Ordered a G2 Lamb from US Wings during their clearance sale. This one must have been returned repeatedly because I can't for the life of me think of anyone who'd wear this thing with the leather as puffy and knobby in a flight jacket the way this one is. Interestingly enough, the leather as it looks on the front panel has some of that texture we'd like to see (and do see later in the film) in an Indy. This lambskin also feels different than their Indy version antique lamb. It's also a great shade of brown without that orangeish hue. The problem is an entire jacket made from this tends to look like Dragon Skin, especially on the sleeves here... and the back... Close up of the texture (even on the collar) For a flight jacket I much prefer the smoothe patina (finish) the way a normal bomber has but I found it very interesting stuff here. They call this their Vintage Lamb while the other is Antique. They don't seem to have any of their Indy jackets made from this Vintage Lamb (and I can guess the majority of them would be sent back for looking too Dragonesque) but a jacket with a bit of this on the front would really look close to the condition of the Raiders jacket once it's in Cairo. From additional experimentation, I can say that this dragon skin effect was enhanced from a run through the washer. It's a US Wings "Small" and if fits the way I'd want a flight jacket to fit.

Wow, after the first picture I thought.... that texture isn't so bad at all. Then I scrolled down to see the others! That is one super puffy lamb hide! What did they do... feed him marshmallows 24 hours a day? Great cut to the jacket though, and a real shame that the hide doesn't match the look. I guess that's why they call these clearance specials though. I wonder how many people returned this one, as you mentioned, before it made it's way into the clearance stack. Ken

Yeah, the first pic makes you go, "WOAH! That's the - " until you see the next and say, "Eh."
I'm betting the coat's repeatedly going out and coming back is definitely what put it on the Clearance shelf. I'd love to know where this leather came from, though, and what the process was in turning out a hide like this.
Colorwise, this turns brown underneath in the stress areas, unlike the gray we're used to seeing. Aside from this ::ghack:: monster pebbling, there might be more authenticity to this particular lamb than meets the eye. It is not pleathery; it feels like a solid leather but unmistakably lamb (in the sense that it's not mistakably cow or goat if that makes sense). Very cool in one way and dreadful in another.
"BEATERRRRRR LAS VEGAS....." I'll still wear it.

AC,
The cut of that jacket is great. The Lamb they made that out of is so puffy and wrinkley that my first thought was " Wow that must have been made from one of the two lambs on Noah's Ark"
I love the color though.
Cheers, G-MANN

Ya had to go and wash it didn't ya!
Facinating leather, I really wonder what caused that dragonhide. If it were toned down 50% it would be really nice. Currently it's a bit in-your-face!
Thanks for sharing, it'll make a great beater.
At that price you can't loose.

That is some weird looking leather. It certainly has the look of some kind of exotic hide - repitilian almost or rhino. Give it some time. You might just come around to liking it.

Man I love that color. That leather might grow on me if it got beat up enough. Thanks for the show and tell AC.

Havana, I don't really hate it as it is. It's definitely an "odd" look but just unique enough to enjoy. I...think. ;D Yes, Garzo, anything but lamb, that's for sure. Kaplan, that is the one thing about this jacket that I really like. The shade of brown it has fits the bill in my eyes. Not too black, not too light brown. There is a part of me that hates this finish on a coat with such a nice shade and it's probably the color most of all that'll keep me throwing it on in the winter time. All I can do is try to make it look worse, I guess. I'm interested myself to see how this leather starts to look after it's been lived in and beat a few times. Then again, we're at 110-111 degrees mark so it won't be seeing too much action until winter.
