Hello all you Loungers!
Has anyone heard from Graeme at Midland Whips recently? I have a whip on order that is now 10 months overdue and I cannot get ahold of him. He won't respond to emails, PM's and now I've learned that the phone number listed on his website now belongs to another person.
I know of a few others that are going through the same thing I am, and we are beginning to worry.
If anyone has been in contact with him within the last 30 days, please let me know!!
Thank you,
K-Wad

Maybe he's in India again, being held there by Thuggees for the second time in a row. I'll tell California Jones to wire a British Army Rifle regiment while I arrange some transportation for him. ;D Read Part 1Read Part 2In all seriousness, I have no idea where he is. Steven

I'm very concerned about this... As I've read on COW the same thing. I have two whips due middle if Feb and I emailed him to see if they were on schedule today. I'll let you know if I get a response.

Yeah some people on COW are waiting for their whips too. I really don't know what the hold up is, but I hope that you guys get your whips soon.

I heard from a member on COW that his whipped was shipped on Dec, 21 and he STILL doesn't have it yet. I heard that around that time there was adverse weather but I ordered some wested trousers on the 15th and they arrived the 20th and Im in San Diego, CA.

I read those threads. If Graeme DID send them out I hope you guys actually get them. If he DIDN'T then I hope you guys get your money back. And since Paypal won't refund the money after 45 days, hopefully someone can contact Graeme by phone and he can give back the money.
This is really too bad. His whips are great. But his lack of communication with his customers is ruining his reputation.

I'm glad I ordered mine when I did! If I had ordered it just a few weeks later I might not have gotten it like you guys. This situation is really unfortunate. I just want everything to turn out well.

As far as we know, he could have a medical condition or something else going on in his life that has cause the information blackout/lack of whip deliveries. It could also be a lapse in good business practices... or worse. I have no idea.
Hopefully news will surface soon about Graeme's situation for his customer's peace of mind.

No, I'm not buying the "he's in a coma" defense. This is NOT the first time he has pulled his little disappearing act.
According to someone who is friends with him on Facebook, he has been well enough to log in there and accept a friend request within the last few weeks, but, he still can't respond to my emails and PM's from months ago.

According to someone who is friends with him on Facebook, he has been well enough to log in there and accept a friend request within the last few weeks, but, he still can't respond to my emails and PM's from months ago. Nobody asked to "buy" anything, nor was it some kind of defense. I don't know Graeme and have no idea where he is... but guess what? Neither do you. Why not have your friend contact him through Facebook and find out what's up? My point is that until his customers know for sure what his reasons are for not being around, it remains and assumption. Regardless of what the situation seems like, it's always best to find out for sure before passing judgement. As unlikely as it may be, it would seem rather foolish to call the guy a snake, only to find out later that something terrible had happened in his life, which kept him from dealing with his whip business. All that said, if it turns out that he has indeed been skipping out on making and shipping whips that his customers have paid for... then the customers have every right to pursue whatever legal recourse they can to get restitution from him. Ken, That's what I have said before. I would feel like a jerk if it turns out that he is laid up in a hospital somewhere. I'm waiting on a whip myself. It does seem weird that all this is happening once again.

This does seem weird that it's happening again. I'm friends with him on Facebook too, and I posted on his wall yesterday. We can only hope that everything turns out fine.

Yeah we will just have to wait and see what happens. If it's anything short of a coma, then this is just bad business practice or worse as Ken said.

Ken,
I did not intend to direct my remark towards you, but, only in general. I'm sorry if I have offended.
You are correct that I do not personally know him. However, I have been dealing with him for some time and he has made it a habbit of ignoring my emails. When he has replied, he has been very indirect regarding my order. According to several other customers of his (some of which has been discussed in open forums, some in private) he has been doing the same to them. Unfortunately, the person who reported seeing him active on Facebook is also waiting on a whip and cannot receive a reply.
You are also correct that it is only an assumption at this point. But, it is the assumption I have come to after weighing the situation for close to a year.
Due to his past actions, I no longer will be giving him the benifit of the doubt (which I had been doing for some time).
I hope that I am wrong and all turns out well. But, until that date, I will be left indefinately assuming.

I'm also friends with Graeme over on Facebook, and it seems he was at least corpus mentus as of New Year.. Since there are photos of him looking fine at a party on that date... He also accepted my friend request on the 18th... So he was up and about, and able to accept that request on that date....
What that means is not so much, it takes only one click to accept, and it can be done from a mobile phone easily enough..But taken with all the information both here and over on the COW, it doesn't really look reasonable to accept that he might be ill anymore...
That said, it's always a possibility, and yes, it would look bad if all this time he'd been in a real fix....It's bad business practice, of course, but then sometimes things get on top of us...So it's not TOTALLY impossible to envision another (and more optimistic) turnout...
It's unlikely....But not impossible....Not at this stage....
I'd do all I could to get my money back now...And I wouldn't do business with him from this point on, since I believe these things really matter....But I wouldn't go so far as to be offensive, and I don't think anyone else has gotten that far....Judging from all the reactions I've seen, most have been more than decent and given him more than enough rope with which to hang himself, or climb up out of the hole he's made.....You're all reasonable, and I don't see anyone jumping on a bandwagon to try a persecute someone who's totally innocent....
I hope it's sorted out soon.

No offense taken here and certainly none intended toward you kwad, or toward any other individual currently "waiting" for a response from Graeme. I was simply attempting to be the voice of "wait and see" before lighting the fires to burn him at the stake. I can absolutely understand the frustration and anger that comes from spending money and getting nothing in return... especially with no communication about it. In no way am I attempting to prop up some sort of explanation for Graeme's disappearance, as I have no incentive to do so. Sometimes the strangest things happen and I wanted to make sure somebody threw that possibility into the ring as well. I do hope you guys get answers soon and that everyone ends up satisfied with either whips in hand or their money back. Ken

As some of you may know, my 8ft Winrich was stolen at an airport last year, so I thought as I am still currently in the UK, I would perhaps order one from Graeme. I sent him an e-mail enquiring a about a 6ft whip in mid December and didn't hear anything, so I rang him on his mobile, and was told, like others , that it was the wrong number. I then PM'd him on COW on 21st December but the PM is still showing as unread. Chewie alerted me to a post of his back in July saying that he'd been involved in an accident. I, too, hate to jump to any major conclusions, but Graeme really needs to come on here and explain the situation, as people need to know what is going. Like I have said, I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but an explanation is needed.

Ken, It's all good! I was just worried that I came off as a little harsh towards you in my message. I understand where you are coming from. Everyone deserves the benifit of the doubt, but, it does come with an expiration date.
Fithchamber, Thank you for that little nugget of information. Every little bit helps.
Stella,
I am sick to death over the fact that your whip was taken from you! There is a special place in....well you know where... for people who would do something like that.
I hope you can find a suitable replacement.

Kwad, No worries, I'm not sure what is happening with Graeme, but as the photos I've seen of him seem to show him fine and able to drink beer on New Years, I'm rather unsure that he could have much of a legit excuse about his absence from the boards and his non-replies in emails.. It 'could' be an issue like Steve Delk runs into, where his time is better spent making things than online replying to us, but since Graeme isn't a professional whip-maker it doesn't look like a high possibility...(And you DO get replies from Steve...) I dunno...I'm glad to help and I hope Graeme is fine and not messing about...We'll see I hope.. All the best.. Ben

Although I've nothing really to do with this, it is intriguing to hear about the faff that you guys seem to be having when trying to get hold of this guy, and yet some of you have mentioned a phone number. Now, you may have the person on the other end saying "This isn't *him*", but have you tried asking who you're speaking to? And if they have contact with Graeme at all? If this guy is anything like serious about doing business, he should have a current number by which to contact him, otherwise he's not got very good scruples One of the simple rules we follow over here is, if they don't have a current reliable landline number, then they're not really to be trusted. With the ease of purchase and disposal of mobile (cell) numbers these days, serious business people can be contacted by landlines as well, so if they have a landline number, they're generally legit Just a suggestion!
