HI everybody, I have a question for the Wested experts. I was just on the Wested website (custom jacket) and was looking through all the leather options for the LS/CS jackets. I read through the description of leathers and they listed horsehide. But, when the time came to use the drop down menu to pick the horsehide, it was not listed. Do they still make the LC/CS jacket in horsehide and if so, how do you select that option? I noticed in the ROTLA section, it was 10 pounds more, but there is no such option for LC/CS. Please help, I REALLY want a horsehide jacket (longevity). Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the Lounge, Slynum!!! I'd say call them and ask them if they can make one. Steven

Thanks Steven. I will make that a last resort (extra cost). Just wanted to know if anyone else was able to make horsehide a special request for the LC/CS, even when the option was no longer in the drop down menu. Also, anyone know the weight difference between the horsehide and the cowhide. I don't really care about the aged look, just want a jacket that will last at least 20 years with normal wear.

Welcome to Indylounge! They may have run out, but I would e-mail or call them and ask to make sure. When they get more in stock it might come back on the list. I am not sure which is more durable, but I do know that horsehide is strong and should last a long time. Someone who knows more can give more info.

Here is an update. I emailed Wested late last night. This morning I received an email back saying that the website had now been updated with the horsehide option. Now that is service! I am impressed with Wested!

To be honest, I think that people's perception of Wested's "bad service" is probably due to a few things that people just can't get their heads around. Firstly, you have to remember that they are a small, family-run business in the UK. This means that they are more likely going to focus on their walk-in customers, and not somebody abroad via the internet. Shocking I know, but let's face it - if someone is phyiscally stood in front of you wanting something, and you have an email from a faceless person abroad asking for the same thing, who's going to be your priority (truthfully)? 99% of the time it's going to be the bod stood in front of you, because they're in direct contact. Secondly, this small business is run in the countryside, where the way of life is a lot slower than most people's in big towns/cities. Sure they may work 9-5 like most people, but there's no great rush in the countryside. So be patient if your email isn't answered that day - they probably get 1000's of emails/calls a day, and they can't possibly handle them all *and* do everything else And finally, (this is stereotyping) the people that work there probably aren't the most tech-savvy with a computer you've come across. This is probably why some emails aren't the best composed, etc. Now all of this is just my opinion, but when you think it through it makes sense. Granted, I've only had one dealing with the company, and it went very well. But give the guys a break, put yourself in their shoes, and then reassess what you might consider as "bad service" Back on topic - Slynum, glad to hear you're on your way to getting the jacket you'd like, it's always a great feeling to get the things you want If you do eventually get a Wested, I hope you like it as much as I love mine ;D
