Here is the lastest project I have been working on. I decided to make the brush Indy used in the map room on Raiders. I started with an umpire's brush.

Next, I marked the place I would cut it with the band saw.

After cutting, I hit it with some 80 grit sandpaper.

After the rough sanding, I progressed with 100 grit, 150 grit, and 220 grit. You can usually find a pack of all three at the hardware store. After all the sanding was finished I used a water based walnut stain. I refinish a lot of guns stocks, so I used Birchwood Casey, but any brand would do fine.

Once I got the color I wanted I applied a few coats of Tru-Oil to the brushes.

After the Tru-Oil dried, a couple of coats of Stock Sheen and Conditioner to protect the finish.

After that I applied a final coat of Stock Wax, and viola!

Sorry Josh, but they were all spoken for. Maybe I will make some more sometime. I actually would like to buy some wood and horse hair brush bristles and make a few from scratch one day.
