This is a question that I think I know the answer to but still want to ask. Since Peter did make the original jackets, are you absolutely going to buy one? I did . Cheers, G-MANN

I've owned (I think) 4 Westeds now - my current being the horsehide. For me, being in Europe, Wested is the obvious choice. Years of experience in making sturdy jackets, good customer service (at least that's always been my experience), decent price and NO customs!!!!!! And then there's the fact they made the original jackets. I really liked Todd's jacket - but the price, plus the inconvienience of having to send it all the way to the States should anything go wrong, and the lack of experience (his jackets may all fall to bits after 1 year - we don't know yet.. ) - rather put me off.

You know the response from me! 2 lambs, one cow, one horse, one distressed cow on the way. Plus a War of the Worlds and a Doctor Who. Madness!

I have two of them; A goatskin I bought directly from Wested and a lambskin I bought from G-Mann/John on a super deal blowout special type thing. That jacket became my distressed one, because of the special price. I also have a new G & B Expedition.
Our experiences in the U.S. are the opposite of Pagey's. If there is a problem with the jacket, it costs an arm and a leg in shipping and fees to have things fixed.
I would not buy another Wested or any other brand of Indy jacket for that matter. I have enough to last a lifetime now.

Well good that this came along. I've been hammering on which jacket to get for so long.
I could have bought a GB but due to the fact that the sizing , isn't always spott on and the distance and the sending back would cost alot. Then Todd'ds I kinda have the same point of view of that as Pagey.
And that brings me to wested. It's nearby , original maker. And costs less then the other ones do. BUT wested has had alot of trouble getting their orders right.

I love Westeds. I've owned several over the years, including 4 lambs, 3 goats, a cowhide, and now a horsehide. I'll probably buy another. 'Blues

I've owned two, one of which I still have and wear regularly (along with my G&B). Great jacket all around, not 100% screen-accurate on every detail (then again, I didn't order it that way), but still a great jacket. Would I buy another one? You bet! -GCR

But, the G&B Expedition's sizing, pattern, and consistency in quality is always spot on. You can order the same size jacket this year and every month for the next 5 years, and always wind up with the exact same jacket. The return shipping might be an issue, but you can swap to another size with no problem at all. Ken

I picked up a used distressed cowhide one over a month ago, but as soon as I save up some additional funds I am considering getting a horshide Wested. It would be my first new one. Although the Expedition is awfully tempting.

I already own a lamb, and would love to have gotten a goat. Since that can't happen, I will probably end up getting a Horse hide at some point in the future.

I have a Cowhide LC Wested. I like the jacket, but am unhappy that the pocket seam popped under the flap. The jacket was less than 3 months old too. Also, it took longer to receive than promised. I would more than likely purchase a Wested in the distant future. Overall it is a great jacket, but time will tell. I have a US Wings Goat and a recently purchased G&B Goat. I would never purchase a Wings again. They are just not that impressive as I thought. I love the cotton lining in my Wested, but worry about it's durability. The clip on my clip-knife has already worn a hole in the lining. In the past ten years, no other coat that I have worn with this knife has ever done so. Of all the Indy jackets that I have, I love the look and feel of the Wested Cowhide. It is in my favorite of all the hides even though I have never owned a lamb skin, I have seen my fair share and I just love the hide Peter uses for the Cowhides. Now, if only they (Wested) could get the seams to hold and the collars correct (MY LC Collar is VERY UN SA) and the pockets consistant......? The best part about the Wested is that you can believe that you have purchased a true Indy coat historicaly...... and the war rages on...

I have heard of people having quality and service issues with Wested. I have ordered 3 from them over the years and have gotten the same great quality and service from them everytime. These jackets were ordered over a 6 year span. When I ordered, I was very clear about what I wanted but I didn't give them any lengthy list of alterations. I think that's asking for trouble. Keep it simple. My current Wested is a lamb and it's held up to all kinds of abuse. It shows it's wear but has never punctured or torn. I've worn it almost daily in the cooler months, taken it to Africa 3 times, slept on it, sat on it, and so on. I chose lambe because I wanted a light jacket that would show lots of wear. I would not hesitate to buy from Wested again.
