I bought 2 goat skins from US Wings last week. They had a Factory 2nd's clearance sale. Got both with shipping for $180! I can not see any flaws on either. Mine just has a loose stitch under the collar easily fixed! I love my Wested, but the Wings is slightly longer and the pockets are much easier to use. I love my Wested, but for other reasons hard to explain.....Both are great jackets in their own right. I don't really care about SA, just a good fit. BTW, after watching ROTL this weekend, no one can convince me that it wasn't a Wested (OK, G&B or who ever the hell it was) the HF used. There was several jackets used too. ;D Sorry, I do not have a HJ or AB. I only wear wide brimmed hats. This is one I had custom blocked to my specs. it is an 8x Serratelli Stone body . I call it the Teddy Roosevelt Western big game hat (based off of photos I found of him). Not everyone can look good in a Fedora I am afraid, (Ken, G-mann and Pitfall, no competition for you all here)so I don't even try.

The US Wings jacket's cut really works well on you Cowboy! Actually, that hat seems to fit you very well too. I am certainly not the screen accurate buff that some are, as I'm too cheap to buy many of the really close items. So, I say... more power to you for sticking to your guns (pun intended ), and wearing what you like only. I'll bet when those jackets break in they will be very comfortable too. I think you got a great deal on those! Congrats, Ken

Yeah, yeah...I know this is a jacket thread, in the jacket section, but I gotta chime in here on the hat. That is one damn fine looking hat you have there Cowboy. I not only like the style, but I also like the historical inspiration behind it, very cool indeed. I'm not one who is able to pull off the wider brim look, though I can't really pull off the narrow brim stuff either, I'm right smack in the middle which makes the Indy style fedora a prime choice for me. But, if I could get away with wearing a hat like that, I'd want one just like it. Oh yeah, and the jackets look pretty nice, too... -GCR

Now, if I could only find a shirt to make the shoulders broad and the spare tire slim, I could be rich! Thanks for the Kind words, much appreciated GCR. Teddy Roosevelt would have been a great Man to have run with. I have one of his published journals on North American Hunting expeditions. It is great! He has a great writing style and can really describe things well, be it Dogs, Guns, Landscape or Big Game. He is one of my all time heroes.

It made me ill to see them use such an in-accurate piece of crap!!!! It was the wrong style and was a crappy plain 100% cheap felt. Not what you would expect from a big budget film

Now, if I could only find a shirt to make the shoulders broad and the spare tire slim, I could be rich! ;D Sign me up for a couple of those! He is one of my all time heroes. Same here, I've always been a big fan of ol' TR. Anyways, while I'm here I might as well ask, how do your US Wings jackets compare with your Wested? Do you find you prefer one over the other in terms of looks, comfort, fit, durability, or any of that fun stuff? I've never owned or seen a Wings jacket myself, but I've seen some over the years that have looked awfully nice, those two included. -GCR

I've never owned or seen a Wings jacket myself, but I've seen some over the years that have looked awfully nice, those two included. -GCR The US wings Goat is easier to wear, more room to move in, etc. I do not like the gloss of the leather (I will dull it soon) or the sharpness of the zipper or the cheesy pull for that matter. I do like the big pockets and they are easy to get in and out of. It is the Perfect length, but the Wested yoke and action pleats I like more. The wested cow hide honestly feels like a true custom. I know, it is supposed to, but here is what I do not like about it. It is too damn short. I told Wested in my specs my height 6'2" plus as well as requested a Tall cut. The leather has rubbed to a pink hue on the collar, yoke and storm flap where my seat belt rubs-------I do not think that it should have done this the first 30 days, but some would think it is cool due to distressing. I call it poorly dyed leather. My right pocket has already popped too----I am scared to use it much due to poor seams, etc. It popped while putting my wallet in it at the airport. Also, I will always give every measurement an extra inch in the future. It does some time make me think I am wearing a bell hop coat!. I love the grain of the leather on the Wested, but hate the left hand zipper. (asked and was promised traditional American, BTW, what is wrong with the euro group, Metrics and left hand zippers ;D) I have always felt like the jacket when zipped looks lie it is sitting on the shelf of my ass and Lord knows i do not need to draw any more attention there ;D ;D (Mid age sucks) the US hits me mid back pocket which is the right fit. I like Wested, but I honestly can not say that the jacket fits as good as it should. Wested does make great side vents and pleats. So in closing, I like them both but for different reasons. I think that the US wings will hold up better though.

Hi Cowboy -- That jacket looks great to me. It's nearly making me regret spending over $400 for a G&B Expo! Before I ordered the G&B, I was about to invest in a US Wings goat and save quite a bit of $$ in the process. But, I was concerned about the sizing and fit. Anyway, the jacket is great and I agree with others, I really like that hat. I also agree about TR. What an interesting guy. Steve

Hey, Cowboy. I can't seem to zoom in on the pics you posted above. From what I can see the hat looks great. I'm glad to hear that you got a good deal and a great jacket from US Wings. I almost bought one when I was first looking for an Indy jacket but I just wasn't sure about them. Over at the other site at the time everyone was pushing the Wested and I was getting mixed signals about the US Wings jacket so I opted to save up and get the Wested. I also at the time thought from the pics that US Wings jackets looked a bit to thick and were a bit heavier. From what I've heard from other owners that doesn't seem to be the case. When I saw the clearance sale I was tempted to go back and order one but I thought to myself IF I'm going to get a second Indy jacket for myself I'd rather just wait and order one from Todd once I get the cash. I love my Wested and my only real complaint is how it drapes. The leather just doesn't seem to want to relax and I've had it for 2 years and I wear it everywhere.

Pitfall, What else have you done to the jacket besides wear it? I wear the heck out of my jacket too, but I've also done a fair amount of distressing to it but it's butter soft. It's so soft it feels like it would melt in the sun, it's that broken in. Of course the short list of things I've done to it include: Acetone Sandpaper Wearing it to bed Wearing it in the pouring rain Tumbling in the dryer Never hanging it up, always just tossing it on the floor Of course, my jacket is lamb, not goat...I wonder if that makes that much of a difference?

Winston, I haven't done everything to my jacket that you've done to yours but I haven't been babying it. Part of it has to be the hide. I think Goat is a lot tougher to break down than the lamb and I believe lambskin is a lot softer right off the bat anyway.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks that Indy jackets go great with big western hats. I typically wear my Indy jacket and other clothes with western style hats. It's just what a grew up with. Fedoras just don't feel right to me (or look good with my fat head and big ears). Sometimes I have to chuckle when I hear people refer to the Indy fedora as such a big hat or a wide brim hat. Where I come from, a wide brim means 4 inches or more.

If you do not mind my asking, what blocks and brim size do you both wear for your Cowboy Hats? I am trying to break mine in so it don't look like a newbie If you can, post them. Winstonwolf359---- Does it bother you to have the elbow seam on your USW? I don't, as I can't even tell that it is there when I am wearing it.

Actually, no, not one bit really. I think the back panel width and the overall length are bigger issues to me.

Hey Cowboy! Come down to Las Cruces, NM. A buddy of mine owns a HUGE ranch that includes (among many other mountain ranges) the mountain range that gave Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders their name. "The Rough and Ready Mountains" belong to Billy at the Corralitos Ranch, and you can pick from a large selection of horses and mules to ride up there and check out the ancient petroglyphs. If you or anyone else is i interested, I have pictures from my last visit. Sorry to threadjack!!!! Love the jacket and the hat!

Great looking jacket cowboy - and I really dig the hat!

Since we seem to be discussing jackets and hats, let me answer Cowboy's question about my brims and what bash I wear. I wear what some people call the Roy Rogers bash. It's a pinch front, C-crown which was common back in the 40's and 50's but not seen much in western hats today. The brim is 3.5 but could be a bit larger or smaller. I like that style because it's remenicent of the old western serials but isn't truly accurate to the old West itself. Putting a wide grosgrain ribbon on a western hat really sets it off. If you want to explore some great western styles, check out randhats.com.
