Hi, I've been watching Club Jedi Master Kenobi threads "in the rafters". I have a question about a jacket from Flightsuits.com. How durable is the Goatskin Expedition Jacket? Here's the link: www.flightsuits.com/leather_expedition.htmlPennJones

It is supposed to be one of the most durable Indy jackets around and very screen accurate to boot. I have a Lambskin Expedition and I love it. Welcome to the Lounge. Cheers, John

The G&B Expedition has a lifetime zipper and construction warranty, though I've never heard of someone having to use it. I have a lambskin from them as well, and it's a very well made, comfortable jacket to wear. I can't speak about the goatskin from them, though I do love that particular hide. It's tougher and thicker than lamb, so it should withstand even more abuse over time.

I've just acquired a 5 year old used G&B goatskin Expo, and I am very happy with it. These jackets are everything they say about them & more. The lining is still good, the zipper works perfectly, and the leather itself looks almost new. I don't mean out-of-the-box new, but just-broken-in new. After 5 years of wear, it only shows a bit of wear on the corners of the pockets, and a bit on the edge of the jacket. I am the 3rd owner, and the first owner wore this jacket everywhere as a professional archeologist. Not to meantion that this jacket fits better than any other one I've owned. If I were to buy another jacket, it would almost definitely be another G&B in goatskin...

These are very helpful, so thanks! Now by the way, which color is more SA, Dark Brown or Seal Brown? Plus I'd like to know what an Action Pleat is.

Screen accurate color is really an opinion, as what it was originally, what is became after they worked on it for the screen, and the way it looks on screen/TV are all a little different from each other. There is no single answer that's right because of all those variables. That's why I always say to look as many pics as you can, of the colors you like best (both on the vendors sites and from owners). Then, buy the one you like the best.
An action pleat is that extra fold of leather on the sides of the jacket, between the arms and the back panel. It's supposed to give the wearer more freedom of movement and is also called a bi-swing vent by other jacket manufacturers as well.

Check out the tread "Narrowed my action pleats..." by Indiana 24 in this section for some pics.

Oh, so they're like the webs on Spidey's armpits?

Um, I am not exactly sure what you mean... but take a look at this pic: See that strip that runs along the back? That is the action pleat.

Oh, and there are 2 of 'em.... one of them in the circle I made, and one on the other end of the back side, but you can't really see that one too well in my pic.

What about the THX Optimizer? Besides, on the site, dark brown looks too black to be dark brown, so I just want to be sure

For what I hear, the dark brown is very close to being black, so close that depending on the lighting it can be unmistakenly brown, or black.

The dark brown color from both Wested and G&B might appear almost black indoors, but so did Indy's jacket when it wasn't being lit by studio lights. I have a dark brown G&B, and have also owned two dark brown Westeds, so I can tell you that they definitely do not appear almost black outdoors or under normal lighting.
There are so many variables involved in what yields the color you see on screen, that you just have to choose what you like best. That's the only way to be happy with it.

Yup, the dark brown looks darker in pics than in person -- where it looks like a very dark brown. The seal brown is more of a "milk chocolate" color. Personally, I like the dark brown better...

Thanks! Now I know the Dark Brown is the only way to go! (G&B should seriously Photoshop those product images, though)
