In view of the ongoing rumours... and the fact that they are cool! Can anyone remind me of where you got those nice crystal skulls a little while back?

That's cool, thank you. Should have looked . I tried a search but didn't realise you had to set the "in the last x days" and it came up blank. Any one seen the 'ET' Skull? The picture on the site is broken.

No problem at all. Do you mean "ET" as in Spielberg's little friend? Now that would be a creepy skull! I'm assuming you're referring to a skull on the Pushing Daisies website, but at this particular job... I can't roam as freely onto pages with lots of pics, so I can't check it out. Ken

Ken LOL not Spielberg style ET but yes big eyes but with a pointy chin! I'm thinking of getting the more stylised version, and for once the shipping is quite reasonable . (I'm tempted by the canopic vases too).

I'm glad you resurrected this thread. I've always wanted one of those Skulls and I think now that I've got the cash to spend I'm going to finally order one.

Yey, my Paris skull arrived. I's pretty cool, it comes with a coarse sackcloth bag and is quite a good size. One thing to note is it has a hole bored right through it to hold a candlestick (I suppose). (The hole may yet not be a bad thing). I paid $16 in shipping but I notice that the vendor actually paid $39.60, so i think they may have lost out on the deal! Anyway coupla pics for ya!

Cool one KT! I remember seeing that one as well when I bought the two I have. The one of mine that has the moveable jaw shares many of the same features as yours.
From what I have read, the Paris skull was put on a stake that ran through the hole from top to bottom. The hole on yours is definitely good for candles (like you said), but does the hole go all the way through too?
BTW, mine also came with the cool cloth sack and a box that had Mayan maps and images on it.

That is very cool. I've been trying to decide which one I'm going to order.
RB, hows the one with the movable jaw holding up? Is it really loose or can you pick it up without the jaw dropping open?
I'm leaning toward that one because it's a little clearer than the other one you own. I figured if the jaw became to much of a problem I'd glue it shut with a little bit of super glue.

The jaw falls completely open unless held shut. I gave it to my son to play with, though he keeps everything in great shape, so it looks like new. I don't like the fact that it's clearer, since real crystal skulls are not clear at all. Most are carved from quartz and are hazy looking.

Ah, crap.......that's what I was worried about. Well, then maybe I'll just buy the one you got or one like Kt's. I thought *maybe* of the jaw got loose over time I'd glue it but I'm not going to mess with it if it's going to do that right out of the box. Besides, since it's so clear you might be able to see the little bits of glue and then that would look like crap. ;D

Hi ken, Yes, the hole goes tight the way through, maybe I can get spear to put through it, did the Hovitos have spears? I'm toying with the idea of suspending a tritium light inside it and sealing it in with clear resin for that unearthly glow. .

That idea for your Skull sounds pretty cool, Kt.

I like the idea of the lit skull as well. PH, here is a shot I posted in the first skull thread last year. This one shows how the jaw just falls when not supported on the skull you asked about: For those who might catch this and wonder why I have moss on my shoulder, inside my house! These were shots I was taking for a PS Adventure scene. The one I did use was posted in my first reply to KT in this thread, and features my favorite of the two skulls. Ken Ken

Railok, that is the same skull RB has. The one that the jaw doesn't open. Only this skull is a smaller version of that. RB's skull is 5 inches tall. I've searched the net for like two weeks now and most of the skulls I've run across are the same ones Blues owns. The only difference is that some of them are selling for more and some are selling for less. store.halloweentownstore.com/page/HS/CTGY/002dHere's another place offering the same skulls. The one you found is the small one.

You might be able to find a better deal elsewhere......maybe not. It's hard to say. The shipping rates are what's going to hurt your wallet in the long run. That's what killed me when I ordered that hand made one over in my thread. I'm sure that guy can be trusted and that is a good skull. I'd just add up what it's all going to cost you before you go and bid on it. Like I said there *might* be a better deal out there for you. The "key" things to look for when it comes to those skulls is the height and the "cracked marks" running on top and around the sides of the skull. Other skulls I've seen don't have that. That's something "unique" to the one RB owns. At least as far as I've seen.

I also got one of the skulls with the movable jaw. I posted some pics in Harry's thread: "Just ordered my very first Indy prop!" Btw, I didn't have a problem with the jaw. In fact I think it's more likely to be pretty SA when the film comes out based on that youtube video about mayan skulls. but that's just my opinion. -Snakes

Here are a few more pics of the two skulls I have, using the light from beneath trick PH mentioned this past week: Skull # 1 - More human in shape and a bit hazier like natural crystal: Skull #2 - Moveable jaw. Shaped after the famous "Mitchell-Hedges" crystal skull and clearer like a polished crystal ball: I think both look great, along with the Paris skull KT bought and many other variations. As mentioned in PH's thread, we have no idea what the skull(s) in the movie will look like, but having a few different versions can't be a bad thing can it? I hope these shots help someone make a better purchasing decision. Ken

You have chosen... wisely.
Ok, I had to do it. No choice really, just had to.
It's nice to see a prop idea like this come to life, because there are already many choices.... and for the most part, they are really inexpensive. Who would have thought that in this hobby?
BTW, Pitfall.... they do look pretty good with a light underneath. I think you'll enjoy doing the same with yours when it arrives. I took these while on the phone with John, only minutes before posting them. So, it's not like they need alot to look cool.
Thanks for the compliments GCR,
Ken
