Hi all. This is my first post. I've been reading for a while now and thought it was time to join in.
Popped into Wested's just prior to Christmas to buy my son his first biker jacket and saw all the different Indy jackets.
I had a very similar jacket in the eighties which I inherited from a family friend. He had bought it in 1938 to wear on his motorcycle. It was over 40 years old when I got hold of it. The patina was superb and I wore it daily. Unfortunately, it was damaged beyond repair in a motorcycle accident around 1987. That I thought was that.
Fast forward to Jan. '10 and there I am being measured up for a Wested. I'll be honest and say that screen accuracy wasn't high on the list of priorities, fair play to those of you who value it, but I just like the style of the jacket.
I deliberated for quite some time over which leather to have, then Peter showed me a new roll of goat hides he had and that was the clincher. I went for a Last Crusade in the new goat ( I think the collar shape is sharper on the LC jacket and I like the windflap snaps and double stitched seams ) extra inside pocket, cotton body with satin sleeves and slightly smaller front pockets, which to my eye look nicer.
What a jacket, the workmanship is spot on and for the money I don't think you can beat it. The goatskin has a lovely pebbly grain and the different panels match really well. It is a bit stiff at the moment but I wear it daily and it's breaking in nicely. It is reasonably light but with the toughness of goat I hope to enjoy it for many years to come.
Hope I haven't gone on too long,
I kept it as succinct as possible!
