Overall I too prefer the Browning Hi-power. Having fired all the Indy guns (.45 Colt, .38 S&W, .455 Webley, MP-40) the Browning Hi-power was accurate, had more "stopping power" than a .38, but not a huge kick like the .45 Colt & .455 Webley, and let's not forget the higher magazine capacity and easier reloading.
Not with that said, revolvers do have a romantic quality to them. But I think in a real life situation Indly would have went with the Hi-power full time. But this is just my humble opinion.

I prefer the Hi-Power, but that's because it was the sidearm of choice for British soldiers during the Cold War, and I'm a Cold War ACEMobile reenactor ;D But I agree with Capt. Zak, the revolvers do evoke a sense of the period more, and make Indy look more 'authentic' for the films. The only downside is the fact he'd have to carry a tonne of ammo in his bag

I personally think revolvers are the cooler ones and auto-pistols more represent death.

I also like revolver Sorry that was a cheesy joke Though I do really prefer revolvers but I'm sure a pistol would be better. My favorite pistol is the Colt .45 (Colt 1911) it's the one the US issued to our troops during WWII. (WWII is one of my hobbies)

I personally think revolvers are the cooler ones and auto-pistols more represent death. Steven Huh? What I meant was that revolvers (to me, and I guess it's only limited to Indy's revolvers) look cooler, and more refined. And the first glance at an Auto-Pistol (again, it's just me) means somebody will get killed. The reason for this screwed thinking is because Auto-Pistols are more popular than revolvers nowadays and Indy uses a revolver more often. And yes, in reality, they're both deadly. That's not what I'm talking about. Steven

Yeah, I don't get it either Perhaps what he's trying to say is that revolvers have a more romantic view in his mind, whereas pistols seem more menacing because of their prominence in modern culture? quick question Stargate being a reenactor do you own any firearms that are capable of live fire i think it would great if you posted so photos of your gear and weapons No I don't own any live or blank-firing replicas Mine are all airsoft! This is mainly due to 2 factors - 1) Live firing weapons are all but banned in the UK, and 2) blank-firers are ridiculously expensive and all but banned In fact, the closest thing to firing a real weapon most people can experience is 'clay pigeon' shooting, and then it's with a shotgun?! Don't worry though, I'll get some pics of my gear up eventually, but without the airsoft kit - somehow I don't think a Glock or L85 would look right with Indy gear ;D

I think what would make the most sense is for Indy to carry a gun that his rivals used. That would change from situation to situation. Most importantly, he would have a source for ammo. Lets face it...have we ever seen ammo in his MkVII bag, ever? For instance:
ROTLA - Lugers, Hi-powers, P-38's. I would stay away from a Broom Handle Mauser though, might envoke images of "Indiana Solo".
TOD - His .45 Colt would make sense here. The Thuggies had spears. But again, the Hi-power would work cause the Brits were present with 9mm Ingles.
LC - See ROTLA
KOTCS - Nagant revolver, Tokarev TT-33
I could see Indy with any period hand gun from what ever period a specific movie is set in. But seems the hi-power would still be the wise choice for 3 out of the 4 movies, all but Kingdom of the Crystal Crap wich I try to ignore along with Star Wars I, II, & III.
;D

On the contrary, that's exactly what I'm saying. I just didn't wanna use the word "romantic" because Capt. Zak already used it. But yeah, I now know that I should've used "Menacing." Steven

I pick my Glock lol... clip holds 17, if you have one chambered that's 18... I have a Glock 17 with hollow-points.. praise be to the state of Indiana... I went in, gave them my card, and my ID, he made a phone call, and I walked out with a brand new Glock 5 minutes later haha. If you want pics I will post... Unfortunately it definitely would not look good in Indiana Jones hands..

speaking of his guns though, I think the scene in ToD is almost as classic as ROLA, when the 2 Thuggee come running at him with swords and he reaches for his gun forgetting he doesn't have it... of course this scene pays homage to the scene where he shot the swordsman in ROLA... of course that scene had not happened chronologically because ToD is first

So, Ed, out of the guns listed in the poll and in my initial post in this thread, what's your favorite Indy gun?

I went with the Webley just because it is so rare and also the scene on the horse is so Iconic and in the Picture. either way, Jones needs a revolver... the Browning just didnt seem right for him...

If you're riding on horseback there is a law that says you HAVE TO be shooting a revolver. Just something about a horse and a revolver. I can't argue against that one.

lol I definitely would never pick a revolver in real life... heavy, few bullets.. have to struggle to load them up... I mean you can carry a few clips on a semi-auto.. hit the button, pop out then boom back in ready to go
