Marvel Studios Sets Four More Release Dates! www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=44654Marvel Entertainment released their first quarter report to its shareholders this morning to coincide with the announcement about the success this past weekend of Marvel Studios' first production Iron Man, which grossed an estimated $104.2 million domestically and over $201 million worldwide.
The announcement included an update of Marvel Studios' feature film slate with the already-rumored Iron Man 2 announced for a release on April 30, 2010, followed by three more movies for the summers of '10 and '11. Matthew Vaughn's Thor is set for a release on June 4, 2010, and The First Avenger: Captain America (the working title) will kick off the summer of 2011 on May 6, followed by the highly-anticipated and foreshadowed The Avengers scheduled for July 2011. (Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is also listed as being in development with no release date set.)
In a conference call this morning, Marvel Studios' David Maisel said that Iron Man 2 will be used to introduce Thor. Regarding more "Hulk" movies, Maisel said "We definitely plan on continuing." He added that development continues on Spider-Man 4. "I can't give any other updates other than to say it's in development and everybody's excited about 'Spider-Man 4,'" he said.
With that in mind, one can start expecting a lot more announcements in the coming months about creative teams and casting for those movies including who might direct the Captain America and Avengers movies. (Whomever plays Steve Rogers AKA Captain America presumably will be making two movies at once.)Ken

That looks promising! I'm not to keen on introducing Thor thru Iron Man II though. I think that Iron Man is best utylized in a tech related world, as opposed to a world of gods, magic and mysticism. I'm kinda Spider-man'd out. I loved Spider-man II, but stopped watching after that. Captain America would be kinda sweet if done well. I get nervous with team movies though. X-men came off real well, but Avengers and Justice League properties don't excite me to much. I will remain cautiously optimistic.

Hmmm.......I really hope they don't make the entire plot of Iron Man 2 revolve around Thor............Iron Man 2 needs to focus on Iron Man and his world. Maybe have a subtle sub-plot going on but don't make Iron Man take a backseat in his own series.
If you've seen Iron Man already then you'll know that RDJ is just terrific as Tony Stark and I want to see more of him and how he deals with this new life as a hero.
I'm just afraid that Marvel's going to mess all of this up if they get to ahead of themselves. Their new studio is off to a great start I'd hate to see that fall apart.

Captain America was my favorite comic hero growing up. The first comic I ever bought was a Captain America. I hope they really do him justice with this movie. Lately Marvel has really turned my off Captain America comics. They became to dark for my taste.

Lately Marvel has really turned my off Captain America comics. They became to dark for my taste. If ya really want be turned off Captain America, might I suggest the 1991 film starring Matt Salinger? A visually stunning extravaganza of biblical proportions..it was craptastic!! Personally, my guilty pleasure has always been the 2 Captain America TV movies from the mid 70's starring Reb Brown and Connie Selecca (and Christopher Lee in the 2nd one). ;) enjoy!!

Captain America is an odd choice. Iron Man made exactly the same overseas as domestic $100m, Captain America cannot hope to.
In a similar way that Justice League (of America) was considered box office suicide (and dropped) Captain America would be seen in the same light overseas. They would have to find a suitable spin on it to succeed or seriously limit their box office take.
This is not an anti American statement form me, it's just being realistic.

Captain America would best be portrayed in his original WWII anti-Nazi context. That was his high point. Marvel Studios is off to a great start but there are also other Marvel properties coming out from other studios such X-Men Origins: Wolverine and possibly another Fantastic 4 sequel. They do need to take care and not over saturate the market.

Marvel to Film Next Four Films at Raleigh Studios www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=49444As Marvel Studios, a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, Inc., powers up to begin production on its next highly anticipated slate of films, the studio has made an agreement with Raleigh Studios to film each of Marvel's next four films at Raleigh's facility in Manhattan Beach, CA. The four projects to be produced at the studio facility over the next three years include Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America, The Avengers. Keeping these four major tent pole film productions in Southern California allows the studio access to outstanding crews and resources and makes Marvel the largest tenant on the Raleigh lot. Additionally, Marvel Studios will move its Beverly Hills-based executive and production offices to Raleigh's facility in Manhattan Beach.
"In making this deal with Raleigh to produce our upcoming films at the Manhattan Beach Studios, we are most excited about keeping our film production here in California and taking advantage of the best crews in the Los Angeles area," stated Louis D'Esposito, Marvel's President of Physical Production. "All of our production partners on these upcoming films have been incredibly accommodating in terms of their creativity and financial structures, allowing us to remain in California. Raleigh Studios has long been known for the superior quality of its film production facilities and we know that Manhattan Beach will be the ideal location to produce our movies to the highest standards that our fans expect."
"We are thrilled that we were able to find a way to make this deal work for Marvel," said Michael Moore, Raleigh Studios President. "We could not have asked for a greater compliment than having a quality company like Marvel put their faith in us to provide a home for its film productions."
The Marvel live action releases to be filmed at Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios are scheduled to arrive in theaters beginning in 2010 and going through 2011. Specifically the release dates are Iron Man 2 on May 7, 2010; Thor on July 16, 2010; The First Avenger: Captain America on May 6, 2011; and The Avengers on July 15, 2011.
Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios first opened for operations during 1998. This studio consists of 14 sound stages on 22 acres with an additional 300,000 square feet of office and support space. As a result of this venture, Raleigh Studios along with its sister company Hollywood Rentals, are now the largest operator of independent film studio facilities and production services in North America.Ken
