The word from Tanaka Works is that they are interested in doing a Webley WG. Fully functional, plated metal finish, heavy build quality, cap fire or airsoft. Tanaka is high-end stuff, and their models are beautiful. The problem is that the cost will be higher. The S&W was not a huge investment for them because they already had an N frame model with all the guts. This model would be completely from scratch. They want to know what kind of sales they can expect to offset the extra cost.
So, what do you think? You can also weigh in with comments about PFC or airsoft. I think in Japan they prefer cap guns. Here in the USA, no one sells cap guns.
I may need to take pre-orders on these. I would expect my investment would have to be $20,000+. Obviously, I can't put out that kind of money, especially on pure speculation. Is there interest?

I am SO on board for this! I certainly hope they can make one, as I have been wanting one of these pistols for a LONG time!
I personally would prefer to have a plug fire cap style pistol, but if they made an airsoft version I would purchase that instead if it were what they made.

That sounds great! So Josh, would you rather have an actual projectile-firing Airsoft WG or a realistic firing PFC WG? Steven

If you want Todd, I can start threads over on several other forums too to see if there is interest.... this way, the more demand there is, the more it can offset the cost and make these affordable for everyone!
I really hope this pans out. I would love to own an accurate and functional copy of the Webley WG. Favorite Indy pistol by far!

That sounds great! So Josh, would you rather have an actual projectile-firing Airsoft WG or a realistic firing PFC WG? Steven I wouldn't really care either way. I just want an accurate, break-top Webley WG replica. Airsoft would be cool, but I've never had a PFC replica before. I just WANT ONE! -Josh

I personally would prefer a PFC, because the effect is really realistic. Plus loading the cartridges in the cylinder is a really cool! But an airsoft version that actually fired something would be awesome too. This way you could easily set up targets and practice accuracy.
I'd just be happy to have either version.

That would be great! Yes, I agree that a PFC is the way to go. You want to be able to load and eject those cartridges. That's half the fun!

Excellent! I created 2 threads. One over at Dewback Wing: ASAP A Site About Props and another at The Replica Prop Forum. I'll see if I can find some others where I can post it.
I think the demand will be there honestly. The only versions of this pistol available are the limited fanmade runs (which are great) but hard to come by, or the new and inaccurate Denix Webley Mark IV.

Hey Todd,
Out of curiosity, how many people would you need to justify your initial investment into the project? Also, what kind of cost are you looking at? Meaning, if they do get made, how much would you be selling them for? I know I would be willing to spend a bit more if the product is just as good as the other items you sell.

Well, that's not to say that there wouldn't be another airsoft company that might be interested in making this. Tanaka Works has some amazing products, but there are other companies that could manufacture this. I'd be happy with an airsoft version, or even a static replica as long as it's durable.

For any of you who may have been following this thread, I just wanted to update you all that according to Todd's costumes Facebook page, the project has been canceled due to a lack of significant interest.
It's unfortunate, but I just figured I would give you all a head's up. I'm sure that Kristen may be kind enough to elaborate further on this if there are any other questions.
Thanks all!

Damn. Anyway, thanks for the information, Niagra. I'm glad to hear anything about this project. Even if it is about its demise. Pity, I was really looking forward to this... oh well. C'est la vie. -Josh

Yeah....That sucks....After all the work put in on the S&W I'd hoped for something similar for the Webley....
Dammit....Ah well..People being people I guess there's just no love for this...

Yeah I am sorely disappointed as well, but at least we have a definitive answer. Who knows, perhaps there may be a future possibility of this.

Yeah...You'd hope right?
I'll mention it to the other Indy fans here when we meet this weekend for a small Whip session in Tokyo..Maybe one of them would be up for writing letters of petition or something to Tanaka to see if we can keep the project alive and kicking, or on their minds at least?
I mean, the amount of rather "ordinary" guns they make, having a Webley Green in the catalogue would surely be a plus point? No? I've seen about a million Browning 9mm variations...I'd think we could get more support for a gun as classic as the WB?
I'll ask and see if they feel the same way I do... (I know Yuji does, since he mentioned it on COW, but the rest will too I should think..)
Will see what we can come up with..

That would be great!!! What you said is true, there are dozens of opportunities to have a replica Hi-Power or a Smith & Wesson. There are only two people I'm aware of that make replicas of a WG. One of which is solid resin.
WE NEED THIS GUN, TANAKA!!!!

I agree with you both. No one I know of makes an accurate WG Webley that I know of, other than the aforementioned resin kits, and even those are rare and hard to come by.
