Hey Folks,
If there is anybody that has recently picked up a jacket and wants to switch to rectangular sliders, from whatever your jacket came with PM me.
I just bought 2 extra sets of 4. These are Flat black metal and are IDENTICAL to what G&B uses on the Expedition Jacket.
Cheers, G-MANN

I never put much thought to the sliders. I'm not that much of a accurate nut about the jacket as I am about the hat. you'll have to really fill me in on this my friend.

Hi G-Mann is that on your G&B, I thought they came with those as standard?
Just as an aside: I think sliders is a confusing name, I've heard hem called Belt Loops or Rectangular Wire Loops. Basically the Rectangular version of D-rings. I think Sliders makes you think of tri glides which are completely different.

KT,
Yes that is my G&B and yes they do come with them standard.
I am considering replacing the Buckles on my Todd jacket with the sliders or Metal loops as they are called on Strapworks website. Or "Metal Dealies" as Homer would say ;D
Cheers, G-MANN

Ah, go for it. Easy job. (if the buckles are plastic, if they are metal... slightly trickier!)

As you can see from KT's pic, they aren't welded shut (neither are the D-rings) so you just pry them open, slip the D-rings off and slip the Dealies on and then push them shut again. Done. Took me less time then it did to type this out (then again I type slow) ;D -GCR

Hello all,
I'm curious about these sliders, I just received my second Wested and its got the d rings as well. So I don't have square sliders on any of my Wested jackets. Ive got them on my expedition. I'm wondering if the bending and then re-closing weakens them or leaves them less than straight. just curious. I really want to replace the d rings.
Sincerely, Prof.Wex

Hi,
You only need to move them a couple of mm and only doing it twice so metal fatigue shouldn't be an issue. You're turning the opend bit back inside the leather lookp of the strap after doing it so you won't see a thing.
In the end they are pretty inexpensive so if they did end up snapping you can always replace them.
BTW if your jacket is an LC D-rings are SA.
Regards KT.

Well I just had a long to chat with Peter and have ordered a new Wested. I've asked for sliders - but if I end up with d-rings, I'll switch them. I'm not bothered about SA, I just think they look neater.

Nick,
You know it's 8.30am, poor guy's probably still in his PJs!
Did you ask how his eye is?

Don't worry - our chat was on Friday! Yes, I asked about his eye. He gave me a full description of what they did in hospital (ugh, you don't want to know!) - and told me that it gave him immediate relief and his eye is as good as new. He's just not supposed to overdo his computer activity - so I told him to stop reading the threads about Todd's jackets. ;D He also chatted at length about all manner of things, hide types, design issues- and of course that "Indy IV matter". Apparently the News of the World is sniffing around that particular story. Anyway, the end result was he's making me a new jacket in horsehide.

Yup, the bit about having to rest it on his cheek and clean the back gave me the heebie jeebies.
Good choice on the HH I think it's a beautiful leather.

Hey G-Mann,
Do you have any tips on putting these sliders on, I tried earlier to day, but I accidentally scratched one up a bit, so before I try again I was wondering what you used to spread them open them back closed. I used needle nose pliers to spread them open and regular pliers to close them, but that takes the finish off. no harm to the slider except the finish. so got any tips.
Sincerely, Prof.Wex

I covered the slider with a paper towel to keep that from happening. You can also use any kind of thin cloth the same way.

Yes, put a towel or t-shirt between the pliers and the slider, to keep the pliers from scratching it. Repeat on other 3 sliders. 'Blues EDIT....You're fast Ken,....real fast. 'B

Thanks RB, Blues,
I'm gonna give it another shot. Shouldn't take to long this time around. I was just so worried about scratching them up. a towel should work good. I thought about putting a towel around them earlier but I was worried about being able to see what I was doing. Ill post some pics later after I get them changed.

You can also snip the tips off a couple of fingers off some cheap rubber... er... gloves a put them on the pliers.
Or just be really gentle. I used the larger pliers. and remember the open part of the ring gets turned back round inside the leather loop so you wont see it if it gets scratched anyway!

Hey guys, well I got my first set of sliders done , the only thing I did different was, I bead blasted the black paint off, then used my zippo to change the color of the medal. they turned out really nice and the color is really cool now, not only are they very dark, they have some blue and green and bronze colors in them. Look at the pic KT posted, mine looked like the one in the middle when I started now they look like the first one in KT's pic. I took some pics but they are to blurry, my camera wont do close ups for some reason. Sincerely, Prof.wex

Sliders look soooo much better than D-rings, IMO.... so I'm giving your switch a resounding 2 thumbs up! Ken
