I have done a LOT of research regarding the Revolver used in "The Last Crusade" and I want to try and clear up any doubt.
There are three contenders that are consistantly brought forth.
1. Webley "WG" Army Model
2. Webley Mk VI
3. Webley Mk IV
Right off the bat, the MK IV can be eliminated due to the fact that it is a .38 cal gun, and is more squared off than the earlier models. When Idy breaks open his revolver, it's massive chambers are clearly too large for a .38
The Mk VI model is the one that most official Iniana Jones websites and novice gun collectors Identify as the one used in the film. This would seem to make sense since the Mk VI was famous in WWI and WWI (though replaced in 1932 by the Mk IV and the Enfield MK II, it still saw broad service amongst older officers) There is one problem. The Mk VI has a target front blade, which ment it was slender, retangular, and could removed via a pin in the center). It also had a squared off handle and lanyard loop. One website stated that both the "WG" and the Mk VI were used interchangebly, but this is not possible (see Webley Government)
With the advanced defenition with DVDs We are able to see clearly the key elements that identify the gun a sa Webley "WG". The first thing people have said on websites are the birdseye grips. While yes, the Webley "WG" used birdseye grips, the main identifier is the brass front sight blade. This feature was unique to the Webley Government (Often misnamed "Webley Green"). If you watch The Last Crusade, or go to www.imfdb.org and search Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. You will find that the brass blade visible in most of the screen shots. In the scenes where it is not clearly visible, you have to compare the cylinder flutes to that of a Mk VI. The flutes on Indy's "WG" extend almost the entire length of the cylinder where on the Mk VI it runs only half the cylinder. Also, the "WG" is more slender in shape. I encourage you to look it up! I would post pics, but I do not know how to on this forum yet.
