Ok, having some fun with this jacket. There's a whole blue or brown controversy going on with this one! In some shots it looks brown, and in others blue. I still think it's blue. Either way as it comes you still have to adjust the colour a little before starting on the mods. EG: It can come in a couple of colours, a fairly bright olive green or a sage green. After a bit of ebaying I ended up with one of each so went ahead with a bit of experimentation. This is the first time I'd dyed anything since I was a teen so tried to do everything by the book this time and started with the colour stipper... Don't, the colour in these jackets is prettymuch gonna stay, all the colour stripper did was turn one of the jacket's nice brown liner into a horrible muddy orange. Just wash the jaket and dye it the colour you want. So here's what the 2 jackets looked as recieved: And after dyeing: I think the blue may be a little dark, but I can live with that!

I agree, that's a very nice shade of blue, and a mighty fine movie to have a jacket from... Ken

That jacket rules!!!! My favorite non-Indy jacket is by Eddie Bauer with Nostromo patches on both shoulders (sewn on by my mom in 2005).

Thanks guys! I hope this jacket is as warm as it's supposed to be, if so I'll be able to wear it in the winter when it's too cold for leather! (It's surprising as it doesn't feel that warm). Mr Fusion, I have a A2 that I 'might' just convert into a Parker's Nostromo too . Have hit a slight snag with the lettering on the back of the RAF. Heat transfer paper for light fabrics (ie clear backing) does not show up on the blue. I need to use heat transfer paper with a white backing so it shows up... soooo I have to cut out each letter by hand . Luckily, I'm a 10th Dan scalpel user!

I guess that's better than having a nickname like " Tommy No-Thumbs", in a situation like this. Ken

Ok update: So, I got to experimenting with inkjet transfer film on the 'tail'. The stuff you use for white t-shirts obviously won't work, but the stuff for dark cotton works a treat. You have to cut very carefully around the letters so this is going to be HARD. When I do the back of the jacket I'm going to put a newspaper between the lining and the back so the honeycomb texture doesn't show through. Anyway quick pic.

Hello Knight Templar, Some info for you, these RAF Jackets were available in brown at one time 1950's , -1960's? I have one. Its a perculiar colour though, Its a kind of greyish brown with a hint of dusty pink ( sounds like a wine) its funny my wife said it was blue like you, I think it tricks the eye in different light with degrees of colour blindness that people have, even myself i can see it differently some days. Anyway I'll get some photos with a good camera so you can get the colour. I got the bug for this jacket aswell a few years ago, i was planning getting them made but its too expensive, maybe the patches and gold wings

John,
Some folk have cosplayed Alien with one of those plush facehuggers, actually quite fun!
Oracle: That's interesting info, I've vacillated between the brown and the blue idea. Probably more towards the brown now! Plus the prototypes were bleached to white so what do we know!
BTW was Tiny Nicholls the designer on this if he's still around maybe he can be asked.....

Kt Templar, Tiny Nicholls was a female, I think she was elderly then in 1978!so...?.....?...... . I think though the jacket I have is the one, its much lighter and the labels are old fashioned, the buttons are dark brown/black ,the velcro is the same as the c photos of Dallas, the collar is neater and the zip edging is a lovely greyish blue. Who told you they were bleached? Thats thrown me off course I'll get the photos ASAP so you can have a look.

Those sneaky non gender specific names!! I'd imagined it was a nickname for a large gentleman!
I did a search on IMDB and have found references as recent as 2000 for films she'd worked on.
I've seem photos of prototpe jackets that were definitely bleached right back to white, they had that yellowish tinge you get when you do that with predyed fabric.

Knight Templar, Yeah, thats funny good one. She was mentioned on the making of Alien. i just noticed something about this jacket, the velcro band width and colour is identical to Tom Skerritt's. I have three other sage jackets but the band width is narrower , there's also different tucks, pleats etc... . Incidently do you have an interest in the Knights Templar? or Poor Soliders of + Christ +

How do you post photos?

You have to upload your images to one of the free image hosting websites like Photobucket or Imageshack. Once you do that, you'll have links to the images you can post in the thread here (or any other community). After you copy & paste the link to an image you want to share, highlight it in the textbox before you post it, and click the "Insert Image" tool located above the textbox. (It's the 4th one from the left, on the bottom row). So your images will fit in most people's browser size, try to keep them no wider than 700 pixels. A little wider is fine for most people, but would really mess up things for many folks. Ken

Incidently do you have an interest in the Knights Templar? or Poor Soliders of + Christ + I'm not a member of the craft , It was more a convoluted reference to the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword which of course was the organisation in the Last Crusade. I was going to use Sm. Templar or St. Templar but went with Kt. I'm not sure how many people knew it was short for 'Knight.'
