Just a test. The oddest thing happening over here. While on a laptop with Windows Vista OS, I log onto the forum - it shows my name in the "who's on" section - but I can't access the member threads.
Very strange indeed. And yes, it falls under "distressing".
Trying to figure out if this is a forum setup issue or a compatibility quirk with the new and "improved" Windows Vista.
I'm thinking it's Vista. Anyway, just ranting on the new OS here since I'm technically logged in but not.
Might be a valuable piece of info for others switching to Vista who might experience the same problem.
Aeris.

AC,
I have been Vista for a month now with no problems. It can be a problem with chat though.
Cheers, G-MANN

Hmm. Thanks, G-Mann. As you can see (if you look now) I'm in as both but can only access private threads on the WIN XP "Tone" login.
Still in the course of updating Vista, but damn if I hate not knowing "WHY" this stuff happens. ;D
I'll keep messin'.

If you try using the Chat room you may run into problems with Vista.
I had to re-download Java as Administrator and get a string of code from the company that suppies the chat room.

That is good to know, G-Mann. Thanks. One last series of updates here to see what happens...

Seems to be site-specific and 'might' be related to the Chat room enabled here. G-Mann, do you have the link or verbage you used in getting the update for the chat?

Hmmm...
That's why I was kind of waiting for a while before I had my brother upgrade my computer and install Vista. I'm sure like with any other Microsoft OS there will always be "issues" but it usually takes about a year for everything to catch up to Microsoft. ;D
So do you guys like it so far?

My new computer came with Vista so I didn't have an option.
So far I have had only minimal problems and those seem to be all ironed out now.
Cheers, G-MANN

It's just the usual bugs as you've mentioned, PH. The software itself is just a colorful way of making things more "user friendly" while disorienting anyone who's gotten used to the XP platform.
I really haven't had a whole lot of time with it, but I needed something for while I'm away from home. All the new stuff is coming out with Vista. I'm sure there are plenty more bugs in it - as you've mentioned - being a first generation OS. Microsoft is notorious for things like this. (Then again, so are car companies.) :S
The other part is just getting familiar with how they laid things out in this one. I hate applications that "think" for me while they suppress information on how to adjust it. Pet peeve is all. Overall, it's not all that annoying - so far.

I have a free upgrade from Win XP Pro to Vista Pro, but don't plan on using it anytime soon. When I put together this new computer, buying the XP Pro software came with the upgrade to Vista Pro, since it was just about to be released.
Everything is rock solid with this new system now and I have thousands of dollars of pro audio recording software, plugins, and sound card itself. I also have a video capture card, video editing software, and other such things that I'm not sure of the compatibility with Vista. For me, things are fine the way they are and I have no desire to start adding more stress or spending more money. ;D

I upgraded my computer a few years ago and then about a year after that my video card went out on me. So then I upgraded that. When it comes to computer hardware and software it's like "dog years" so I'm sure me being 2 years behind is more like 10 years. I'm running on a Pentium 4 2.80GHz with 512MB of RAM so I'm guessing I'm going to have to buy a new chip and board before I can even run Vista, correct?

PH, I haven't even checked the actual specs for what it takes to run Vista but from what I understand it does require a considerable processor and memory. Like I said, I bought the laptop as a second "in the field" machine. It came with Vista already on it. Just having fun seeing where the bugs are.

Yeah, I've heard that. I'm willing to bet I'm going to have to fork over some cash to upgrade my computer first before I get Vista. I'm perfectly fine with XP at the moment and I'll worry about that later. I did see it running on a computer at Best Buy when it first hit the stores and I messed with it briefly. It does seem like there's a few things I'd have to get "adjusted" to before I'd be comfortable using it. My brother is constantly upgrading his stuff because of the line of work that he's in so I *might* be able to get some of his 3 month old hand me downs when I go to switch. There's just to much stuff that I want to get.... Regular AB Todd's Jacket. A new car A bigger house A motorcycle A new TV and Entertainment Center! "Now let's see......Where did I put the seeds for that money tree?"

Don't forget to fertilize the money tree by planting coins in the ground all around it. That's a trick John shared with me from his years of reaping bountiful harvests of fresh green cash.
I should say, however, that my money tree still hasn't bloomed. In fact, it may actually be a thorn bush instead... though the jury is still out.
