Hello everyone
I am new to the forums and have been viewing the threads for a few days or so and must say that this site is both informative and impressive.
I wanted to know if there was someone who could help me with a small indy-related dilemma.
I intend to purchase an LC jacket from Wested, however, after completing as much research on the subject as possible, I cannot decide which is the more SA version as far as the cowhide is concerned. I've heard good things about both the new cowhide, the regular cowhide and the predistressed cowhide.
Would anyone with pictures of what the actual Wested LC's in the various cowhides look like be willing to post them here and help a fellow Indy fan out?
I would truly appreciate it.
- Chevy

Welcome chevchelios.
Although there has been speculation that the LC jacket was cowhide, anecdotal evidence still points towards lambskin study of the screen caps also show it looks like the lambskin, people who have seen the Smithsonian jacket and Kurtz jackets have not commented that the leather was any thicker.
Unless you really want a thicker heavier jacket, the most SA leather is still the Authentic Brown Lambskin. IMO.
If you are wanting to have a jacket like the CS then the Novapelle Cowhide looks very much like the images we have seen. Of course we cannot be 100% sure... but that was where the research/samples were leading.
The regular predistressed cowhide is lighter in colour and looks great with a coat of pecards too.
The LC and CS jackets really do not look very different and I don't think Wested really makes a differentiation, personally I'd order a CS (for the better collar) and ask for the body length that you prefer.

Thank you, Templar, for the quick response.
I am still learning some of the abbreviations on the site, so bear with me please.
What does "CS" mean?

Thank you for the welcome Ken. I've only seen people abbreviate it KotCS so far, but I prefer Templar's way already Well, I am leaning towards the predistressed with a coat of pecards; only I would love to see a picture before I order. The only pics I've found aren't in the best lighting and make it seem more orange than anything else.

Ordering as 'CS' style in novapelle should give you a jacket looking like this: The body is slightly short on this jacket as I am tiny, the pockets should be about an inch further away from the bottom of the jacket and at the same time the jacket should be (probably a couple of inches longer) to be strictly correct.

Their predistressed cowhide looks like this: (Obviously this is a Wolverine jacket!)

Thank you for the pics, Templar. In your opinion, is the predistressed leather too light to be SA as far as the LC goes?

Thank you for the pics, Templar. In your opinion, is the predistressed leather too light to be SA as far as the LC goes? You know it's a matter of taste, for LC it may just work if you want to distress it further to look more like the screen jacket. But IMO I don't really like the predistressed cow.

Welcome Friend! I have a a LC Cowhide with the Dumbo Collar. I like the leather, weight and color. But you should definitely go with the CS Collar! I will post pics this weekend maybe!

Thanks for the welcome, Cowboy. Is your collar one of the older ones? I noticed in Templar's thread 'KT to get an LC' that he says he decided to give the new version of the LC a go. So I take it, if I order one now it will have a well proportioned collar and not one of those monstrosities featured in the thread 'LC Collar'?
Templar, on your latest LC jacket, the one in the darker predistressed leather, which leather is it offered by Wested? They offer two cowhides, Lambtouch cowhide and dark brown predistressed. I always thought the predistressed came lighter in color. Is that the lambtouch one? What's the difference between the two choices?
Gemma sent me samples but she didn't label them so I'm at a bit of a crossroads.

Cool, can you take a pic of the samples you have, we might be able to give an educated guess.
Formerly Wested had 2 cowhides: Dark brown and predistressed. The dark brown was very heavy, and the predistressed like the Wolverine jacket shown above.
The lambtouch is rarely seen, I think I've seen only one, it's a very thinly shaved cowhide that seems even thinner than lambskin, (and a bit fragile) personally I'm not too keen on the look of that.
The CS jacket I showed is made of Novapelle which is a lightly predistressed soft cowhide.

I have a dark brown cowhide LC jacket, KT is right, its heavy, feels really tough. I sent it back when it arrived first though cause it had the old collar, not the pointed one. So had to specify what kind of collar I wanted on it, even sent them a pic of KT's LC so they knew what I meant

I would take pics if I had a camera, Templar, sorry.
It is looking as though if I want the best LC jacket possible I should order CS in Novapelle; kind of odd considering you'd think that Wested would offer a CORRECT version of the LC jacket on its own.
guardian, how SA is your dark brown LC cowhide jacket? It isn't predistressed, correct?

This is a cowhide jacket I had, it's hard to show with pictures just how much a cowhide differs from the lambskin... as a point of reference a size 40 lambskin I have weighs about 2lb this size 40 cowhide was more like 5 lb. Plus a couple of reference shots for you.

Thank you for those, KT.
After seeing that bottom pic, I am more or less convinced that I'll be getting a predistressed LC jacket for certain. My only question or concern is about the collar. What specifications should I ask for so as to get it SA and not HUGE the way that one pic in the thread LC Collar depicts?

Ok, here is how I would order it:
LC Jacket in predistressed cowhide. Supply all your sizings:
Shirt collar, Chest, Waist, Sleeve (tip of shoulder to where your thumb meets your hand) Back length required. (Nape of neck to where you want the jacket to fall) I tend to err on the side of slightly long... 1.5 inch below the tops of regular jeans pocket. It is easier to live with a jacket that is too long rather than too short. Weight Height
Specs 1) Indy 4 prototype pattern. CS "pointy" style collar, (Emphasise how important this is to you.) Collar to start half way along storm flap. With poppers on the storm flap.
2) Small pockets CS style. (no taller than 7.5") With big pocket flap. Pocket positioned 2" away from the bottom edge of the jacket. (Send a pic to be sure). Please make sure the flap is scalloped correctly.
Less important:
3) No inner zipper facings.
4) To be screen accurate satin liner, however cotton is more durable.
5) Long side straps with d-rings.
6) Single stitched shoulder.
7) If you want to be really, really picky ask for a slightly wider storm flap at 1 3/4", the LC jacket stormflap is slightly wider.
For all of the details send pics if you can.

I truly appreciate the help, KT.
So essentially you've listed everything I need to include in the order for it to be as SA as possible?
I know you've done a great deal already, but I don't suppose you could put up the pictures you mean? Such as the pocket's positioning and any other details that you think Wested will need to know?
I TRULY appreciate this, once again. I've loved Last Crusade since I was about 6 and have been waiting for this opportunity to get the most SA jacket possible.
I NEVER would have known to ask for such details as the ones listed above.

Then I thank you once again, KT. I will essentially copy and paste that post above and place it with my order.
Is it possible to order through email rather than using the form on the site?
Also, which pics above specifically should I include?

chevchelios Welcome to the Lounge KT is the man to get advice from when it comes to current info on Wested. Which brings me to....... KT, Does Peter still have the leather that you sent me the swatch of (with Homer)? I might be interested in a jacket made from that leather. Cheers, John

G-Mann,
That leather seemed to be a bit of a dead end. He does still have a small batch but because of the colour and the difficulty getting panels to match he seems reticent about using it. But you can of course ask!
He is still trying to get a darker veg tanned lamb skin with a similar finish but I don't know if that has happened yet.
chevchelios:
Just paste the parts that you are concerned with, a lot of that is very nitpicky. My biggest issues would be the shape of the collar and the shape and size of the pockets.

Well, I placed the order; exactly as you said KT.
I included the pics of the LC jacket above and another full pic I found elsewhere on the forum.
I am hoping it is a home run right out of the gate, pardon the phraseology mixing.
Once it arrives, I'll be sure to find a camera and takes some pics so you can see how it came out, Templar.

Thanks for the pic, COWBOY.
Hey KT, after careful consideration, and perusing the hell out of the Club Elsewhere forums, I decided to take your advice.
I got a hold of Gemma and changed it from Pre-distressed cowhide to Novapelle. It seems a little more SA in the long run, and I am looking forward to wearing the jacket in naturally.
