Is it just me, or are all the modern Indy Jackets about 1-2 inches too short? Besides TOD, I can not see Indy wearing it that short. If you use the waist worn at different positions, that does not wash with the ASS test, i.e. the waist/pockets can change but the ASS don't!

Anyone with eyes can see that in the movies. I think that the shorter lenghts were for stunts maybe. Shorter allows for ease of movement, etc.

I'm sort of lost here,..you say besides TOD, you can't see Indy wearing a short jacket,... In Temple of Doom, his jacket is the longest length of all 3 films. Basically, people may be asking for them made too short, if that's what you are referring too. The best guage for length, besides personal preferance,...is for the jacket to reach the top of the back pockets of the pants. If you consider that too short, that's a personal opinion, but that's wear the jacket is in Raiders, AND LC. 'Blues

The jacket is based on a 30 style, just below the belt. But actually if you look at a lot of movie hero jackets they are cut really short almost at the belt. This on the trim and toned movie stars this look good and makes them look taller.
However, on a lot of us it just makes the jacket look a bit too short!
Modern fashions are kind of baggy and we are used to jackets that are in effect "too long". Anyway Blues is correct. Measure to the tops of your pants pockets for screen accuracy. But allow an extra inch or so (depending on how tall you are!) so as to look more "modern day".
Peter's "standard" cut is longer than what most people order. But he's working on a 5' 10" average.

But,I do not agree with using the pocket guage. This can vary from brand to brand and cut of pants. Can anyone show me a pic of Indy in ROTLA from behind? If anyone can, I will change my opinion. TOD is even longer cut this we know. I am just saying that it looks like most vendors still make em 1-2 inches too short. Someone prove me otherwise.

Ok, I see where you are going. Good scene from the Raven- But Man, is it just me or does the jacket look both long AND baggy in that last photo? That is the way I wish mine fit.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm convinced that Ford wore a number of different jackets while shooting of the film. There are just too many shots where the jacket looks too different for there to be any other explanation.

Hey Guys, OK, So Ive been wearing my New Wested for about a week now, and all I keep hearing from people is, ( Hey nice jacket but whys it so short? ) Then I hear, ( Is that a kids jacket? ) I don't even wanna wear it now. I mean everyone that sees me wearing it comments on it being too short right away. and Ive even had a few people laugh at how short it is. It wasn't till I took a look in the mirror that I realized they were right. So I got out the tape measurer and guess what, this jacket is even shorter than what Wested list on their site for a 40 regular, and its supposed to be a 40 regular. My jacket measures 21 inches in the front and 23 inches in the back length. Wested list 24 inches for the back of a 40 regular. Oh well Ive already worn it so I cant send it back this time. I read what KT wrote about the jacket reaching the pockets, So I looked in the mirror, and mine is above my belt, its not even close. Simply put, This jacket is an inch too short, WHY? I haven't a clue. This is still a very nice jacket, very well made very soft and a great color, I'm gonna give it to a friend and just order a Temple jacket for a longer length. I still love wested I'm just upset that the jacket doesn't fit. Sincerely, Prof.Wex

Did you order a made-to-measure jacket, or an off the rack size?

This is a really interesting topic. I think it reveals a lot about our personal tastes. Ford obviously wore multiple jackets in Raiders, most were of the shorter variety. I actually had them make my Wested Raiders an inch shorter than "normal" because I wanted that short jacket look. What passes for normal at Wested may have changed. My jacket fits perfectly and drops right to the bottom of my belt but above the pants pocket flaps which is exactly what I wanted. I'm 5'8" and 170 lbs. My jacket is short but not too short. I think the short look is true to the era. Period correct A-2's, for example, were very short by today's standards. This kept you from sitting on it in a cockpit and it also didn't interfere with carrying your gun on your waist. The same is true of cowboy style denim jackets, another favorite of mine. The true cut jackets are quite high waisted for the same reasons. It's just not a look that works on every physique and not everyone likes it. People today are accustomed to longer and more oversized items. Your jacket is too short if your belt or shirt shows when you're standing at ease.

Prof, you'll notice none of us commented that it's too short. A SA Raiders jacket will always look to short to people used to modern cuts, properly fitted A-2 will as well. Look at the first 3 pics I posted above to see how short it really can be.
If you're wearing a holster and whip it's fine.
However, if you want it longer please spec the back length to the length you want, don't ask for a TOD it just opens up another can of worms! Measure from the nape of the neck to the bottom of the jacket. That's why I alway suggest to people to give them your measures. Don't go with standard sizing if you don't have to.
I'd also ask for the pockets flaps Platon style!
EDIT: Havana said the same about the length just more eloquently!

Wex, I thought your jacket looked fine. I went back to your thread to recheck but I think you deleted the pics where you are wearing the Wested. I find it kind of odd that you had so many comments on your jacket. Especially since many people dress like they are wearing clothes twice thier size these days. This is a Wested I bought used from a COW member. It is short on me but I really like it. Cheers, G-MANN

Hey Guys,
I asked for a off the rack 40 regular on my return jacket, when i got it, I was so happy about the sleeves I didnt notice the body length, it took about 10 people in a row that saw the jacket in person sayin the jacket was too short. Standing at ease this is what you see ( The bottom of the jacket then a half inch of my shirt then my belt. The jacket dosent even cover the bottom of my shirt, If I try to kind of sloch a little I can get it to just reach my belt. Ill take some new pics to show everyone. I havent seen anyone else with this problem, just mine. My height is '5'4 inches. I just didnt notice, so its my fault for wearing it.
Sincerely, Prof.Wex

John,
Only twice their size? That's a bit conservative! My favorite look is the white t-shirt so long that wearing pants unerneath is optional! ;D Just belt it & you have a nice to-the-knee skirt! ;D ;D ~Jace

G-mann's jacket length looks perfect to me, just to the bottom of his belt line.

Hey Guys, The thing that I dont understand is that I have a old Wested forty regular in lamb and if you lay them side by side the old one is longer, and its a raiders style for sure. I guess I just need to stop listening to the comments I was getting cause I really love this Horse Hide, I can deal with the length, I just need to start telling people its a 30s style cut so they'll leave me alone about its length. I got quite a since of humor so I can deal with it. I think the back is fine but I still have some of my friends telling me its not. the original pics of me wearing it I had my shirt untucked. Sincerely, Prof.Wex

I suggest pulling your pants waaaay up, sort of like how Urkel wears them.....lol.
Just kidding. That is really weird. How tight do you have the side straps adjusted? Mike

Hey Wex.
Must have missed this in your first round of pics since it looked pretty good unzipped (with shirt untucked, etc.)
Yeah, it shouldn't be that short. Looks like you got the "Bespin" Indy there.
Wested "should" take it back (unless you provided these measurements to them specifically and this is how it came out off those specs). Unfortunately that first month of wearing it has gone by, too.
This jacket looks like the builder lost their train of thought and cut the wrong size for the front. Speculation, of course, but that jacket IS too short - even for the "shorter" Raiders.
Sending it back might be a tough hurdle due to the few weeks of wearing it.
Did you send front and back specs?

Way I see it is you have four options. 1. Sell it. 2. Make sure Wested see's pics of both jackets together and the one of you wearing it so they can see how they screwed up. 3. Burn it. 4. Give it to me so I can sell it. Seriously though, I have NO idea why sizing is such an issue with Wested. I always get a 42 R and all my jackets have been different lengths. However, they really screwed up on yours. If you have a bit of a gut (and I can't tell from the pics) you may want to order an extra inch in the front. I doubt that after they are made aware that they'd turn you down to return it. Methinks that since Peter is away they may not be on top of things like they should be, but that's just a guess. Good luck.
