Todd, The more I get used to this jacket the more I like it. I took it outside and hosed it down with cold water. I am now wearing it and the wrinkles and texture are starting to show nicely. Thanks for sending me such a great jacket, outstanding job. I will post new pics soon. Cheers, John

I have to add.
As this jacket is drying and conforming to my body shape, I am in awe.
In less than one day it is becoming my favorite Indy jacket. It looks and feels worn in allready and has a lived in appearance.
Todd, If a few more people get this Lambskin and have the courage to give the jacket a good soaking, you are going to be one busy man. And that's no BS.
Cheers, John

Cheers, John John, Did you totally soak the jacket with cold water or did you just spray it enough to get the outer layer wet? I can't imagine walking around in a cold dripping wet leather jacket would be to comfortable.

Harry, I zipped it up and used my garden hose outdoors. I shook off the excess then put it on. All I know is it does the trick. Cheers, G-MANN

John, Thanks for trying some water so I can see what happens. My little test is below: Obviously I couldn't burn a whole jacket as an experiment, but I thought this might be the result. I think this lamb is VERY close to the original leather.

BTW, if you dampen it again you can pull those wrinkles back out and let it dry. Just be cautious because the finish does wear off much faster when wet.

Holy freakin' crap!!!!!!! That jacket was new, like, YESTERDAY, right? ;D Damn, that lambskin DOES distress nicely! That already looks like it's been well worn for a few years! Nice job getting a great look, John! And nice find on a great leather choice, Todd! I had to skip out on this lounge deal due to the financial turmoil that sometimes accompanies a change in jobs and I already regretted having to let the jacket deal slide, but now, after seeing how awesome John's jacket looks, I'm REALLY regretting it! ;D I'll have to go raid the couch for spare change and start a "Todd's jacket" fund, I need one of these babies! Nice work on the jacket once again, John! -GCR

D'OH!!! Get it off that hook and onto a hanger! If the leather takes to water so well it'll also take to that hook just as well and stretch the leather out. I've learned that hard lesson from experience. On another note, those sleeves look KICK ASS!

I can confirm that soaking the jacket then wearing or wadding it up, does add those great wrinkles and years of wear to it. I did this to my lambskin jacket when I first got it, and the results were indentical. I used the garden hose on mine as well, though it has also been in the dryer, and had artificial distressing done in certain areas. Also like Todd said, if you hang the jacket on a hanger, over a chair, or just smooth it out to dry, the wrinkles will go away. The character of the leather may change permanently from the water (which is what we're going for here), but the wrinkles are not permanent unless you keep it wadded or balled up. Waiting on the photos too John.... Ken

I don't know if I would get the same effect with my Wested goat or not but I may give it a try sometime. Like GCR said.......I definitely want to get one of Todd's jackets. I just don't know if I'll have the spare cash in time before it goes to it's regular price!

Just remember... even though the wrinkles may not be permanent, the character of the leather will change forever. If you only have one Indy jacket and you like keeping it in new condition for everyday use, I do not recommend you do it. I wouldn't have except that it was my second jacket.

Wow, that's pretty radical. I wonder if that means the hide is so soft and stretchable that the jacket will lose it's shape quickly.

Nick,
Actually now that the jacket had dried the leather seems a little tougher.
I really think it will hold up very well. Only one way to find out and that is to start wearing the heck out of it.
Cheers, John
