Ok, so I found a S&W 1917 at a gun show about a week ago and now I'm looking at altering it to make it screen accurate. What do I need to do to it other then shorten the barrel to four inches? I've spent several hours researching this, however, I've not seen any other modifications that were ever made from the original design. Thanks for your help in advance. The General

Since you have the 1917, I'm pretty sure that you're looking to replicate the "Stembridge" gun, as seen in the opening scenes in the Inca temple up to the point where Indy throws the gun into his bag with the rest of his gear as he heads off to Nepal. Apart from the four inch shortened barrel, the other distintive features of the screen used gun are the new front sight attatched to the barrel by a band, and the missing corner on the left side (The side that the cylinder swings out) grip panel. Photos of the screen used original, and other useful information can be found here - www.imfdb.org/wiki/Raiders_of_the_lost_ark

You're a braver man than I!
This has been the hardest part (I believe), in not just tracking down either version of the revolver. Not just the price, but whether or not to actually CUT the barrel or track down(somehow) a 4" barrel. I have been looking at the "K" model hand ejector 2's in a few different calibers since I don't think I'd have the heart(or the balls), to have a .455 or 45ACP cut down to 4".
I am almost given up and figuring on having to buy two seperate revolvers for that reason alone.
Or there is just buying Todd's takara and call it a day...but I don't want to spend that much and not just get a real one to shoot(not that I'd ever costume in public with a real one, mind you so I guess a replica of some sort is a sure thing anyways.
Sorry for all the rambling there lol.
