price has come down online to about half, better options are out there for the same or less money. Todd's Costumes has the great offering very accurate pattern for only $150.00: www.toddscostumes.com/indy/jackets/indiana_jones_style_jacket.htmThen you still have Wested in the same price point as ones from San Diego Leather (leather.com). Just offering my opinion, Ken

Hey G-Man, What about Westeds? Are they any good?

Well, I am no expert when it comes to jackets, and I only have one. All I can tell you is that I love my Wested. I'm not real happy with the color (it's a bit too light), but I know eventually I'll use some Pecards on it.
I would go with a Wested.

I have had 3 Westeds and all of them were very nice jackets.
I had no ordering problems but all mine were off the rack jackets. Not jackets ordered with a long list of modifications.

I have two Westeds and have had my share of difficulties. I do like them both, though I wish there were a few things changed with the pattern.

My 1st jacket may be a US Wings. Todd doesn't have his Standard in Long so I'm not paying $350 extra for a custom; my wife would KILL me. I thought about a Wested but since they haven't responded to my emails from weeks back; how could I go with them? My best bet is to get a US Wings (vintage cowhide since lambskin is not in a Long) or a G&B, which is about $100 more.

jc1972,
If you go with the G&B you will not be disappointed. You may even save money in the long run because I have yet to see a post about anyone being unhappy with thiers after buying one.
Cheers, John
