I need some advice on wested jackets sizing and fit. Below is a pic of my River Road leather jacket in a size 42. It is pretty roomy, but works because I sometime have to where a sweater underneath when I ride my motorcycle. My question is, do wested jackets fit true to their size? I am about 5'9" with 37"-38" chest and 30 waist, and I am not sure if I should go with a 40 or 42 wested jacket. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If this is any help, I almost ALWAYS wear a size 42L jacket (whether it be a leather jacket or a sports coat, I am usually a 42L). I have 2 westeds, and both of them are a 42L and they fit perfect!
So I say order your size, but that is my opinion.

I've found Wested jackets to run at the specified size. To save yourself alot of headache, I would recommend ordering the style you choose (with whatever options you prefer) in your regular jacket size. The only other measurement I would worry about supplying them with is sleeve length (measured to the correct length... which so many people get wrong).
So many people try reinventing what they believe to be the perfect Indy jacket design, the result winds up not fitting well at all (giving them one size too big or too small on purpose, changing specific panel measurements, or in some cases.... attempting to design their own jacket with every measurement possible). Making things complicated on your end will definitely do the same on Wested's end.
Peter and the Wested gang know how to make jackets in specific sizes, and in that regard I would trust them. I may have other issues with buying a Wested (quality control, poor customer communication, and overlooking order details in general), but they do size jackets properly when people give them the correct size to begin with.

Thanks for the replies guys.
What I will do is measure my size 42 jacket and compare it to the measurements on the wested site for there 42R. This might give me a better idea.
I am also hearing a lot about Wested quality control and customer service issues. I am a little reluctant to spend $275+ on a jacket and not know what I will be receiving in terms of quality.
On the other hand it seems that Todd's has an A+ reputation, and they also go by body measurement on there website. I have already compared and it looks like a MED A in the Todd's ($150 jacket) should fit me. The only thing that I am questioning is the complaints I have heard about them being to thin, but others have said the are perfect fit and thickness.

Personally, I have dealt with Wested 3 times and all 3 times I got nothing short of a great product! I have no quality or customer service issues at all.

my advise always when ordering a jacket online is measure measure measure. The Todd's standard is a great starter jacket, I eventually traded up for a vip cow from USwings i got on ebay and I am totally satisfied with it. I gave the Todds to a friend as a wedding present. I have tried to e-mail Wested and the results were perplexing to be sure. But in the end the choice is yours.

I'm taking this answer from someone from another forum:
"ROTLA refers to the slimmer, 80's cut, with the configuration that was the original jacket, ie slimmer torso and sleeves, no leather facings, zipper is a smaller gauge, etc. The Std. is cut fuller than the ROTLA, and has leather facings and the more sturdy brass zip."

Hmmm....... Maybe I should go with the ROTLA, I would rather have a more form fitting jacket. This might also fit better seeing I am just about in between a 40R and 42R. A 42R in the ROTLA might be the perfect fit.
