Congrats on finally getting your crystal skull PH! It looks really cool and the timing was nice as well. It looks like it's made from acrylic, would that be your guess as well? Falcon - hopefully you'll be able to pick up your skull today, and will be equally happy with it. I never thought I would say that. Congrats again on a fine purchase, Ken

Thanks, RB.......It's definitely worth the $120 I paid for it as far as I'm concerned. I'm not sure what it's made out of....my guess would be acrylic. It's pretty heavy and it sorta feels like glass. You could definitely hurt someone if you hit them in the head with it.

Hey PH,
Try setting your Crystal Skull a couple of feet from a wall, turn off the lights, and shine a laser pointer at the front of it. It's a pretty cool effect!

Hey PH, Try setting your Crystal Skull a couple of feet from a wall, turn off the lights, and shine a laser pointer at the front of it. It's a pretty cool effect! OOh......I'll have to try that. I was out looking for a light display stand for it last night and I'm stumped as to where to look for one. I found one but it was to small......I believe. The skull feels like a paper weight and I think it would have crushed this little stand. I'd like to find one here in town. I'm kinda sick of having to order stuff and wait for it.......that seems like all I've been doing. ;D

Those are some great pics, Harry! Both the skull and the display stand look really cool. I have to say, I like that crystal skull you picked up quite a bit. I might have to get one myself once I have some extra funds. How much did you pay for it again? -GCR

I might have to get one myself once I have some extra funds. How much did you pay for it again? -GCR Thank you. I paid around $122 for the skull and it took about a month to get here. The base I just got out at the mall here in town for $12.75. I was actually lucky to find one at all. Finding places that carry lighted display bases for crystals isn't as easy as you might think. I really didn't want to order one online because most of the ones I found that I liked were also from overseas and that would have cost me more money than I wanted to spend on something like that. The base my skull is sitting on is rectangular so the skull is sitting on it length wise. They did have smaller circular bases that rotated but I wasn't sure if it would fit. The one cool thing about the other display base was that they had multi colored lights in them and they were only $6. I *may* go buy one of those too. I'll just have to wait and see. By the way these bases can either be plugged in OR you can put batteries in them and carry them with you.

Congrats on finding a light base that would fit the skull well in terms of size and shape. Most people would probably think a round base would be best, but as you well know.... that's not the shape of a skull on the bottom side.
I think the acrylic tends to give off a blue glow by itself, but you should be able to still mix and match some colors with that and get some cool results. Maybe even some interesting patterns on the colored plastic material would be cool. An art/craft store might have some options, though I'm sure that's what you already had in mind.

Thanks, Blues. Yeah, it is a little weird. When I first started looking at bases I was looking for a circular one but then I realized that the skull isn't really as round as it looks. It's longer than it is wide. I actually thought I was stuck going with a circular base if I bought one here in town because that's all I could find. Then this little glass and crystal shop opened up for the holidays at the local mall and they had the rectangular bases so I went with that. As far as the "blue glow" goes that's totally from the light base. The lights in that aren't really a basic white. It's almost like the color of the car lights you see on the newer vechicles out on the road. You know......the ones that nearly blind you when they're coming at you on the road. ;D I'm working part-time at a Hobby Store so I figured it should be easy for me to find some little thin strips of different colord plastic to use. It may or may not work.......it's hard to say. I want to also see what kind of an effect a black light has on it.....

Oh I knew the strong blue in those pics was from the light. I just meant that the acrylic tends to give off a slightly blue tint in anything but natural sunlight. The shots I did recently of mine were done with a yellow based flashlight, which offset the blue somewhat. Regardless of what color it looks, it will certainly do the trick. Ken

Bryan, I believe the ones with the jaw that open like Ken owns are loose and would hang open IF you carried it around by holding onto the top of it. That was one of the things I was wondering before I went and bought the one I own now. I prefer the ones with the jaw that doesn't open but that's my own personal taste.

Thank you, Corellia. Yeah, I need to try a few things with that stand. I've just been busy with other stuff. I don't have any daylight shots yet but I can shoot some later on today.

I own two crystal skulls that I bought over a year ago. One is a solid, one piece design and the other has a moveable jaw. The moveable jaw is loose and would hang completely open if you weren't holding it shut when you pick it up. That's one of the reasons I prefer the one piece design. If you do decide to buy any kind of crystal skull, be sure to check out some of the sites listed here: indylounge.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=props&action=display&thread=1155831543Hopefully you'll find something you like at a price you are willing to pay. If you find something you like better elsewhere, please share the link so we can add it to the list for other people to use too. Happy skull hunting, Ken
