Spielberg Says Indy 5 is Not for Right Nowwww.theraider.net/news/fullstory_indy4.php?id=1008After accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2009 Gold Globe Ceremonies, Steven Spielberg took a few minutes to speak with writers from the cable channel, ReelzChannel, and here is what he said about Indy coming back: 10:22 PM: Backstage Steven Spielberg is asked whether he might consider revisiting any of his characters again. "Visit them again?" asks Spielberg. "You mean like bring them out of mothballs? Not really. Some day there may be another Indiana Jones. George and I have had a couple of conversations about 'What If?' we made another Indiana Jones film, but right now we aren't in the position to do that."
Keep your fingers crossed Indyfans that maybe that position for Indy's return might arise soon. Until then, we have Indy novels, video games and comics to keep us in the world of adventure.Ken

This may be for the best.

It looks to me as if Spielberg had a chance to fully digest what they did to the Indy franchise with KOTCS, and is having second thoughts about continuing on. I agree with Havana that this may be for the best, given the amount of care they put into Indy 4.
Maybe by saying "Some day there may be another Indiana Jones", he is talking about another actor playing the role... most likely in adventures that occured after the Young Indy Chronicles, but before Temple Of Doom. That sort of move would easily explain why they were using a different actor and allow them to get out of the historical timeline that wound in (1950s), by waiting so long to make a fourth movie.
Who knows?

See, I'm stuck in a quandry with this one. If Spielberg has had a chance to digest the true ramifications of KOTCS and what it did to the Indy franchise as a whole, I would sincerely hope that he would be MORE enthused about creating a fifth Indy film, merely for the sake of delivering a sequel on a level somewhere close to the original trilogy of Indy films. If he realized that KOTCS was a mistake (or should I say realized where they made mistakes with KOTCS), then I'd like to see him get together with George and try to work out the details for a fifth-and final-Indy film that gives such a great character the kind of story (and send-off) he deserves (Real locations, less CGI, no UFOs or wedding chapels, etc.)
BUT, allow me to propose another possible motive for Spielberg downplaying a possible Indy 5. Maybe he wasn't unhappy with the way the KOTCS itself turned out, instead, he could be disappointed by the overwhelmingly mixed reception the film got, especially among the core Indiana Jones fanbase. There are plenty of "Indy fans" who genuinely disliked KOTCS, so maybe Spielberg, after proclaiming that KOTCS was truly "for the fans", feels a bit put off by the mixed reception Indy 4 got and isn't interested in doing another one anytime soon (or at all)?
I don't know...I'm torn between the side of me that wants them (GL & SS) to just leave the Indy series alone and move on to other things, and the side of me that wants them to wise up to what a disappointment KOTCS was and get to work on a sequel that will live up to the greatness of the original trilogy.

I'm with GCR on this one. I would love to see Indy get the send off he deserves, like Rocky did in Rocky Balboa, and even the new Rambo. Not the greatest films in the world, but damn if they didn't give proper respect to the characters.
On that note, I don't think it is possible for Spielberg OR Lucas to pull this off. Lucas is too smug that his ideas are "end all be all", and Spielberg has come a long way from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Mike

I really want to see another Indy film, but I just think George Lucas needs to stay out of it. Let's face it, he has had some really bad ideas recently. Also, I think Steven Spielberg has relied too much on CGI and needs to go back to his roots. SS used to have some kind of special way to tell a story, like in Close Encounters and E.T. It made watching the movies interesting. You felt like you were a part of the story instead of just watching it. To do that is truly something special and SS really needs to find that touch he has since lost.

I don't think that post is appropriate. We're all entitled to our own opinions, and we don't have the right to persecute other people because of their own opinions. Heck, that's why America was founded in the first place!
We didn't say that Indy should be executed. We still have Raiders, Temple, and Crusade. For the fans that don't like Crystal Skull and are skiddish about a fifth one, more films are not necessary.

Not to worry... indyfangav has just been banned. It's one thing to disagree and quite another to tell people they suck for having a differing opinion.
I left the post so anyone wondering would know the sort of attitudes we don't have time for around here.

The Big 3 should have been spanked for this auto pilot release. HF should take the biggest blame IMO. I thought he had better judgement. I also could not stand the bad actor who played his son. It sickens me.

I actually didn't like LC when I first saw it, but that was before my dad died. Now it's by far my favorite of the sequels. I have a very hard time watching the "Indiana, let it go." scene without getting very emotional.
