a bit cheaper, thats better. I suppose dark khaki will have to do, but i think Indies were more tan colour or light brown.

I think you'd be fine with Khaki's....My first pair were a standard set of khaki's from Uniqlo here in Japan (much like Gap, but cheaper)..So you'd be close enough with a dark khaki pair I should say..Details will be way off, but if you're some way off affording Todds (Which are still the best out there in my opinion), then normal dark khaki's will work well enough until you save the cash......
Magnoli's are good, but not quite as "all round perfect at the price" as Todds are...I have both, but given the choice, I'd buy Todds again...

fifthchamber. Does it not matter that the pants are cotton in your opinion as long as they have back flap pockets? So you think uniqlo are ok as well, i might go there. Ive seen a lot of slim chinos but i dont feel they are right shape. Are Indys more straight fit would you say? What do you think of the cord trousers as well i linked, i feel indy could wear those in my imagination, sorry all the questions? Thanks.

Indy's pants are generally considered to be a relaxed/natural/loose fit. Again, Indy's Emperor's Tomb pants look more like a straight fit.
I'm not really sure that corduroy would be a very good choice for Indy pants, as it seems a bit too reflective. But notwithstanding that, Sand would be a good color for Emperor's Tomb pants, Mole would be barely light enough for the part of the film pants, and Brown would be way too dark. The cords would get a one on the accuracy scale in my signature.
Basically, you'll want the L.L. Beans if you want the dirt-cheapest pants that count as Indy-Style. You'll want Todd's if you care more about accuracy.

yes thanks for that. I'll settle for the ll bean i think and i'll stear clear of all those slim chinos im seeing. But once its shipped it does raise the price a fair bit.
Id prefer if there were shops in the UK where i could pop into, try them on rather than shipped half way across the world. But yes i think pants need the pleat on the front and back of the pant. I keep mentioning the cords only really because i quite like them and not that they really look like indys pants. But i do like the flap back pockets which i notice most trousers havent got. So that makes them appealing in my eyes.

Well, you could get the cords if you want, and then just call it Emperor's Tomb Gear. Steven

Honestly, I'd go with the chinos over corduroy...Corduroy wasn't close to the image of Indy as originally conceptualised, and is way off the film version it changed to as well..I'd not go with those for Indy pants....Dark chinos would work fine..Essentially, if you have limited funds, try to get a look closer to the USAAF of the second world war uniforms...Chinos and a khaki shirt....Not corduroy.....The grain is too pronounced for it to be "Indy".... As for the details, well..As you won't get them all unless you go with someone like Todd or Wested, I'd say aim for pockets with flaps, but don't lose it all to get those..The colour would be the most important thing..No one outside the Indy community notices the smaller details... Since you're in the UK, have you tried Wested? Their woolen trousers are great..Not exceptionally "exact", but more than close enough to suit..And cheaper than Todds as well I think? Would be worth a shot eh?

I might try wested actually as well, i wont totally write off anything.

Ah, got ya...Yeah, well...That's a personal choice thing then eh!? No need to ask us! Hehe...If ya like em', roll with it! For sure...
As far as Indy trousers go...Wested are perfect for the cost..Although for just a little more, you can get the Todds version, which is perfectly "Screen accurate"...They're not so expensive...90 dollars or so? About 55 quid? Perhaps a little high for trousers, but they ARE the best Indy trousers out there...So..Well worth it...(Plus shipping..)
Wested is in the UK, and more than decent...Cavalry Twill fabric, and the designs not bad at all! Close enough to pass..Colour is very good too...Closer to the Last Crusade Indy trousers in colour I'd say....
Well worth the look though..If I was living back home in London I'd go with Wested I suspect..

Actually i feel ive played wested down i think. I think they are great from what i can see. They are only slightly more expensive than LLbean am i right? LLbean with shipping would cost about £50 uk pounds anyway.
So Wested it is. I will have to take them up though as my inseam is 31 i think.
I went into uniqlo yesterday, but didnt see anything that catch my eye. Certainly no flap back pockets. There was a chino for £49 which looked ok colour wise though. I dont like the word or colour khaki though as its confusing and i think of it as a pant type rather than colour. I prefer light tan, light brown or even taupe wording.

The Wested's won't disappoint..They'll need to be taken in, they're waaaay too long to be worn, but that works too, since it means you can ask the tailor to make a proper "military hem" on them and have something PERFECTLY "Indy"...(Military hem is the type of hem that is a few cm's longer in the rear of the leg than the front, allowing the trousers to fall better when being worn)..
LL Bean at 50? Then yeah, Wested would be better..Even if the others were cheaper, I'd still suggest one of the "Indy sellers", simply because they have what "we" (Indy fans) want..
Good choice, in my opinion..

Pleats aren't essential either honestly, no....(The Wested has them of course..)....If all you were after was a "roughly Indy" looking costume, at the cheapest price, I'd aim for chinos in as close to dark khaki as you could get...
It all depends simply on how far along the "crazy" phase you are in this hobby....When I first started out, I was fine with brown trousers..Then I bought chinos...Then I got "serious"..LOL..And bought Westeds...Then Magnolis, and then Todds..The Todds are the ones I like the best...
I'd say, since you're starting out, aim for the colour and rough shape of Indy's..And since Indy's costume was based on the Army Air Force uniform among other inspirations, you'd do fine with some basic chinos in khaki...Essentially

On a label on the chinos they say they are khaki colour, but online they are described as light brown. Im sure they are the same ones. www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_045010685095_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7EMen%7EChinos no flap back pockets or pleats. But i liked the colour. Usually i dont like khaki as it is greenish looking, but these are definately a muddy colour. Does anyone think they are ok'ish for first step into Indy looking clothes, before i get the real Indy wested pants? As for how far i intend to go. I wont ever buy a whip, or gun holster thats for sure. I dont even think i will get the fedora. But i just about will get everything else. Jacket, Indy looking pants, web belt and im waiting first edition todd boots. If i ever get the fedora then that will mean i have definately gone hardcore. Might be too much walking down the street looking totally like Indy lookalike. Read more: indylounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=generalgear&thread=6121&page=1#ixzz25iKepu8R
