Harrison Ford Would Do Another Indiana Jones 'In a New York Minute' www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=110044Although he says he's not yet sure if he wants a role in Star Wars: Episode VII or not, Harrison Ford told Graham Norton (via Metro) that he'd do Indiana Jones 5 film "in a New York minute".
"I don't think there is any barrier to Indiana Jones being an old fart," Ford says, "...I'm old enough that we don't need Connery anymore. I'm old enough to play my own father!"
George Lucas had last discussed a potential fifth big screen outing for Henry Jones, Jr. back in 2011, suggesting that a story was already in place, but that the film was still in need of a MacGuffin.
A term popularized by Alfred Hitchcock, a MacGuffin refers to a narrative element that drives the story forward. The Indiana Jones series is famous for making the MacGuffin the object of Jones' search. In Raiders of the Lost Ark it's the Ark of the Convenant, in Temple of Doom it's the Sankara Stones, in The Last Crusade it's the Holy Grail and, most recently, in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it's the skull itself.
Regardless of what happens with either Star Wars: Episode VII or Indiana Jones 5, audiences won't be without Ford on the big screen. He already starred earlier this year in both 42 and Paranoia and can soon be seen in Ender's Game and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.I know this is far from real Indy news, but it's a close as we can expect right now. It evens sounds like the same stuff he said going into Indy 4. Ken

Hi Ken,
I saw the TV programme here in the UK that this was reported from. He seemed disinterested about the Star Wars stuff (I remember him mostly dismissing the Star Wars films on his episode of 'Inside the Actors Studio') but his seemingly genuine love for the Indiana Jones series still appears to be there.
I hope that if they do make another Indy film they do it justice, and send Indy out on a high. I remember leaving the cinema after watching KOTCS, the first Indy film I saw at the cinema, thinking that they made a mess of it about half way through. I still think it is an OK film (Maybe forgetting the 'Nuking the fridge' part) until Indy and Mutt leave the Peruvian cemetery and are captured by the Soviets. After that it descended into chaos.
No matter what, I hope they end the series for good when Ford retires. Unlike James Bond, I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Indy at the stages of his life we see in the four feature films (River Phoenix and Sean Patrick Flannery playing the younger versions did work well).

I agree. They tailor made the role of Indiana Jones for Harrison Ford and to have someone else step into it, just for the sake of making more adventures, wouldn't feel right to me. I could see an animated tv series or something like that, but feature films should be just with Harrison as Indy. I mean, he IS Indiana Jones. He loves the character and no one else can play him the way he does.
I hope if Indy 5 happens that they send the character out on a grand note!

If Lucas isnt involved, I could see Indy IV being great with Speilberg directing and a better writer penning the script.
KOTCS' screenplay was so outrageously bad, I feel for Ford and Speilberg having to have their names attached to it.
They used religious/pagan icons for the first three films which featured adventures in peru, africa, india, nepal, shanghai, europe etc and each film had events take them across the globe. Perhaps russia, greece, or iraq/iran during the cold war would be interesting locations. A McGuffin for the new film could be some sort of babylonian or ancient greek icon.
anything is better than fake alien crystals, I guess thats all i'm getting at. Lucas really tarnished the brand with that.
Any new film would need to have less "action", more substance, to make it more in tune with Ford's age. Lets have some actual archeology maybe, he could be overseeing a dig in Iraq in the '70's that leads to a discovery. Seriously, anything except ancient aliens.

I dunno. Ford has defined the role. He IS Indiana Jones. But, if they have to toss it to another...
...I was thinking recently, watching a scruffy Chris Pine during press junket interviews for his new "Jack Ryan" movie, that he has the chutzpah to fill the fedora, jacket and Aldens.... so long as he trims those too dark brows of his.

I would love to see a reboot.
ONLY, THOUGH, if they created other early adventures of a younger Indy. Perhaps a small series from 1925 to 1930? I don't know... A few of the books are absolutely intriguing and I feel like they have potential for the big screen. Or perhaps a run off of the Chronicles of Young Indy. But as long as they find the right man to do it.
