Hi gang, I can finally announce that the jacket of my dreams has become reality and is now mine When I saw the horse hide of my buddy Jens during the last European summit at Peter's place, I knew I had to have one. So I talked to Peter to see if he could make one to my specs. (i.e. smaller pockets than standard, different inner pocket facing and all the other funny things I can come up with). Peter aggreed and I went back to Germany after a great summit again. Fast forward some months and I found a small plastic bag in front of my door when I came home (I was quite surprised to see that I was supposed to have signed for the parcel on the internet the very next day, simply because I never did...) and I tore it open. First impression: boy this is heavy. Almost like wearing an armor. Later I compared to my Wested goatskin instead of my Barbour wax cotton jacket and compared to that, it's not THAT heavy, but you won't forget that you're wearing it though Second impression: man that thing is stiff!!! Again: compared to the Barbour wax cotton jacket - which makes everything seems rather stiff. Compared to my goatskin, it was still stiff, but it has losened up considerable since (I've had it for two weeks now) and I think in 2-3 years it'll drape really nicely I know that to some this would be completely out of range, but going by my preferences of "what would a guy like Indy - if he had existed - chose for his adventures?" - rather than the thought of a replica of a costume, this is EXACTLY what I want. If you should ever feel the need to be drugged behind a truck, this would be the jacket to chose. I'm extremely pleased to see that Peter nailed all the details asked for and that I can put this quest to rest without going through the trouble to make it myself ;D Here are the pictures: and of course the standard pictures of the jacket worn: Thank you SO much for this truly wonderfull jacket Peter!!! HIGH regards, Marc

That's a great looking jacket you have there, Marc! Easily one of the best Westeds I've seen. They really nailed the pockets, which is great to see, knowing how hit or miss Wested had been in that regard over the years. I also like the clean look inside the jacket, without all the leather facings we're used to. I have to say, the color and grain of the hide are both beautiful. I'd say you have yourself a winner, there! Now, knowing how much of a stickler you can be for SA details, I have to wonder, how long will those D-rings last before you swap them out with something else? ;D -GCR

Once I'll get some s.a. buckles, I'll exchange the D-rings. However since that's such a minor thing to do and so easily done, it doesn't bother me (yet ). After several year of hats, hats and hats again, my gear has certainly move forward lately. By now I've got a hat I'm happy with , this jacket which is absolutely terrific, a holster that couldn't be any better IMHO, an outstanding replica gun, plenty of s.a. noname shirts ;D, some original MKVII bags with matching buckles (and working on the straps), a new super accurate 10' bullwhip (more on that one later), a Hubertus pocket knife and some outworn Aldens. What I need yet is: a solid brass buckle webbing belt (which I'll take care of), another gunbelt (I measured too short on the one I have - but I hope that sooner or later Kim will take care of this), pants (hmmm...), new boots (HMMMMM.....) and that's it... WOW! I'm almost done... PHEW!!! Just before I thought it would become borring: I need a grey hat yet, an airsoft browning and a 1936 classic vehicle Regards, Marc

Tha jacket looks great and I'm glad you got what you really wanted. I think I know of a great place to get that grey hat too. And if he gets grey rawbodies in for your hat, he will surely sell out of them in no time. Congrats, Ken

Marc, congrats on the HH jacket. I absolutely love mine, and it's become my favorite Indy jacket. It's so weird, the ebb and flow of favoritism, lol. I agree that it feels more like an actual "road worthy" jacket. This one seems like it will last a lifetime. I like it so much, I'm already contemplating selling off the rest of my jacket collection.
Now, the only difference seems to be yours is stiff horsehide, while mine is almost as soft as lamb. Mine is softer and drapes better than my goatskin ever did. I bought it second hand, so I'm going to ask the original owner what he may have done, to soften it up. I'll send you my findings. Mike

Marc! AWESOME JACKET! You're making Wested look very tempting to me again! It's truly refreshing to hear that Peter didn't leave anything out. I would like to give him my business again as I think he's a very nice guy. I may decide to take my chances with peter for a HH jacket..though I really have to think about it some more. This is a very very minor detail and I hate to even bring it up in the face of your wonderful acquisition, but did you ask Peter for the yoke seam higher than the arm seam? Or is that a detail that isn't that important to you?...which is understandable, as it isn't that important to the majority of gearheads. --Just curious.

Thanks so much guys!!! I'm REALLY enjoying this jacket Jens told me, that his Wested hh softened up QUITE a bit over a few months as well, also to the point where it became softer than his goatskin, so perhaps mine is just to new yet. Did you get yours from Rick? - That would explain a lot Too kind Don ;D It's a size 40 though Why bother to bring it up Andy? - This is a gear forum and we're here to discuss the pros and cons of the various offerings out there. I requested to have the seams even, so if you want, that was missed. To such a smal degree that I didn't even notice it to be honest, but it's obviously higher on the arms. I can see that on the Todd in fact it's a little lower on the arms (just for comparison). I'll call up Peter today and see if he actually has the patterns for this jacket, or if the just went by list of specs. etc., as this jacket seems to have caused quite some interest... Regards, Marc

I spoke to Peter yesterday after the TREMENDOUES response I got on that jacket, be it via pm, e-mail or call. We will now try to work out the specs. AND the "not specs" (i.e. stop using LC pockets on a Raiders jacket) together and Peter will then modify his patterns accordingly or offer a "Marc specs." jacket. I promised not to post 4 pages of specs. in order to not make people go nuts and just sending in these 4 pages together with an order.
Regards,
Marc

Bravo Marc! Was it really 4 pages of specs? Also, will it take a long time for Peter to adjust your specs and patterns to other people's jacket sizes?

I think it started out with 3 pages and a pattern of the pocket shape... I have the file somewhere on my office computer yet. But then things where added later on via e-mail and phone (something Peter REALLY doesn't like). I don't know how long it'll take Peter to be honest. I'll try to get all my notes and drawings together this week and send it to him. Regards, Marc

I think it's great that Marc is working with Peter on the specs. I get the impression that Peter respects Marc ( I think he even put his name forward to Lucasfilm for the hats), so hopefully something will come of this. And we all know how persistent Marc is! Horsehide is a wonderful leather - especially for the Indy jacket. Mine wasn't stiff and although it felt heavy to pick up, it doesn't feel heavy to wear. My only concern is with the stitching. Maybe it's because the HH is so thick, I don't know... but my jacket had to be sent back because some stitching was loose - and IndyBreineder had to return his because some stitching was missing. So far, my replacement seems to be well made- but I do still look a little nervously at the stitching to check that it's still OK.

Great looking Wested. I definitely want to order a HH now also. Hopefully your specs will make it to some of the jackets when I order. I can wait a couple of weeks while details are worked out.

I think the HH looks great but I'm very concerned about ordering another jacket from Wested due to the same issues a lot of people seem to be experiencing with their jackets and that's loose stitching. The same thing happened with my goat. I like Peter and I loved that jacket. I just don't want to sit there and have to check my jacket every few minutes to make sure there aren't any loose threads. I hope Marc is able to get something put in place there were they have his specs on hand encase anyone wants the same jacket he got.
