So the Green Lantern is coming out next summer. Ryan Reynolds plays Hal Jordan. Jordan finds a crashed space ship in the middle of nowhere. Inside is an alien who gives Jordan a ring, now making him the Green Lantern! I saw the trailer and it looks cool, but then... www.cracked.com/blog/why-new-green-lantern-movie-looks-so-familiar/What do you guys thing? -Josh

I did see the trailer as a young boy i loved the Green Lantern BUT now bare with maybe because I'm getting older but most movies Hollywood is putting out these days are just so cheesy bad acting and poor dialog kinda like Crystal Skull it just seem to me that they make movies nowa days for today's teens . So i just don't get excited about movies anymore they just ruin them just one opinion OH and one other thing that just burns why is it that when they make SUPER HERO flicks the number# selling point for movie that alot of small kid's are going want to watch is sex :'(these shows aren't for kid's! Hollywood is a mind corrupter not cool

Hollywood is a mind corrupter not cool NOT COOL AT ALL. There was a sex scene in the new Star Trek movie, a really stupid one. The Lost in Space remake never came close to the amount of sex that the new Star Trek had. Just Don hitting on Judy and failing. More things are targeted for young adults than anything else! Steven

There was a sex scene in the new Star Trek movie, a really stupid one. I don't know if you watched the original Star Trek, but Captain Kirk boinked just about any alien with boobs. They were a little more subtle but always suggestive. I thought the scene in the new Star Trek was funny. Not graphic as much as silly. I do agree, however, when Hollywood takes classic movies or TV shows and turns them into big budget films, they tend to gear them more toward teenagers. More than the sex, I find they dumb them down A LOT. I miss the days when filmmakers were allowed to bypass the Hollywood execs' need to reiterate obvious plot points. Oh well... Green Lantern looks... decent, but I try not to expect much out of movies today. More often than not, they disappoint. -Josh

very very true. but you appearently have to "attract the audience" as film makers say. we kinda dont want to see humping dogs on a transformers epic. not to mention Megan Fox... yikes. yeah shes pretty but she cant act to save her life. Ryan Reynolds looks like the perfect fit for the Lantern

like in the A-Team movie i read it was a bit dirty and was for an older audience, but the TV show was for all ages (I used to watch them all the time on TV land or something like that) I believe They wanted Mr.T to make a cameo but he said it wasn't for the whole family and didn't have the cleanness like the TV series. And truth is I don't think megan fox is that hot

Lol. Josh is right, the O.G. star trek had lots of suggestive things. But the Animation in the green lantern looks so cheesy... i look at the CG in transformers and wonder why every movie cant have those kind of effects (not withstanding budget constraints).

I think the one thing most of us here are missing is that it's a GOOD thing that these movies aren't being aimed at kids! It was the entire idea that comics (and by extension, Superheroes) were only for kids that made the years before Batman so hard on us comics-fans! Kids can watch the movies, sure! But they SHOULD be aimed at a higher common denominator! As for sex and violence, well, this is the 21st century, I don't think we can pretend that it's not something we all do anymore... No need for that, sex is just sex, and the sooner we all grow up and approach it as such, the sooner we'll lose the childish approach to serious discussion when it's raised... It's just sex... And we've all done it.. The WORST use of sex in a superhero movie was in Superman Returns... When it was revealed that Supes had a kid.... Just... Dumb... But that's all..
I love the new Batman movies... The Spiderman one's worked too, Iron Man rules, and the Hulk was cool as anything! I think the reason that these films are so much better than they were is because the technology and the approach to adult-understanding and sensibilities is far better addressed in modern movies! It's a VERY good thing to see in my opinion..
People like Frank Miller make such good graphic novels because they embraced the idea that kids were NOT the main readers of the books they wrote... And because of that the entire industry grew up immensely... I am glad to see movies do the same thing with the characters I love... It makes the films a lot more intelligent in my personal opinion...
All the best..

The Green Lantern doesn't really interest me, but from what I know about the "popular culture" surrounding comic books, etc. it tends to be the older (read: 16+) audience that are engaged in them more, rather than the originally intended younger child audience. As such, the film-makers are rightly putting in more adult themes, and as Ben has said, this means putting in things like sex and drugs abuse - they're just part and parcel of 21st century adult life nowadays People that complain "this movie is too graphic!" should really check out where the film is targetted at in relation to its primary audience, and understand that it's probably *not* children, as they first expect. This is particularly so with the case of the new Star Trek movie - Star Trek was never intended to be a "kids show", but a family show, and as such dealt with themes that ranged up to fully mature, adult themes (such as sex, etc.). And as the old adage goes - if you don't like it, don't watch it

Well said Stargate.... I think the whole thing is a development process...Our attitudes to sex and violence have changed dramatically (and will change again I'm sure) over the last twenty or so years, and I don't happen to think it's in any way a bad thing...These processes are natural life...And although one might not WISH to watch it, there is ALWAYS a choice, and you can simply chose NOT TO if it offends you....That's important..
The best storylines (In both comics and movies actually) for me are ones where the hero is conflicted...Where they defeat SERIOUS odds and beat that darkness (either their own or the enemies) by overcoming it..In comics, this is shown very well by Frank Millers "The Dark Knight Returns" series, and the Iron Man "Demon in a Bottle" series too...Both highly charged, dealing with drugs, sex and pain, and eventually the OVERCOMING of that darkness by the hero...I think it is by watching these films (or reading these books) that we can learn to use the actions done by the heroes to help our OWN souls....And that means dealing with the things we may face in our own lives...(Not Kryptonite...But alcohol, for example)..It's a great thing to see, and makes the reading or watching far more powerful...
I think the industries in question are both in a process of growing up, and the audience HAS to be expected to be pushed, both in the comprehension and emotionally in order to connect with the project...It's part of what happens when we accept that real life can hurt as well as give us Father Christmas and amazing love stories..It's all part of that process...And one that I think modern film-makers shy away from at their peril..
I love the process..And where it's headed..

Well said yourself! I'd whole-heartedly agree with your sentiments, and it's that kind of film-making that I like to see - something that really pushes the audiences emotions, and their ability to perceive the constructed environment in the movie. It's all well and good seeing something that's "fun" or a laugh, but sometimes you need to see something that's going to make you walk out of the cinema and go "Hmm, I'd not thought about that before!" Hopefully the Green Lantern will be more along the lines of great modern superhero films like Batman Begins, and Iron Man, rather than sloppy jobs like "Fantastic Four" or "X-Men Origins"

Yeah...I like that feeling...Being challenged to understand what the film is about rather than being fed it while drooling vacantly...Much better experience...Same for TV shows actually...Stuff like "The Wire" is FAR more challenging to watch because it DOESN'T dumb anything down for us, we have to step UP to meet it, and that's where REAL growth comes in...Agreed..
As for "Green Lantern"....I think GL's real problem is always going to be that he's Hal Jordan...As Batman says (in "All-Star Batman and Robin)
"This guy really GRINDS MY GEARS. Here he's got a POWER RING that can do ANYTHING he can IMAGINE-- But that's his whole PROBLEM. He's got the IMAGINATION of a d**n POTATO. He makes giant green FISHING POLES and MOUSETRAPS when he could, well.....He can't even make himself a green DANDELION with that RING of his if what he's up against is YELLOW. Dumbest WEAKNESS I ever HEARD of..."
Green Lantern is one of the heroes that doesn't really NEED to have a deep storyline, because he can literally DO ANYTHING....Like Superman (Although recently DC have done some great work on challenging him again), the only REAL problem Hal Jordan needs to fight is how utterly moronic Hal Jordan can be...Which might not make the most interesting movie...
But we'll see I reckon!

Well with GL opening Friday, I think it may be better than my initial impression. I am not a fan of the costume looking like Slim Goodbody, you know that creepy dude from science class in grade school that was wearing a leotard with muscles printed on it. But aside from that, I think they will actually have Hal doing some cool stuff with the ring instead of just the giant green punching glove he was so fond of for so long. Kilowog was always one of my favorite in the GL corps, so I am optimistic.
