Aww man! I thought you were just going to take a break from it for a while... Beautiful work on this one Pagey... and I do hope your closing down is just temporary. Ken

With all respects due, Nick, but I really don't understand why you're shutting this biz down! This is a f*~#ing (sorry Stella - don't know how to express my feelings otherwise) crime!!! It's not my business, what happened to make you take that decission, but I once for all just don't think it's fair for the rest of the gang.
Here I finally have a talented whip maker in my neck of the woods. Someone who not only is said to be VERY close to Joe Strain regarding the craftmanship, but also make his whips more screen accurate, than what I've seen before. And before I even had a chance to scrap together the money due to the hat biz and my wedding, he pulls the plug out. Goddammit Nick! No pun intended, but if this decission wasn't taken because you don't have enough time for your wife and / or you kids, I thought you'd have a little more back bone.
Now, before you take all this as one big insult: that's not the way I mean it! It's rather a verbal grap at your shoulders, together with some heavy shacking to wake you up and show you what you're actually about to give up.
I only have the highest respect for you and you craftmanship, but right here, right know, I could literally kick you in the butt, for doing this.
HIGH regards,
Marc

This is truly a shame. I am sorry to hear about your decision to quit making whips. I only hope that you are going to put your talent to other good use.
Cheers, John

I'm afraid I changed my mind about the break - I'll try and explain:
The pm that john passed on to me did get me thinking. I had a lot of time to think things over during my holiday, and one of the things I realised was that I had unintentionally become a vendor. That's just not something I want to be. I'm a fan and a consumer! Originally I got into whipmaking as a means of being able to carry out repairs on my most expensive piece of gear. Then of course was the challenge of actually making a whip. I never thought it would be possible and it was a hard road with a fair share of triumph and dismay along the way. I got to know most of the major whipmakers (although I've never actually met them) who all have shared a great deal of knowledge and have been very supportive and complimentary of my efforts - especially Bernardo, Joe and Ben Scott. Once I felt I was actually making a decent whip, I started selling them off to further finance my whipmaking. In sharing photos I created interest and gradually mutated into a whipmaker. I think I let that go to my head which is why I set up the website. Working intesively on whips alongside a full time job and a family gradually left me drained, hence the need for a break. And it was just going to be a break except for two things. Just before heading off on holiday I got another email from a german fan describing in minute detail how he wanted his whip made, half of which I didn't understand anyway. And as i was getting in the car to drive on holiday, my last batch of hides arrived - and turned out to be pretty small and scarred. These two events left me feeling pretty irked and the more I thought it over on the beach, the more I realised I had become something I was not happy being. My goal had been to make my own ideal whip, and here I was worrying about how to satisfy this other guy and could I even make such a long whip from such small hides. So I thought "sod it" - and imediately felt better.
The good news is there is no shortage of decent whipmakers today, even if they are mostly in the States.

Pagey, Thanks for the explanation, that... though not necessary, was very well written and honest. I can certainly understand your feelings about the whole thing, and nobody needs extra pressure in their life. You certainly do a fine job, which is a testament to your artistic ability, and attention to detail. You can feel good about your work, based on the number of people that don't want you to stop. You're always welcome to sell whatever you make next, around here. Even if it's only a one time job with a whip, or whatever you get into making next. Thanks again for the information and enjoy a little extra free time with the family! Ken

Pagey,
I fully understand your decision, vendorhood sort of sprang up on you and took over, and you hobby became a chore.
You spent so much time learning how to make beautiful whips, and you strove to make them as screen accurate as you can. It must be disheartening to get a shopping list of changes.
I hope that you don't just drop everything you have learned and keep your hand in but on your own terms and most importantly as a hobby.
It would be a nice surprise if a new Pagey appeared every once in a while.
Put your tools away. Take the time out. After a few months, well you never know.

Or........just sell them as you, the whipmaker, sees them. Make it a "no alterations" type of thing. You get an 8', 9', or 10' Pagey and that's it - with maybe some variations on color or something.
There is a web slot to put Pagey's Bullwhips on top of the list when people search for "the bullwhip" if you wanted to.

I wish I could justify purchasing this last whip from you because this one looks fantastic (again). I know that whip is going to make some lucky person VERY happy.

Marc, are you apologising to me because I am a mod, a lady or both? ;D Seriously though, no need to apologise. Pagey, I too feel where you are coming from. Many times before I have been in situatons where things have gotten too much and I have to step back and have a break to re-evaluate my decisions, so don't worry, ok? Just take your time, and everything will be fine.

It is natural tan roohide, a little darker than my last few hides.

I've switched the keeper knot for a darker one more in keeping with Raiders.

Really? I guess I never looked to close at the Raiders whip. I never realized the keeper knot was darker. To bad that's your last one Pagey. That sure is a beautiful whip.

Well, since they used multiple whips in the movie.... not all of them had darker ring knots. Some whips themselves were darker, some lighter, etc.... So, the ring knots did change too. I like the slightly darker ring knot look, either way. It sets the handle apart a bit more. Great looking whip Pagey, I wish I could justify buying one! Ken

Mine too. It must have been a temporary server issue at Photobucket.

Looks like someting happened to Pagey's Photobucket links. Harry, They are showing up on my PC. Cheers, G-MANN I've refreshed the page a few times right now and I'm still not seeing anything. That's weird. If it were a server issue then none of us would be able to see his stuff.

Right, but I was assuming that the issue had passed... and we could see them again.
I guess it's just you! ;D
Only kidding,
