Thanks Pitfall.. and KT, your skull (well not yours but you know...) looks pretty cool as well! KT, I completely forgot that you mentioned looking for a way to put a light inside yours. That lead to PH saying he planned to try some shots with a light under his, which made me think to do the same. I had shined lights on them before for pics, but hadn't gotten around to doing some with a light under them. So, I'm sorry I left you out of the original post. Actually PH, the moveable jaw skull looks like the one it's modeled after, the "Mitchell-Hedges" find. Regardless of which style anyone prefers, it doesn't look as good as the other one does in person. I believe the one you ordered is made of the same acrylic, as it looks the same in pictures to me. Wow, KT that looks really cool. Man, this is making it hard to wait for mine. ;D Blues, you might be right. I wish there was someone else that owned the same one I ordered so I could see how it looks in real life. Since it's going to be awhile until I get mine. I guess Falcon should get his before I get mine but that's still a couple of weeks away. I was *thinking* about ordering the 3 inch tall version of the skull you own RB that the mouth doesn't open. It would be for my son so he could carry it around with him on Halloween. ;D

To me it looks like the one with the movable jaw is closer to the real "Skull of Doom" when it comes to the lighting. If you watch the video the real skull does seem to be really clear in a few of the shots of it. I'm hoping my skull will end up being a merger of these two. The realistic look with the very clear casting. ah-HA -that's what I said. The real "skull of doom" doesn't look that hazy and it's definitely made of real crystal. And the real "skull of doom" has a removable jaw.

It's not an issue of "real" versus fake... There allegedly are 13 ancient crystal skulls worldwide which some say have mystical powers and are of uncertain ancient origin. Each one looks different in design, origin, varies in size, and type of material it's made from. There is no single skull said to have anything over the others, they are just different.

Ok, maybe I should have chosen my words better when I said "real" skull of doom. and I know that there are more than one "real" crystal skull. All I meant was, I have a feeling the one that's going to be used in Indy 4 is going to be modeled after the famous "Mitchell-Hedges" skull. I know I can't prove it, but it seems to be the most well-known crystal skull and that's why I think it will be the basic model they will design from. It probably won't look exactly the same, but I think it will be close to that model. I do like the look of both skulls you have, RB. But I think the one in KOTCS will look more like the one with the movable jaw. -and I might be dead wrong! ;D I guess we'll just have to wait till May 08. btw, KT, that blue light looks crazy cool in your skull!!! -Snakes

Got ya.... I understand what you mean now.
There's no telling which way they will go with the crystal skull, so it may very well turn out to be modeled after that one. With the locations we know they are using, I would guess the skull to be of Mayan origin. They might choose to tie in to existing tales or just made up their own for more plot control. Either way, it should be interesting as I like the idea of seeing more Indiana Jones events take place in jungles. The Mitchell-Hedges skull was unearthed in the Mayan city of Lubaatun in 1927... so it very well could be the angle they take.
I bought mine in the summer of 2006 and had no idea that they would even think about making them part of the storyline for Indy 4. I liked it being part of the Max McCoy Indy novels and thought they would make a cool, less obvious artifact to display. I guess that part is gone now, but having over a year head start on owning one is nice. Hopefully they won't jack the prices up at these places when the movie hits, though it seems likely for a style similar to what they end up using.

It's definitely gonna be Mayan, if you look at the set pics of the studios, and the locations where they're shooting. -that IS really cool and I'm kind of jealous that you got one way before anybody knew they'd be in the plot. When you bought yours, I wish I could go back in time to say, "You have chosen... wisely". ;D -Snakes

I wish I could claim to have had inside knowledge or the ability to see into the future and predict a crystal skull would play a part in the movie. However, if I had such powers.... I can assure you I would not have wasted them on this! ;D

Well, now that you have a crystal skull, you should have those powers, right?! ;D ;D ;D Now you can use it for the good of mankind. Or use it for personal gain. -Snakes

Yeah, it wouldn't be wise for anyone to go around claiming any of these skulls are SA. At this point we don't know at all. I've got a feeling there's going to be more than one in the film. When I ordered my skull SA wasn't even on my mind. I choose it because of my own personal tastes and I'm hoping when they say it's hand crafted and modeled after a real human skull that it looks like one. I'm more interested in it being creepy and how it will look in pictures more than anything else. That doesn't mean that I don't think all of the skulls aren't cool though. Each of them is unique in it's own way and I think that's really neat. I mean with the Idol you were stuck with only one look......with the skulls it's a little bit different.
