I promised G-MANN earlier that I would post some pics today to update y'all on the jacket process. I've revised my patterns twice now from the version G-MANN got. I like this one, but still made a few tweaks to try on the next one. This is "prototype" 3, and it is from very drapey calf - very lightweight. It is as thin as lamb, but heavier and softer if you can believe that. I tried some shoe polish on it later, and I swear it looked like I ripped it off of Harrison's back. I'll post some pics of that later, but for now here's the jacket: After this one, the pattern areas I tweaked were the collar, the shoulder, the yoke, the back panel, the front length, and the armhole/sleeve cut. I'll see how the next one comes out, but I think I'm almost happy with it. What do you think?

I like it todd... but one question... are your pocket flaps going to stay that pointy? or are you eventually going to round them out before production??

I like where these are headed. The tri-glide doesn't look bad on there at all. In my not so concernable opinion the pocket flaps look a bit thick - but that is from my eyes and first impression only - I know there have been more in-depth methods for spec'ing those out. This jacket looks good enough that the minor details wouldn't bug me. Not as long as the seams are straight and everything's symmetrical. I really like the look of that leather, too.

Wow! That is a fine looking jacket Todd! The cut is really looking great and I'm digging those pockets too! I'm guessing that the jacket itself is a little darker brown when not in afternoon sun, which would make this one even better. I would love to see it with the show polish treatment too. Excellent work on these jackets! Ken

Y'know tone.. you're absolutely right.... i like those tri-glide sliders..I love the leather... and i`m especially ecstatic about the fact that todd is a one man Operation.. and i`ve had nothing but pleasent dealings with him in the past.... and I wouldn`t mind spending at least as much as a wested and waiting twice the amount of time for a jacket from todd, why? because I`d know for damn sure that it would be correct the first time.. So, Kudos to todd.. and may this Jacket project move in the smoothest possible way for him...
Good luck!

Wow, I really like the leather on that jacket. It just looks so soft. Actually, the entire jacket is great......screen accurate or not I think the tri-glide is better option for holding the straps in place. You'll have to post some shots of that leather in different lighting. Man, if I'm going to get another jacket it's going to be Todd's.

Just to echo what I said over at COW: Todd, I think you this new revision looks great! I really like the texture of the calf, and the somewhat worn / wrinkled appearance. Nice work! I also like the option for the sliders or tri-glides or whatever they are for the side straps and the pocket flaps, pocket size and placement look good to me as well. If you do move forward, you'd have a future customer here, that much is for sure. I'd love have another great Indy jacket to add to my collection (and to keep my Wested company in the closet during the winter season ;D ). -GCR And to add a post script to that post (a post post script?) I would also love to see some of those nifty shoepolish shots!

I have got to add, that I am impressed with one very unique aspect of your jacket, that I have yet to see in other offerings. The width of the shoulders, yoke, and the top of the back panel. I always loved the way Indys jacket looked in the Raven bar scene, and this picture here, emphasizes what I am talking about: The back area always looked wider than Harrisons Ford back actually is, which gives the coat a really great look. I also think this aids tremendously in back and sleeve movement, than just the action pleats and the gussets. If there is more material in the back, there is no way the sleeves will restrict movement. I hope this makes sense, but that is one thing that stood out in the back pic of your jacket. 'Blues

Todd,
I know you have sent me some updates via PM. However I am not sure how much of that info you want made public.
I would appreciate it if you could give the community here an update.
Thanks, John / G-MANN

Yes please!!! - I'm dying to see / read more about this jacket! It would be un-honest to say that I thought very positive of the idea of yet another Indy jacket, when I read about it the first time. I was sceptic... VERY sceptic! I just didn't see any reason for comming up with yet another one. We had two excellent choices already, plus a couple of other offerings, that... well, that I couldn't care less about. Heck, I'm not even particularly into the Indy jacket and even though I've had pretty much any Indy Fedora out there, I've only owned one Wested goatskin Raiders so far - which I've owned for 6-7 years by now. It was first when I started to put the specs. together for my next Wested, I really started to look into the details. In the end I came up with round about 4 pages, incl. a template on how I would like the cargo pockets to be. Now, I CERTAINLY wouldn't consider myself an expert on the topic. I'm just saying that I've gone over a lot of screen graps, frame stills and details lately.
What I see here, is essentially everything I came up with in my list of specs.!!! That tells me not only that you've not only copied an existing jacket, but also that you've done your own research and spent lots of hours in front of the screen, as many others have. And you've brought it all together in one single jacket. That REALLY impresses me. I know it can be very tought to overcome the sceptism of people who are not very positive about your product to start with and that you have to try even harder to please them, than those who were un-biased from the start or even better, positive minded. Well, in convincing me on the look of your jacket, you did just that.
This week I received compliments on two hats from a fellow member that had been very sceptic about my hats. I was very happy to read such positive feedback from him, as I consider him very knowledgable on everything gear related. So I hope you can just accept my compliments on the look of your jacket, without thinking of the sceptism that I had against the entire idea to start with.
Regards,
Marc

Looks like he posted a little bit of an update over at the other site in the vendor section. From what he said over there it sounds very promising. I hope things work out because I'd love to add one of his jackets to my collection.

Hey, all! Some pictures of my latest jacket were posted by it's new owner "over there", so it's time for an update on progress.
Things are moving along very slowly. I have some new people getting trained on jackets, and I'm working on the leather supply. I have a new lambskin that I am working with the tannery on. The issue is the leather texture - it runs a little too extreme from smooth to rough. I have to pick through too many hides to find good matches. And then there is wide variation on the same hide. It makes cutting dificult and very time consuming.
I do have a new calfskin (I think I mentioned it) that I like very much. I found a new treatment that really gives it the perfect look. The next jacket is from that hide and I will post pictures when it's complete.
As far as orders, I'm just taking care of my backorders right now. As soon as the issues of labor and leather supply are taken care of, I will set a price and take new orders. I don't have a time frame for that (sorry). I don't want to rush into it, and then have people disappointed with the length of the wait time.

Well, I just responded to this update "over there" and I wanted to thank you for updating us over here as well. I would jump on the back order list myself but due to my financial situation I'd have to know how much the jackets are going to cost first. So I'm just going to wait for the final price and product design.

i hope this works here....cheers folks! the right hide and texture....custom lambskin: the right size cargo pockets and the correct scalloping on the flaps: the zipper should be silver and run the entire length of the jacket without leather facings: the way the storm flap meets the collar: the correct placement of yoke and sleave seam: the correct hardware and strap orientation (at least what we have observed): reduce the typical barrel sleeve size of your typical wested and then put it all together and you have a beautifully made jacket from mr. todd coyle. todd, you are the man!: the skeptics will prey on the size of the collar, but i think its spot on to the scenes in imam's house. i really hope todd can get these jackets into mainstream production because there is no 'special requests' needed. what you see on screen is what you get i will post more pics soon when i got some clothes on. pajamas don't do justice to the way the hide drapes over you....another skill todd has in ensuring the correct hide will work for the look we want. i can't be more happy with this jacket. my search for a raiders jacket has finally ended.....just before i broke the bank  you may commence your disection

One thing concerns me,....the spacing on the left pocket(facing us) It looks too far left of the zipper. I thought the pockets were measured off the zipper, not the storm flap. 'Blues I stand corrected, after having a look at GManns ROTLA jacket screencaps. It's perfect!
