For those of you who like "Pirates of the Caribbean"... I've been gathering some Pirate props to put on display next to my "Caribbean Sea" map I got in the Caribbean last Febuary... The props are not replicas of Jack Sparrow's "effects" but close look-alikes... A spyglass/telescope...A flintlock pistol... (with no additional shots nor powder) A compass... (that actually does point North ) A Cutlass sword... ... ... ... (and you half expected it to be made of wood ! ;D)(That sword is actually the sharpest I have, a very dangerous "toy" ! ) ... No doubt the worst pirate you've ever heard of... More detailed shots of the props...The (incomplete) display... (still have to add a shelf for the spyglass and compass) O.K. it's a bit weird to diplay it under an oriental wallpaper border (the room was already decorated that way) but in fact, in "POTC At World's End" the Pirates do end-up in Singapore, so it's not that much inapropriate. Made the plaque myself... (added moldings on the sides of a wood plank, died it, added glossy wood finish and hooks) Anyone else like Pirate stuff ?

Those are some really fantastic props. They also make great decor. I like the compass especially. I'm a big pirate fan and have been since a child. I would be glued to the TV whenever some of the old Errol Flynn movies would come on like Captain Blood, The Seahawk and Against All Flags. I've always been fascinated by the Caribbean. It's so beautiful and I love any place where so many different cultures come together. And, of course, there's the rum! I enjoyed the recent Pirates films but I wish they would have toned down the fantasy and played up the swashbuckling adventure a little more.

Wow, those are cool Stefana. I think that compass is my favorite as well. It's got a very unique look to it. Did you get all of these on your trip? Or are these pieces you've aquired over the years. They look expensive.
As far as the films go I liked the addition of the "fantasy element". I love those old myths and legends having to do with sailors and the sea.
It'll be interesting to see where they head with the 4th film.

Another fine collection of props, trinkets, and weapons by Stefana! I think these items not only look the part, but also work well together. According to the novels, Indy was facinated by pirates as well (among many other things). So, in a weird little way... this interest even ties into another. We have visited Blackbeard's castle, and seen quite a few pirate infested locations on our cruises. There's quite a bit of pirate history and real places to put your boots on in the various Caribbean islands and ports. I'm sure there were some really cool items, weapons, etc... at the various places we have both visited. Did you pick anything up at a port or back home? Very nice stuff and I can see the display is going to look great! BTW, here's a link to some info about real pirates on the History Channel: www.history.com/marquees/piratesKen

Very cool collection of pirate props you have there, Stefana!!! I've always been a fan of Pirates (not necessarily PotC but the history of real historical Pirates / Privateers, etc.) and I've always wanted to display something along those lines somewhere myself. Unfortunately for me, my home office where I would keep most of that stuff isn't exactly spacious, so I only have room for a small replica flintlock pistol that I keep mounted above my desk. Someday I'll have a place with enough room for a sword or two, and some cool old maps. By the way, where did you get your map? I used to have a similar map I picked up down in the Caribbean about 12 years ago, but it burned in a fire.
Cool collection once again!

Thanks for your fine comments people ! The only item I got during the Caribbean cruise was the map... ...actually for sale at one of the boutiques aboard our own ship. They do sell them online also... [glow=red,2,300]http://www.bluewaterislands.com/store/store1.html[/glow] The sword, the compass and the spyglass were purchased thru ebay, the pistol was purchased at a local medieval store where I also got a blunderbuss pistol (bigger almost 20 inches long...muck like Barbossa's) that Indyanick and me offered our Dad for his birthday. Have you seen Cutthroat Island ? It is without the fantasy element but with as much action and humour...and Geena Davis Why, thanks !! It is my old Miller no.2, but I think it's the first time it's been photographed at that particular angle.

I finally took some time to finish my "Pirate" display by adding a shelf for the compass and spyglass... You will notice that the pistol is different from the previous pics, it's a new one I picked-up at the annual "Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France" (New-France festival) in old Québec City a couple of weeks ago. This one looks less like a decorative item and more functional and authentic, it also has a real wooden stock instead of a molded-resin one like my other pistol, wich was moved to the living room on a different-colored plaque.

Great pics, Stefana!!! I like the whole set-up you have with the shelf for the compass and spy glass! And I really like the new pistol as well! That thing DOES look more authentic. And the old pistol on display in the living room looks very nice as well, but what I REALLY like is that vintage globe! Very cool! You've got quite a great collection there, Stefana! -GCR

That's a beautiful display Stefana! You always seem to put these things together with such class. The choice of items, the way they're mounted/displayed, etc.... it even goes well with the room's overall decor. Fine job sir, Ken
