A while a go I wrote a post where I examined the screen shots of Indy's Webley, and concluded that it was a Webley Government Army Model revolver (Something we all knew). Recently however, I was watching the movie and made a discovery.
When Indy is searching the Castle for his father, he has a Webley drawn, but something caught my eye. A target sight retention screw. For those who may not be familiar with this, targets sights are separate blades that can be interchanged depending on the distance and conditions for the shot. The Webley Revolvers did not have target sights until the Mk V model of 1913, and like most guns of the era, the previous models used fixed blades (The WG in particular used a welded Brass sight).
This means at least for this sequence of filming, Indiana Jones was using a WWI era Mk VI (Could it have been the earlier Mk V? Yes, but given only about 20,000 were ever produced, makes it very unlikely).
I'm curious as to see how much "Hero gun" time is given to each revolver. From what I can tell, the WG had most of the screen time, but until we can obtain hard records, I'm not sure.

Here's a scan of a promotional Last Crusade picture I picked up back in the early 90's - it's from the Castle Brunwald dock scene. It's much clearer in the original picture but at the side of the gun in front of the chambers the shiny section it looks very much like the edge of a holster guide (a flat triangular section to stop it snagging when going back in a holster). The WG doesn't have these guides but they are on all the military issue Webleys. My Mk VI has the exact same shiny worn pattern on the edge of the guide. Plus the shape of the section below the barrel by the hinge looks like a Mk V or VI rather than the elongated shape of a WG. Can't find out where this scene was shot (Pinewood back lot as with the castle interiors?) or get a clear shot of the same frame from screen caps. Any ideas?
