A member of another forum had requested that I make this for him. Basically he wanted a keychain item that was like a mini whip handle. I accepted, and this is what I came up with:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
It's approximately 1:3 scale of an actual whip handle. The total length, including the wrist loop and key ring was about 6 inches.
It's internals consist of a rod of spring steel that is approximately 1/3 the diameter of a normal whip handle rod. Over this is 100% roo leather, then over that is a 12 plait overlay in a diamond pattern. Then, you have the 6 plait wrist loop, and correct handle knots ( for an indy whip ).
All the leather use is kangaroo. The new owner is very happy with what he received today, and was even kind enough to write a review. He is on another forum so a link to that would probably upset the owners of this forum, so I'll just tell you he was VERY happy with it.
When I'm able to make these, the color will be limited to what I have on hand, unless I get three or four requests for a different color. Right now, I have some leftover natural tan ( the color all the indy whips were originally ) roo that I plan on using for these keychains. If anybody is interested, I'll sell these to you for $45, plus $6 US shipping. For international orders, the shipping is $16.You may think $45 is pretty steep for that little thing, but honestly it's dirt cheap! Take this into consideration. For one, it takes me about 2 hours to make one of these. Two, it takes about $5 in leather and materials. So already I'm making less money than I make making regular whips. On top of that, it's extremely tedious work. Throughout and especially toward the end, my fingers kept cramping up really badly! I literally had to pry my thumb off a pair of pliers at one point!
If anyone has any questions, please pm or email me at jeremymce@hotmail.com or ask them right here on the thread. I'll answer them as soon as I can
edit: Also, if you were to buy more than one, I'll give you a $5 discount per piece. Also, once a certain number is met ( if you were to want that many ) I would need to use a bigger box so the shipping would go up slightly. How many that would be I couldn't tell you for sure.
