Nicole Kidman to star in The Eighth Wonder as 'female Indiana Jones' Nicole Kidman is to play the female answer to Indiana Jones in a new Hollywood blockbuster. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/2976713/Nicole-Kidman-to-star-in-The-Eighth-Wonder-as-female-Indiana-Jones.htmlThe Australian actress will star in and produce The Eighth Wonder, a big budget action-adventure.
The movie "will be to Raiders of the Lost Ark what the Bourne movies are to James Bond", according to its makers.
As with the Indy films, the plot revolves around an archaeological discovery which sparks a race across the globe.
Kidman, 41, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in 2002 drama The Hours, is not an obvious choice for an action heroine.
She was recently named as Hollywood's least bankable star by Forbes magazine, which found that her films give studio bosses the worst return on their investment at the box office.
Her 2007 flop, The Invasion, a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, lost $2.68 for every dollar paid to Kidman, who picked up a reported $17 million for the role.
The actress, who recently gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose, will next be seen in Baz Luhrman epic Australia.
Few women have struck box office gold in leading action roles - Angelina Jolie as Tomb Raider's Lara Croft is a notable exception, along with Sigourney Weaver from the Alien films.
The screenwriter behind The Eighth Wonder is Simon Kinberg, whose previous cerdits include Mr and Mrs Smith and X-Men: The Last Stand.Ken

What the heck does that mean? Kidman seems like an odd choice for such a movie given her age and lack of box office performance.
