Sony Moving Forward with New Ghostbusters! www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=48564Columbia Pictures has set "The Office" co-executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a "Ghostbusters" film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.
Eisenberg and Stupnitsky just wrote The Year One, a comedy that was directed by Ramis. Ramis with Aykroyd wrote the first two installments of the films. Ivan Reitman directed both the 1984 original and the sequel that was released in 1989.
Ghostbusters was Columbia's highest grossing film ever, until it was beaten by Men in Black and then Spider-Man. An attempt to make a third installment of the franchise was stymied in the dealmaking stage.
No deals will be made with the original cast until the script is ready.Ken

I don't know about this one. Bill Murray is still funny but I don't even know if he'd go for this now. I'd like to see a new version of Ghostbusters that maybe had a bit more of a horror/comedy edge, funny but less silly and actually scary in the right places. Maybe they'll spoof some of these ghost hunting shows that are on tv now.

Aykroyd has Always been in favor of a Third Film, as has Harold Ramis. Aykroyd's biggest thing has been " I don`t want to be the one that writes it" Havana Had it right, the " Murricane" as he is called By Ghostbusters fans, has always been a Problem, If not THE problem with a third ghostbusters installment. i think if they Approach Bill with a new, different script, he`ll jump on it. I have to agree with havana Again, A Good mix of Horror and Comedy would be Refreshing these days

Harold Ramis on Ghostbusters 3www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=48597Last week, it was announced that "The Office" co-executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were hired by Columbia Pictures to write a script for Ghostbusters 3, but the question remained whether Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson will be back.
Chicago Tribune's Pop Machine received an e-mail from Ramis explaining the situation:
"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my [Year One] writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing [Year One] and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.Ken

Please, please please, don't let this get out of control.I have been a fan of the Ghostbusters since the movie came out when I was three. I am currently building a replica proton pack and the first screenplay I ever wrote was a Ghostbusters fanfilm (which gained some notariaty from an internet movie news site). Ghostbusters, like Indy and Back to the Future, is part of my childhood; a very happy part that I'm not willing to subjugate to rumors based on off-haded. I'm a member of the message boards at www.gbfans.com and the site is going crazy, people are fighting and friends I've had for almost three years are starting to grate on my nerves. Right now, this is all just rumor and media speculation...and until there is an official statement from Sony everything should considered with a grain of salt.

I was a big GB fan growing up as well, and I wouldn't mind seeing a 3rd movie with the original cast, so long as it's done tastefully. That's my take on THAT subject, anyways. Sounds a lot like what went down here after Indy 4 came out. It's always a shame when something that should bring fans together, like a new film, ends up driving them apart.

Well, hopefully they'll do a much better job on the 3rd Ghostbusters movie than was done on Indy 4. That way, everybody wins.

GCR, it is the fact that every one is throwing out speculations without any kind of confirmation. And without any official word from Sony, the moderators refuse to let their message boards get swamped with unsubstantiated rumors. They are really trying to keep everyone cool, but some of the biggest problems are coming from fans who are fighting over what the best coarse of action would be regarding the specifics of the movie. Should it be a reboot? What should the plot be? And so on.
So I guess it isn't exactly a MAIN issue but a pyramid of issues where each problem is a result of another problem, which is supported by a base of nerdy fans suffering from over-testosteronization. The cap stone of which is all of the news sites that keep reporting this same story over and over.
Who you gonna call? How about an anger management counselor?

some of the biggest problems are coming from fans who are fighting over what the best coarse of action would be regarding the specifics of the movie. Should it be a reboot? What should the plot be? And so on. Again, I see shades of the debates that raged around the Indy community prior to Indy 4. I can't blame people for getting riled up about something they have a passion for, but to get riled up over something that is essentially just a pile of rumors seems unnecessary to me. Obviously everyone who is a GB fan wants this movie to be the best movie it can be, but not everyone will agree on what direction to take. Until there's some kind of official word, why argue about it? Granted there were plenty of debates around the Indy community about the whole Alien angle in Indy 4, but most of that happened after the production began to drop some serious hints and shooting was well underway. It seems GB3 isn't anywhere near that far along, so why worry? Just my opinion, and of course not directed at you specifically, Nick, but instead towards those folks who take things way too seriously and get all worked up over nothing. I have yet to see the fun in that.

Funny you should say that. This is the last part of a post I left:
"There's nothing we can do about this but wait for an official statement from somebody. But until then, I'll be sitting back in the cool evening breeze, with a chilled beverage, smelling the fresh-cut lawns of my neighborhood and watching the kids ride their bikes in their childhood fearlessness...and I won't let this bother me. Won't you join me?"

Talking to City of Ember Mayor Bill Murray (Ghostbusters 3)www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=49375Q: You play a hero in "Ghostbusters" and a villain in this movie. Is it more fun playing a good guy or a bad guy? And what persuaded you to go back for the rumored "Ghostbusters 3"?
Murray: Well, you're way ahead of me, but that's okay. There's someone trying to write a script for another "Ghostbusters" movie. There's two fellows from "The Office" that are writing a script, but I have yet to see it. And I'm more involved with, you know, trying to get the dessert we order at lunch than I am with the new "Ghostbusters" sequel. (Laughter) But it's possible. It's a great idea that they hired these two guys to do it, 'cause I think it could be a fresh look at it. And it could be funny. We did a sequel and it was rather unsatisfying for me, because the first one to me was 'the goods.' It was the real thing, and the sequel, you know, it was a few years later, and there was an idea pitched. They got us all together in a room. We just laughed for a couple of hours, and then they said, "What if we did another one? Here's an idea these guys have got." So they had this idea, but it didn't turn out to be the idea when I arrived on the set. They'd written a whole different movie. And the special effects guys got their hands on it, and it was just not the same movie. There were a few great scenes in it, but it wasn't the same movie. So there's never been an interest in a third "Ghostbusters" 'cause the second one was kind of disappointing, for me, anyway. But the third one could happen.
But you asked me a question about bein' a bad guy and a good guy. It's so much easier to be a bad guy. It's a piece a cake. It's a joke. (Laughter) And, you know, I keep saying, "Why do they give Oscars to guys that play bad guys," 'cause it's so simple. Play a good guy some time. That's hard. Play a really, decent good person. That's hard.
Q: So would you go back for "Ghostbusters" again?
Murray: Only if I could play an evil person. (Laughter) No, it's mostly all about the script. I don't have any obligation to the franchise or anyone. If the script were good and I thought we could do it, it'd be fun. But, you know, it's only now that this has ever been a prospect. No one's ever talked about it for a long time, 'cause the second one was the way it was. This is just kind of a clever idea. I think they see that, and the fact that every interview today has asked me about the "Ghostbusters" movie--every single person--means that there is some interest for it. You think you're talking about the "City of Ember," but I've answered as many questions about the "Ghostbusters" as I have about… well, not as many, but, I mean, on every single one. So there's interest in it. Ken

I agree with Bill and my heart really goes out to him. They shouldn't do one just to do it. There should be a solid story to at least match the feel of the original. Rushing into this could really hurt the fans and the franchise...kind of like what some of us are dealing with here.
I think people just need to calm down and let things happen without taking too many liberties and reading too deep into things. Rumors pretty much destroy movies now-a-days before they are even released.

Ghostbusters 3 Starts Filming in the Fall?www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=53141Dan Aykroyd participated in a chat with The Boston Globe in celebration of a new House of Blues opening and was asked by someone about the status of Ghostbusters 3. Here's the opening bit from the chat:
[Comment From Tom] Dan, I'm extremely excited for the HOB to be back in its birth-city!! I will be attending many shows. On a side note, and I'm sure you get these questions a lot, so I apologize in advance...Ghostbusters 3? I've heard that the writers of the Office are currently penning a script? How is this coming along, and should we look forward to this movie seeing the light of day? Thanks Dan!
Dan Aykroyd: Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009.
It was announced last September that "The Office" co-executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were going to write the script for the third film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. It was reported then that the concept is that the old Ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.Ken

this has been in the works for more than ten years now, i heard about the "new york in hell" idea for a CGI movie at least 8 years ago, and they still mention the same ideas in these new interviews, along with the plan of the original team passing on the proton pack batons to a new generation of cast members
if you cant wait that long there is always the Ghostbusters lasertag LRP game being run at Dropzone ( i think they still do it )

Dan Aykroyd Talks More Ghostbusters 3www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=55799The Guardian interviewed Dan Aykroyd, who talked a bit more about Ghostbusters 3, which is in development at Columbia Pictures. Here's an excerpt:
And now for the supernatural bit: after coming together for the game, all the players have stated their intentions to go back, and a script is being written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, writers on the US Office. According to reports the original cast will act as mentors, handing the company over to a new generation, likely to be from the Seth Rogen and Steve Carell class of actors who are filling up just the same space in Hollywood as Aykroyd and Murray once did. "There'll be a whole new generation that has to be trained and a leader that you'll all love when you meet her," says Aykroyd. "There'll be lots of cadets, boys and girls who'll be learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension."Full interview: www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/may/23/ghostbusters-videogame-dan-aykroydKen

Dan Aykroyd Drops Signficant Ghostbusters 3 Detailswww.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=81518After years of rumors, it appears that Ghostbuster 3 is finally moving forward and will likely do so with or without Bill Murray's involvement. Dan Aykroyd appeared on The Dennis Miller Show to discuss the project, dropping specific details about the sequel, hinting that the plan is to film in Spring of 2012 no matter what happens casting-wise.
"Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray," he says, "That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that 'Ghostbusters' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of 'Ghostbusters 3' is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."
The comedian also confirmed reports that the plot will revolve around a new generation of Ghostbusters and hinted at the states of his and Ramis' characters.
"My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac," he says, "He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation." As for who might be cast as the new characters, Aykroyd says that, while no decision has been made, he does have a fondness for one piece of prospective casting.
"I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the 'Criminal Minds' show," he adds, "But there's going to be a casting. We're going to see everyone that wants to do it. We're going to need... three guys and a young woman."Just passing along more info for the GB fans here. Ken
