Noticed that Todd was having a sale on the S&W, but it looks like it has actually gone up in price not down? Two weeks ago it was $199, but now it looks like it's $250.
Anyone have a clue as to what's going on?

Just heard back from Todd's. In fact they are having shipping increases and the cost of the gun has gone up unfortunately and is now $250.

Well I ended up biting the bullet (pun intended) and bought one of Todd's guns from eBay. I figured this was my last chance to get one at a decent price. Decided after all the money I had been spending on this it just didn't make sense to skimp on the sidearm.
If anyone is on the fence about the Tanaka grab them now, before they increase the eBay price as well.

Since the price went back down, I bought one Monday. Along with the pants. The last place it has been recorded by the USPS tracking service was in Bell Gardens, CA on Tuesday. I Googled it, Bell Gardens' facility has a reputation for having packages stuck in a loop. Which isn't to say mine will be. And sometimes USPS doesn't keep up their tracking service very well. I hope to post a ton of pictures when it comes. -Josh

Since this prop is never leaving my house, I taped off the barrel and sprayed the orange plug gloss black. With that done you really can't tell it from the real thing unless you pick it up. I'm sure I broke two or three laws doing this but what the heck.

Well, to me, the tip of the barrel still looks a bit different from the rest of the barrel. Perhaps if you did the whole barrel in that black paint, and not just the tip, it'd look much better. On a side note, I think the Stembridge can pull off the orange tip look better than the Bapty, because it already has a different-colored tip from the rest of the barrel. Steven Attachments:

I will eventually be purchasing one of these. Would you care to elaborate on whether or not the wood grips are indeed wood, and are they solid or hollow?
Thanks!

Well, to me, the tip of the barrel still looks a bit different from the rest of the barrel. Perhaps if you did the whole barrel in that black paint, and not just the tip, it'd look much better. That's because he painted the tip of the barrel black instead of giving it a "Midnight Gold" finish. I think they make spray paint in that color for automotive parts. Be sure it's for plastic, though. I, on the other hand, am going to try to remove the paint entirely. I read online that there's an old method of using Easy-Off oven cleaner to safely remove paint without damaging the plastic or the metal finish. At least that's my hope. A friend of mine told me brake fluid works too. I already have oven cleaner, though. You're right, daggers, it is illegal to make a non-gun look like a real firearm. Just like you, I will be keeping mine at home. If I wear my gear to a party or convention, I'll carry my resin replica. For that one I will probably paint the tip orange, just in case. I'm so excited for this thing. It was supposed to arrive yesterday, but I guess with Columbus Day having been Monday, it delayed the mail a little. HOPEFULLY it will arrive today. I have a delivery route to run today, which I have to leave for shortly. I should be back in time to receive it. -Josh

Really can hardly notice the difference in person. I'm sure if you really are a stickler you could match it up perfectly. Mr, I'm happy with it the way it is.

That's cool. As long as you're happy with it, Gailen, that's all that matters. I received mine yesterday, and it's freaking awesome! I'm attempting to remove the paint now. *shhhhh!* don't tell anyone. It's proving to be very difficult. I may just paint it after all.

Hahah....COOL stuff Josh....
Very! So cool in fact that I went to my local Toy Gun store here in Tachikawa, Tokyo, and asked them if they had a 1917 S&W HE, and lo and behold, they do! So, if they STILL have it in a week or so's time when I get paid, I'll be getting one too! (The Japanese have a ban on guns, but no ban on toy guns which means they're all painted as "real"...Which is rather surprising...Trust me, this shop had more rifles and automatic weapons than the US base nearby....Cool...
Thanks for the photos Bud!

I have removed that orange paint on a few guns. I used Acetone. However it is extremely powerful and may remove other coloring as well.

Thanks, Ben!!! I was a little worried it wouldn't come out real well. I'm glad to know it did. Niagrawhip, I highly recommend getting one if you are able. It's a great "non-leathal" alternative to the real thing. -Josh

Note to those thinking about purchasing one of these. The price has just increased again to $249.95. Perhaps there is a hike in the import shipping price to get them to Todd's. Hopefully that will go back to what it was by the time I order mine.
